I believe he is wanting to know what was added into the IDW 1986 Movie Adaptation that was not in the Animated Movie.

That was my view. While it doesn't really specify for how long they drifted through space, they were alive aboard Astrotrain and so I always assumed (I know what they say about that!) that they hadn't died while floating.
