Because we're 10% of their profit. Transformers are aimed at kids before adults, remember that.

And despite popular belief, Hasbro doesn't owe us fans anything. How many of us have actually been collecting the toys, for all the 28 years the brand has been in existence?

Maybe you shouldn't assume you're aware of everything "kids" like. I've got 2 sons not to mention quite a few nephews and little cousins.

And forgive me if I'm not all that confident in your claims of us being only 10%. We might not be the majority but who's going to deny that we're the backbone.

Look Hasbro didn't become the biggest toy company in the world just by appealing to children. So regardless of how insignificant some collectors think we are I still have a right to my opinion.

I didn't see any children siting down during that panel discussion so based on your logic why were they there in the first place when the vast 90% of their consumers were somewhere else....?

Were they doing us a favor or is there some significance in attending these conventions?

Some of us actually like that. I expect kids will eat this right up, which is the goal.

Seriously though, I can understand the hate for the retools, but I love them, they look great. I'm seriously wondering how these would look in a more...Monster Hunter-y deco.

What exactly do you mean by this? The majority forms a backbone of a company's earnings, not the minority. Exact percentages aside, we're not the majority and thus we're not Hasbro's target audience. Although Universe Platinum is a step in the right direction.

Then again, I'm arguing with someone who calls Transformers Prime "Shrekformers" simply because they use CGI, so what do I expect?

I didn't say I knew everything kids like. But they don't make these toys just for adults. Classics, Masterpiece, Reissues, yeah, more than likely aimed at adult collectors. Why can't you swallow that Transformers are for kids first? There's a reason it says 5+ on the box.

And forgive me if I'm not all that confident in your claims of us being only 10%. We might not be the majority but who's going to deny that we're the backbone.

Yes, most adult fans are adult fans because they liked the show and toylines as a...what? Kid.

I'm not gonna deny that Hasbro targets the kids the most with their toy line. And, when it comes down to it, I'm not really mad at them for what they are doing because of just that. I do gripe about what I think sucks on what they are producing, but that's just my little opinion and sometimes I feel like venting about this so I won't get overly mad at my REAL problems or wind up killing a certain boss of mine  J/k (maybe).

But I do feel that we, the adult collectors, are more than just 10%. I'm thinking more like close to 20%, maybe 18%. And I do believe the number is growing. I've had people from work or other friends come over and be like "wow, that **** is awesome! Where did you get some of that? I haven't seen those in stores.I remember the G1 guys.", and wind up starting their own little collection.

I won't deny that we may be a majority of the fandom, but they [Hasbro] have said before that we're the minority of their profit.

I don't think he's denying that, but I do think that 10% is surely wrong. It's a made up number, at best. The fact that collectors buy so much at retail would increase that number notably if an accurate read could be taken.

Oh, I'm sure that the adult collector is still a minority compared to the vast number of kids here in the U.S. alone, not counting the rest of the world. Plus, I'm sure there were not as many kids between the ages of 6 to 12 during my time as there are now. I mean, the school I went to back in the day was a relatively small building back then. Now the school has moved to a new location and is three large buildings that just house 1st through 8th. Plus back then, we only had one 1st grade class. Now there are at least 3 classes that make up a grade. So, yeah, we are still odd man (and woman) out, but can we get a little more credit than just 10%?

it'd be very nice to get some of the currently comic-only characters some toys. the non-Pretender Metalhawk, Ambulon (legformers FTW!), psycho Whirl and some of the DJD would be very welcome.

Darkmount and Skullgrin happened. So did Bludgeon, he was just some creepy guy, and recently he (and his mold) have gotten quite a lot of love.

A Classics Skids is incredible overdue. Oh, and make his gun transform into a miniscooter that fits into his trunk, just for fanwank's sake.

Our friend and fellow Seibertronian, Soundwave9, was also in attendance at NYCC 2012's Hasbro Transformers panel this past Thursday. He recorded the entire panel on video which you can view on his YouTube account. Without further ado, here are the four videos for your viewing enjoyment.

