This movie was really good and fun to watch. To be honest, there wasn't enough Godzilla in this Godzilla movie, first battle with Male MUTO should be longer and with more focus on two monsters. But in the end, it was Godzilla, and it was epic action movie, without problem of beign boring or trivial.

I just watched the movie.

That moment when he shot his atomic breath at the female MUTO's mouth. Damn, that was badass.

Yeah, I would love a sequel with moar Godzilla action. Though the build-up was great, it was kinda like watching Jaws again. I enjoyed the human story a bit more then most people due the fact I read the Godzilla: Awakening comic.

For me, the best scene wasn't the the ending fight, actually..for me it was that moment when Godzilla stepped in front of the airport and roared, I literally squealed at that moment . I just wish they shown the full fight...

And Godzilla's pretty big in this one, massive actually. He must have took King Kong's advice...

Image

When this comes out in DVD, I will be watching the hell out of it.

I wonder what monster will be in the next, provided they use any that are from the Toho vaults. My Idea is that they'd use Mogera or Mechagodzilla for the sequel, a monster to fight monster if you will. However that'd be to soon considering pacific rim.

Isn't Pacific Rim vs Godzilla series a good thing? Both movies were great, and battle between two series of monster movies should be good for the genre overall...

So far, movies about Kajiu are in truely renaissance phase. And fight between Classic vs New could be a great opportunity for it.

I finally got to see it, and...it was a major letdown. Maybe because I hyped myself up for it a bit too much. But there was definitely not enough Godzilla in a movie named after him. The other monsters were in it more than he was. And we never even saw a shot of him fully until about 5 minutes left, when he went back into the water. Until then it was a foot here, a tail there, a few head shots. What a waste of time. The 1998 version had a shitty-looking Godzilla, but at least he was on screen for more than 10 minutes total, and he was tearing **** up. I understand the difference in characterization, this Godzilla was protecting people, so he wasn't bent on destroying cities. That's fine. But even the fight scenes with the other monsters weren't really scenes, more like snapshots and clips. Every time I'd get pumped for a giant monster smackdown, the movie cuts away to the soldiers sitting around. It was frustrating. Overall, I was disappointed. Even the story was only mediocre. Hopefully the sequel will actually have the big guy in it for a decent amount of time. It was a shame, too, he looked really good for the few minutes he was on screen. Now I'm gonna watch Pacific Rim again to get my giant monster fix.

This is where I avoided disappointment. I knew there was a chance that Godzilla may have limited screen time being the first movie in what could potentially become a river of sequels. So I took the time to research and find out, and I was able to find an interview with Gareth that this movie was made for the build up, and the reveal wasn't till later in the movie.

But overall, I agree that he definitely should have been in it more. I did find myself enjoying the movie a lot despite Godzilla not being seen as much as I'd like.

Really, the Godzilla scenes were pure gold and a monster movie at it's finest. I wasn't as disappointing because I knew this was going to be like Jaws, lots of build-up.

Actually, the first thing I read about the movie was "Don't expect a Pacific Rim". Rodimus expected Pacific Rim, ah well...too bad.

Here is something relevant since a sequel was confirmed after the $100 million opening Godzilla had this weekend: Gareth Edwards said that if they are ever going to make a sequel, it will follow the same basic formula as this movie, with lots of build-up before Godzilla starts destroying stuff.
Plus, I found Godzilla french kissing the female MUTO worth the ticket price alone.

I didn't expect Pacific Rim. This movie could never be Pacific Rim. I was even OK with the build up part. But once Godzilla actually showed up after swimming across the Pacific Ocean, I was looking for a little more action besides a couple of shrieks and flybys. It was great to see him use his radioactive breath, it was used creatively. But there weren't enough moments like that to pay off the build up. If this was something we've never seen before, it would have been OK. But everyone already knows about Godzilla. It's not like they were revealing something for the first time ever. So definitely a hugely wasted opportunity to take the character up a notch, which, given his monstrous size compared to previous incarnations, is what he was ready for. Too bad indeed.

