Recently, after putting up with the weird "not a gun" colors of voyager Classics Megatron in my neo-G1 collection, I went ahead and purchased voyager United Megatron. This is the first time I've purchased a Takara Tomy Transformers figure specifically for its deco when a Hasbro release of that character is readily available domestically (unique characters that Takara Tomy has done and Hasbro has not is a different story). I must say, I LOVE the United deco of the Classics Megatron figure. It's very reminiscent of G1 while retaining the "updated" concept of Classics/Universe/Generations Transformers toys.
Now, at the risk of this one off purchase leading to more, I think it would be interesting to start building a database of the current releases in the "Classics" releases from both Hasbro and Takara Tomy, along with pictures of the original G1 toys and the character models from the original cartoon. It would be an excellent tool to help new or even current collectors decide between Hasbro or Takara Tomy releases of characters, basing their decision on anything from original toy accuracy, to screen accuracy, to whichever just looks more appealing. Yes, a LOT of this information can be found at tfwiki.net, but not in an easy to browse format specifically for this purpose. Has anyone started work on a similar concept yet, and, if not, is anyone willing to start up such a project?