Seibertron.com wrote:Panel guests included:

Hasbro Studios (Burbank, CA):
  • Mike Vogel - Vice President, development
  • Brian Lenard - Executive Director
  • Jeff Kline - Producer, Transformers Prime
  • Duane Capizzi - Producer, Transformers Prime

Hasbro (Providence, RI):
  • Jerry Jivoin - Director, global brand management
  • Andy Schmidt - Director, design & development
  • Clint Chapman - Global Brand Manageer, Transformers

Showed us a clip reel of Transformers Prime Season 2
Showed us a villians clip
and then showed us Shockwave introducing Predaking from Transformers Prime "Beast Hunters"
The Predacons are Cybertron's versions of Dinosaurs

Transformers Prime
Beast Hunters
Looks like new toys from the ground up, new head sculpts, new "helmets", accessories, etc

Legion Class
Bumblebee with Hawkbow
Smokescreen with Chain Bolter
Airachnid with Novastinger Bow
Twinstrike with Piston Hammer (looks like a Sinnertwin homage)

Commander Class
Bulkhead with Nova Hammer (in Roadbuster colors)
Predaking with Cybervenom Rocket

Cyberverse Vehicles
Sky Claw with Smokescreen (Smokescreen in Alternators color scheme with #7 on doors/wings)
Apex Armor with Breakdown

Deluxe Class
Bumblebee with Hawkbow (loaded with weapons ... looks awesome)
Soundwave & Ravage with Thunder Talon
Wheeljack with Falcon Spear
Lazerback with Toxic Strike Blaster

Voyager Class
Predaking with Hydrafire blasters (robot mode to be revealed later)

New packaging for Beast Hunters
Commented that the Beasts are large and heavy, larger than regular figures. I think they stated that the packaging for the beasts would be larger than others. Not sure if this translates to price or not.
Instructions to have a bit of story in them now (not sure if this replaces bios or not on packaging). Each instructions story leads into anothers. Runs through deluxe and voyager instructions.

Bumblebee instructions text: With the threat of Predaking looming over them all, every AUTOBOT dedicates himself to discovering some means of battling the PREDACON overlord. But it is the scout BUMBLEBEE who discovers what may be the key to victory. Buried deep within data recovered alongside one of the Iacon Relics he finds evidence of a direlict transport starship - a courier packed with weapons more ancient than any relic yet recovered - set adrift ages ago among the asteroids girdling Earth's solar system. With no other way to reach the ancient ship, and not wanting to waste time, he contacts WHEELJACK, hoping the AUTOBOT mercenary can provide transport and - if it turns out to be a trap - an extra blaster. Continued in Chapter 2 deluxe SOUNDWAVE ...

Kre-O Transformers
Ripclaw with Military Officer Kreon and Ripclaw Kreon
Bumblebee with Skystalker + 2 Kreons (Bumblebee is a 4x4 vehicle)
Trailcutter vs Grimwing
Windcharger vs Corhada

Transformers Generations
Different sizes for Generations
Introducting Transformers Generations Platinum Edition ... coming out late 2012/early 2013
Remolded and recolored Energon Omega Supreme (new head with flip down visor, new claw hand)
Energon Optimus Prime in G1 Optimus Prime color scheme
Packaging looks amazing (artwork for Omega Supreme will be revised), gold foil packaging, 5th panel window, G1 comic inspired artwork, carrying handle

Transformers Q&A
  • Are the upcoming Masterpieces coming to U.S.? Partnership with Toys R Us. No specific plans. But I would consider that they'll be here.
  • Still moving forward with Transformers Universe MMO from Jagex
  • Looking into bringing Arms Micron Unicron to U.S., but no set plans yet
  • Beast Wars or "who knows what can happen" in 30th anniversary / 2014
  • Talked about retail prices ... don't control retail prices
  • Sgt Kup and Rumble last two figures before Beast Hunters
  • Will we see Dinobots in season 3? Stay tuned!
  • Teased that Bruticus in G1 colors at retail?
  • Maybe and stay tuned to more Combiners. More to announce soon! Love the deluxe combiners.
  • Will Unicron be showing up again? Stay tuned ...
  • Keeping close eye on which characters from IDW comics are popular ... might translate as toys. Stay tuned!
  • Teased that deluxe Smokescreen might be coming
  • Want to make sure that all of the characters from the show make it out as toys
  • Voyager Prime Grimlock possibility?
