Weapon: Twin Independent Mounted Disruptor Rays
I saw the film. If your curious read at your own discretion.
This post will contain SPOILERS!!

SPOILERS--SPOILERS--SPOILERS--SPOILERS--SPOILERS

My grade: B
So what are some things in this film one might like, I'll share mine:
  • I liked how they explained why the devil looks different. Ciran Hands vs Peter Fonda.
  • I liked the nods to acknowledging his stunt rider days and I don't mean the storyboards. The bonding moments with Danny on the highway doing bike stunts.
  • Incorporating the Zarathos element inherent with the comic version. And that explanation sequence between Blaze and Moreau was nicely done.
  • The use of Negative Space and filming in a Negative manner worked well in several scenes. Such as the purging of the Rider scene and "Decay vision".
  • Glad the "pissing scene" was only an in-joke visual for Johnny and Danny and not an actual moment in the film.
  • Tying into the first film again, how the Rider fears and/or is powerless in the light AND how events in the film change that.
  • How we see the Rider as a hero, controlled by Blaze in that final sequence. Not just a force of nature.

So, in fairness what could've been better, my thoughts on that:
  • I know they spent less money but I missed the full on Penance Stare. It's done but without the f/x, more implied then *poof* dead bad guy.
  • The transitions between major set pieces could've been more fluid. A few too many Hard Cuts.
  • Nadya, Danny's mom, is suddenly a good shot with a military grade sniper rifle from 500yrds? Some 30 second bs explanation earlier in the film might've sold this better. The best backstory we get is she a bit of a gypsy.
  • Personally I would've liked more dialogue from the Rider. Like the Hulk films I feel they've missed this twice now. Neither character is that silent in their own book.

The few location cinematography shots we got were great. Liked seeing the Monks chiseled out monastic hideout.
The castle was very nice.
The amphitheater ruins for the ritual were cool.
Nice cameos by Anthony Stewart Head(Giles of BtVS) and Christopher Lambert.
Idris Elba did a very servicable job as well. Not Heimdell awesome but still a respectable performance. Cage was a much, much better Johnny Blaze this time imo.
Some nice humor although I can see where for some a few moments might be over the top(Jerry Springer's 1/2 second cameo perhaps).
The twinkie scene got several laughs at my viewing.

It's a fun movie, cut loose and enjoy the film. Oscar bait it's not but in all objectiveness there are worse films, worse comic films out there than this. Don't allow yourself to get caught up in the seemingly current "Hip to bash Cage and/or Ghost Rider" bandwagon this month. You'll miss a fun time at the theater and be forced to sit through The Vow.

**SPOILERS**

I saw it too. I was disappointed. I won't go into much detail, but the main things that bothered me were that the camera was too damn shaky at times, it was WAY TOO LOUD, and there wasn't nearly enough action. The ending chase scene was great, there should have been more like that throughout the film. The story overall wasn't smooth. Directors' fault.

I thought Ciaran Hinds was good as the Devil, probably better than Peter Fonda, only because he had more screen time. And he looked the part more. In my theater, I was the only one who chuckled at the Twinkie scene. Maybe nobody else got it. I did enjoy Jerry Springer as well. It is actually a somewhat fitting explanation. I didn't read ANY info on the film beforehand, so it was a total pleasant surprise to see Christopher Lambert. Even if he was a dick.

Overall, I give it 2/5. Disappoint.

Alot of love, but also, alot of dissapoint.
I Liked alot of it, and the Twinkie part made me laugh my ass off!
Alot of was outstanding, but alot of it seemed REALLY rushed, and in the end, I was confused in the "WTF Just happened?" Kinda way. Like when the kid was suddenly able to know how to use all the devil's powers. Alot of the BS Stuff was mentioned above. Another WTF moment was the part were they hit him with the flashbang. I Laughed, but it didn't make sense. It almost seemed like they wanted the rider to seem less a warrior of vengeance, and more a mischievous impish trouble-maker with demonic powers. I wish more effects (like the stare and the vehicle full-body mutation) would have been used. Still. It was fun to be in a "Crazy Cage Flick" again. Making him act like he did in face off just. worked.

This was more like a "Weird Cage Flick." I just watched my Blu-Ray of Drive Angry again, and THAT is a fun Nic Cage movie! Plus, Amber Heard! =P~

Saw it today. Overall, a mixed bag. Some random thoughts:

The Good:

-I was surprised to see Christopher Lambert. He didn't do much no and after seeing him the "sacrafice" was no surprise. After all, can you really trust a guy with heiroglyph's all over his face?

-The Twinkie scene is awesome. It just works so well.

-Speaking of awesome, Ghost Rider commondeering that earth digger(Cybertron Metroplex). That was cool.

-Ghost Rider's overall look and CG was well done.

-Blackout was slightly underutalized, but he got decent motivation and characterization, and his powers, while I'm not sure are comic accurate, were cool enough. Though how could he hold onto Johnny without decaying him before he got his Rider powers back?

-I liked Nick Cage a lot more as a tortured Johnny. Despite seeminlgy spending less time setting up the character, I thought he was more likable than in the first one.

-Mereua was cool. Not sure if he was from the comics, but I liked him.

Now for the not so great stuff:

-The film didn't seem as big or driving as in the first one. At the core the story was better and less cliche', but there seemed to be fewer set pieces or musically intense. I don't know, but it didn't grab me as much as the first one.

-The first fight scene with Ghost Rider was odd and kinda bad. Ok Ghost Rider eats souls, but why did he move so weird and hold onto that one guy so long? He didn't have to wait until innocent blood as spilled to penance stare did he, because he had no trouble frying a couple other guys.

-Agreed on Ghost Rider talking more. However, he got in a couple good one liners.

-The humor(save for the Twinkie) I thought was mostly blah, and the peeing fire is still stupid. Ghost Rider is not a super happy character and is meant to be dark and gritty, so quit trying to make him appeal to everyone. Still, it was grittier than the first one.

Ghost Rider is crazy in this film, he was supposed to seem an act random and insane, attacking his victims not just fiscally but also mentally.

I loved it, the only thing I would change would be a better super powered villain and more Ghost Rider scenes.

Yeah I guess that makes senese. I haven't read too much Ghost Rider, mainly Essential Collection Vol. 2 I picked up from the Flea Market last year. I suppose old Ghostie is a bit of a vandal, and enjoyed tormenting his foes. Maybe when I see it again on DVD someday I'll pick out some of the nuances in his character I missed the first time out. He did seem a little underpowered in the opening fight, but I guess getting hit by a few grenade rounds'll knock anyone sensless.

Oh, and I feel dumb. I didn't realize the kid was Dan Ketch, as I found out in review I saw from on of my subcriptions on Youtube. The reviewer also said they cut a sword fighting scene with Christophter Lambert. His presence in the film makes more sense now.

Last thing, the Blue Ghost Rider. Is it a thing in the comics now? I know the new Marvel Legends is blue, so maybe it is.

I believe the blue Rider is a thing in the comics, I've seen a few covers and pics with it, but haven't gotten around to reading them, the book was cancelled over here just after they revealed he was an Angel. The current Ghost Rider is a woman though I believe.

Thing with the grenades though, in the next fight they hit him with rockets which I believe are more powerful than grenades, so it looks like a bit of a continuity error.

It's also pretty difficult to really nail the Ghost Rider character, almost every writer writes him differently, I#ve read stories in which he's a mute, a simpleton with a heart of gold, an emo, a crazy guy and a violent blood thirsty ass hole.
