They also had the "USS Flagg" playset, which I recognised from this thread.

The Goldbergs Tackle The Death Of Optimus Prime On This Week's Episode

Postby Autobot032 » Fri Jan 16, 2015 7:31 am

Weapon: Switch Blade Tail
ABC's The Goldbergs is a love letter to show creator Adam F. Goldberg's childhood in the '80s and the decade itself. Because of Mr. Goldberg's love affair with the '80s and everything contained therein, our beloved Transformers have made a few appearances on the show and have even been a major part of the plot lines.

This week's episode just so happens to be one of those episodes and tackles the touchy subject of worrying about life and death, from a child's point of view. What better time to go see Transformers: The Movie?!

After watching the film with his best friend and hero, his grandfather Albert, Adam decides to film his own sequel to Transformers: The Movie and it's in this portion of the show that we really see just how much the thought of death impacts a child, and brings a poignancy to the episode. Also, it totally covers the death of Optimus Prime and speaks for an entire generation of kids (who are now adults) who sat there crying inside and out.

You can see the full episode over at ABC.com (if you have one of the cable systems they support) and here at Hulu.com

Fellow Seibertronian Cyberpath pointed us in the direction of this week's episode and provided access to these images, which we've mirrored below.

Just FYI, the grandfather's name is Albert, better known as Pops. Murray is his father.

I will have to check out this episode. I remember as a kid saying the equivalent of WTF is this, they can't be dead. This was my first real brush with death and coping with seeing characters I love die.... :-(

I'm more interested in how the real Adam Goldberg got a short stack Prime for his "vintage" home movie at the end, when he's rolling past Fort Max.

i must be the only child of the 80s who wasnt effected by the deaths in the movie, dont know if it was because the reruns were on tv or the toys were still on shelves but i never saw what the big deal was. Now that im an adult i do but back then it just gave me an excuse to get more transformers. But anyway if the kid is so upset why doesnt he just go back in time & stop it? He obviously has a time machine cause hes playing with a reissue prime from the future.

I think this is hilarious, and I will certainly be watching. One nitpick though...WRONG AUTOBOT SYMBOLS on the cardboard Optimus! Those are Bay-verse Autobot Shields. UGH. :BOT:

Same way his older brother played the 2007 rerecorded version of Stan Bush's "The Touch" back in season 1. :P

FWIW, the official time setting of this show is "the year 1980-something"

Haha, they just aired the rerun again tonight. Dude I was this kid yo..LOL :lol: ! minus the brother and sister. =;
But I used to re-enact every scene from every episode in my room and the living room and the kitchen and outside...LOL! Set up all transformers up and make all the sound effects and voices. Crazy!. #-o :APPLAUSE: :BANG_HEAD:
Ive always loved this show ever since it came out because it was all about the 80's and I could always tell the transformers references too.
This episode was great though.
The only one inconsistency they mentioned in the show was that Transformers and G.I. Joe came on Saturday mornings and they did not in-fact. They were at the time called "after school cartoons". Everyday at 3 or 4 in the afternoon we'd have rock-blocks of cartoons and Transformers and G.I. Joe were among them. Remember cartoons were not aired 24/7 on 10 different channels like they are today.
I remember clearly hurrying to get home for new episodes everyday after school. They may have aired reruns on the weekends in various regions back in the day and I know they aired reruns all through the summertime for sure but the new episodes aired weekdays after school. I know...I was 6yrs going on 7rs old during G1 season 1.
And yes the '86 movie left me an emotional wreck in my seat at the movie theater too just like that kid. LOL
Transformers was my first love back then too. :CON: :BOT:
