You know you're on a Transformers forum, right? In any case, it's probably because Transformers is the more profitable of the two, that's why Hasbro gives it more attention.
From what i understand, the G.I. Joe toys pretty much bombed at the stores. I remember them being put on clearance pretty quick too.
I really hope this movie is good. G.I. Joe has sooo much potential. Maybe even more than TF.
Honestly, I never saw that many movie toys for GI Joe, even when the movie came out. There just wasn't that much to do...
As for comparing GI Joe to Transformers, it is an intersting comparison. The main difference is that, while GIJoe cartoons and comics largely disappeared from the late 80's until GIJoe Resolute and the new GIJoe Renegades show, Transformers revived in the early 90's with Beast Wars and really has not stopped to take a breath since then. THe general assumption then could be that the TF mythos is much deeper and more vast...but it is inevitable to draw the parallels. If you look at it, really the only toy line that compares as far as the vastness of its universe is Star Wars.
