One is a comic book hero, the other is a comic book villain.

I have to give this one to Hal. Hal doesn't actually use any metal, so he doesn't have anything for Magneto to manipulate.

Not that I know of. What I do know is that it's a semi-sentient alien material capable of making hard-light constructs out of the user's willpower and imagination.

TulioDude brings up a good point. What I can google about it, it made up of an unknown material. The only one we could speculate on is the outlier that is Alan Scott's ring, which was made (eventually) from a meteorite. Most meteorite are made of iron (there are exceptions); so Scott's ring is probably (but not guaranteed) has enough iron for Magneto to screw with.

You are right Shadowman, I was talking about Hal, but I left the original question slightly open-ended, just in case someone mentioned another Lantern that would be a better matchup. I am not a Lantern expert. All I could figure out Alan Scott does have a potential weakness, and probably is the wrong Lantern for the job. Here is the original question.

For all purposes, we should stick with Hal Jordan.
TulioDude, we got to assume the ring is not made of non-magnetic material for now, unless someone can prove otherwise. However, I think Magneto can even manipulate the iron in human blood, so is that a possible angle of attack for Magneto?

Has he ever even done that in the comics? I only know about him having done that in the movies, but that was only because Mystique had injected the guy with a lot of iron fillings beforehand.

Yeah.
http://www.magnetowasright.com/pages/about-magneto/feats-in-the-616.php
Apparently, Magneto seems to have the ability to mess with the rest of electromagnetic spectrum, including LIGHT. I also some comic book experts join in this one. I do not know the all of properties of Hard Light, and would Magneto be able to manipulate it. If so, this turns into a potential mismatch.

Manipulating non-metallic objects, such wood, stone, weapons grade ceramics, or plastics.

How much crack do you think a writer would have to be on to include that in the list of things Magneto can influence? It's just stupid how powerful they've made him, just for the sake of making him more powerful while at the same time being painfully ignorant of his actual power set.

I really, really hate comics sometimes...

Let's face it, writers do not understand the concept of magnetism.

(Although, a comic book hero who could manipulate the entire electromagnetic spectrum would be cool [I did imagine a TF from the distant future that could, but that is only in my imagination]}

I have a feeling that this battle might be unsolved.

I'm going with Hal for this one. Even assuming there's ample metal for magneto for manipulate, its not going to go well for him. Hal's got force fields, energy blasts, flight, and countless constructs to call on. Magnus's been beaten by the X-men, and on a power scale Hal's on par with the entire X-men team.

Magneto might be able to squeak out a win if he could keep the fight going long enough so that Hal's rin runs out, but that's a very big stretch.

There's only trace amounts of iron in human blood. It's why humans aren't ripped apart when in the presence of super magnets. (Such as what would be used in an MRI)

According to the American Red Cross, one pint of blood contains about 250 milligrams of iron. Since the average human has about 10 - 12 pints of blood total, and this accounts for half of the iron in the body, that comes out to between 5 and 6 grams of iron per adult human body. That's just enough iron to make a medium- sized nail

so what you say is true.............however, that does not account for the effects on a human body the sudden removal of all iron or just the fast manipulation of iron on a human body.

sto_vo_kor_2000 wrote:BTW, WHATS THE RING MADE OF?

Willpower, probably.
just did a little looking around, GL Power rings are said to be made of "Oaite," a compound found on Oa.
to me it sounds like a Oan metal.
and if so it might be something Maqgs can manipulate

I can judge this properly, especially considering Green Lantens current power rating. Magneto can be ruthless though. Im sure that sticky green substance could protect The Lantern from Magnetos abilities. At the same time the amount of metal and type of metal in the area would also be a factor... Im undecided.
