Generations Fall of Cybertron: the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Now that I finally received my order from the BBTS (no custom fees, yay!) I could try my hands at the FOC figures.

I have Optimus Prime, Jazz, Shockwave, and the G2 color Bruticus.
So, here's the general pros and cons so far:

LOVE IT:
-- The vehicles modes are very nice looking and full of details and so are the robot modes.
-- Transforming them is very easy and dont really require any instructions.

HATE IT:
-- For deluxe figures, they are very small. Even smaller than DOTM. What more, they dont have any fancy Mechtech weapons to compensate.
-- Many figures are very hollow and the plastic feel very cheap.

I really love Optimus, Jazz, and especially Shockwave. They are very fun and perfect looking. Even Jazz with his vizible hole in his chest from the top. Unfortunately, I think I ham-handed Shockwave and gave one of his shoulder joint a nasty stress-mark.

As for Bruticus, I'm kinda disapointed. Sure, you buy him for his awesome combined mode, but the individual bots suck ass, excepet for Swindle and Vortex. The weakest member of the team is unfortunately Onslaught with his peek-a-boo vehicle mode and his lame robot mode with derpy arms. The vehicles themselves, save for Swindle and Vortex are very weak looking too. The G2 colors are not as bad looking as I first thought fortunately. I love the fact that the packaging is in G2 style and the bots have :G2CON: symbols on them. Still, a little more paint aps wouldnt have hurt. Fortunately, the combined Bruticus is well worth the 60$ I paid for. Now, if I would have bought that SDCC Bruticus at scalper price, I would have some serious buyer remorse.

I'm looking forward to get starscream and especially Grimlock!

So, your thoughts so far on the FOC toyline?

I actually prefer FOC Prime over WFC Prime. Yeh, he might be smaller, but his vehicle mode is more dynamic, and hs robot mode looks a lot more mobile and dangerous.

Only got Shockwave for my classics set and he is rather nice, if a little small. Don't like the look of the others, especially Bruticus, so haven't bought any of them and can't comment.

Seeing the Soundwave mold in person, I'm thinking all
is not lost at Hasbro, not yet anyway.

I think he's saying pile (or piece) of sssshhhhh........

I too only got shockwave because there wasn't one in my collection. I'm getting G2 Bruticus only because I love the color and packaging. The only other ones I'll be getting is Starscream (sucker for the seekers), Ultra Magnus (only for that 3rd party kit I saw to add on to him), and maybe Grimlock if I like seeing it in person.

So many Ebay sellers try to scalp the FOC G2 Bruticus set at over 90$ + outrageous shipping prices when it's still available on the BBTS at 60$ + reasonable shipping.

Edit: This was post #1111! Woohoo!

I got Shockwave and he's alright, and I'm getting G2 Bruticus (more for the novelty of a modern, 5-mold, kibble-free Scramble City combiner in wonderfully absurd G2 colors and packaging than anything else; my expectations for him are incredibly low), but other than that FoC just doesn't interest me. Granted I rarely buy Autobots or G1-inspired stuff, and Soundwave is totally out of scale with the other WfC/FoC stuff, but nothing is really up to the standards I like.

I've got SDCC Bruticus, retail Bruticus and all 3 of the released deluxes (Prime, Jazz and Shockwave) and I'm pretty happy with all of them. In fact, I liked retail Vortex so much that I bought an extra just to stand him in bot mode.

For the upcoming ones, I'm getting all of the deluxes (both Hasbro's and Takara's), including Takara's versions of the Combaticons and for the voyager Soundwave and Soundblaster, I'm getting Takara's and skipping Hasbro's.

I'm not sure which Grimlock I'll be getting yet or if I'll get both, I need to see the final paint schemes/details first.

I'm also getting Takara's AM Shockwave.

Jazz is wonderful as long as he's displayed in vehicle mode, I expect the same or better from Sideswipe.

I like 'em. Granted that I don't own anyhing beyond Optimus, Jazz and Shockwave. Shockwave actually rocks my socks.

I think all the hate over FOC Jazz is uncalled for. His vehicle mode is great looking his transformation is fun to do and he even have RATCHET JOINTS! Unless you are looking at him from above, his robot mode is great looking too.

So, what's the real beef?

I don't actually hate him at all, but I don't really like his bot mode, but that's only because of the size of his torso/chest, not because of the hole. It just looks weird and disproportionate to me. If it were smaller, I'd like it much better (the chest, not the entire figure, the figure is plenty small :P).

SPO Jazz IS a badass. From that bodyguard expression to those over the shoulder speakers... No competition.

Besides him being RTS Jazz's poorer Cybertronian cousin, FOC Jazz is also a victim of a horrible lack of paint apps. He's covered in detail, but the bright white plastic obscures it all. He looks worlds better after being given a panel-line wash, some drybrushing on his inner engine workings, and paint apps for his tail lights and energon lines.

Sizewise, and although this was never Hasbro's intention, he scales well with the larger WFC figs (except Arnold Schwarzenbee, of course) because he's supposed to be a medium to smallish character.

As for my thoughts on the FOC line, it's a mixed bag.

My okay list for FOC is: Starscream (naturally), Shockwave, Jazz, Grimlock, Soundwave and Kickback.

Meh list: OP, FnR, Air Raid/Fireflight, UM.

Sh!tlist: Combaticon set, Ravage.

No way. Grimlock is going to be sweet!!!

I have a opinion about the small sizes....yeah it is probably a cost thing. But I think it is also to separate it from regular classics. Hasbro doesn't want you to throw a FOC Shockwave into your classics lineup...they want you to buy the proper larger classics G1 Shockwave a couple years down the road. They want to keep you wanting more! And as a result you buy both.

...that is also why I feel we haven't gotten certain characters/toys yet, like a proper widespread release of a g1 classics Soundwave...to keep you wanting more and keep you interested.