Let us hope that the sequel will have much, much more Godzilla action.

This movie reminded me of the first TF movie. And it pissed me off. Every time you think something cool is about to happen, they cut to some stupid generic human characters no one gives a damn about. At least the humans in Transformers had at least a bit of character. Everyone in this new Godzilla was bland as hell. I didn't even know the main character's name. It wouldn't have bothered me so much if the main guy wasn't some generic military dude, who, for some reason, was the only one in the world who could disarm a bomb. The creatures fed off nuclear energy, anyway. So, why they'd try to blow them up with a nuke is beyond me. I still liked the movie more than Pacific Rim, for some reason, though. The fight scenes in that movie just weren't satisfying at all.

Welcome to the Godzilla franchise!

Ford Brody, but I'll chalk this one up to you just not paying attention since they said his name enough times.

Because he was the one who rigged it up. Nuclear weapons with clockwork detonation aren't exactly commonplace.

They fed off radiation. A nuclear explosion is a hell of a lot more than just radiation.

Yeah I believe they said in the movie that they were hoping that the blast would kill them, not the radiation, as they also stated that the device they were going to use would've been a more powerful than the Atomic weapons they used in the late 40's and 50's.

Yep, they specifically said it would make the nukes that were used to try and kill Godzilla look like firecrackers, measuring it in the megatons.

I actually thought the Godzilla screentime was good. He looked good, he did cool stuff, it was shot WONDERFULLY, the effects were awesome, the design of the MUTOs were great, even the human characters were decently developed, though I think it would have been more effective if Ford had died at the end. A worthy film for the return of the King, can't wait to see what else they bring to the table. Maybe now that it's proven a success they can get a few more Toho licences. I'd like to see King Ghidorah or Mothra show up soon.

Conflict Imminent. We now have Mothra, Rodan, and Gidorah confirmed. Guess Big G's gonna need some help against the three-headed Destroyer of Worlds.

http://www.superherohype.com/news/310587-comic-con-godzilla-sequel

Should be interesting to see how they handle the Godzilla and Mothra situation since they are more fr-enemies which is usually dependent on Godzilla's mood. I just hope she leaves the tiny ladies back on the island. They'll camp up the film. At the very Least, Mothra needs to die in the fight for obvious reasons. (she can come back)

Gidorah... seriously, this guy needs to pose a legitimate threat to Earth that Godzilla needs to team up with the other two. He needs to destroy at least a major city or two before Godzilla catches up to him.

I'd, personally, like to see them do a Mothra or Rodan movie before the sequel (They were the only original main Kaiju to get their own films besides Godzilla {Excluding Varan})

I'd love to see an honest to goodness badass Mothra. Something really BADASS! No more Rainbow Mothra!

I've heard rumors that the Rebirth of Mothra series might be getting a reboot. I don't know if this will tie in with her film appearance or even if its anything more than an unfounded rumor. Anyway I'm super pumped for the return of old faces in the second movie. It feels like Legendary and Toho were testing the waters with this one, seeing if the general public was ready for the return of the king, and since the film took off they decided to throw everything at their next installment.

Well, they had their own movies before appearing in the Godzilla series, their first Godzilla appearances where both versus crossovers.

I like this news, since both Mothra and Ghidorah are likely the two most expensive Toho licences besides Godzilla himself, since they're the most popular next to him. That shows that Legenary has a lot of faith in the franchise and the sequel itself.

As much as I would love to see Legendary's take on Mecha Godzilla, I think he would be a bit too silly a concept for what they're trying to do. Then again, they are introducing Mothra....

The one seijin I'd love to see is Gigan and Megalon. Now, they were originally two of the goofiest aliens to walk the Monster stage. But Gigan in Final War was fantastic, albeit easily killed, but really badass for a bit.
