It's not about hating Bay personally, it's about being a supporter of someone that couldn't give a damn about the fandom or the franchise some deem he has sullied. Bay has vocalized his disgust towards us, and I believe that several fans have the right to express their opinions of the product in return. I find it fascinating how some opinions are regarded as less important than any other. Some of us have been with the franchise since its inception, and for us not to be able to freely express a disapproval of the characters from afternoon cartoons, to comic books, videogames, toys, and on to the live action debacle (IMO) is saying our passion was spent in vain. Statements that invalidate that connection to our - yes "precious" - memories would enrage anyone that considers themselves true fans. Furthermore, we do not invalidate others opinions - only clarify illogical statements that can be discussed in civil banter.
"Haters gonna hate"... to this, I say **** yeah, and thank God they do. Lets say DOTM was Bay's greatest career achievement. Lets say he wants to make another - hell, lets say 4 more. More power to him. But think about the alternative in which a comic book story is brought to the silver screen. War Within, Shattered Glass, or Last Stand of the Wreckers. All character driven with adult undertones and homages to the greatest action/sci-fi/adventure flicks ever imagined (Star Wars, Star Trek, Full Metal Jacket, etc.). You say the human characters need to be represented, I say the bots themselves are the embodiment of the facets of humanity worthy of storytelling - complete with character flaw, tragedy, heroism, and yes - romance.
So, yeah... I come off as some kind of overgrown fanboy. Yeah, I take it too seriously. Yeah, the franchise has not been made for my personal taste. And yeah, Hasbro isn't even aware of my meager existence - and that's fine. But when someone that has no idea why I loved the franchise for so long tells me to get over it - I cannot let that pass without letting them know they're a noob, and have no idea of the universe these characters have traversed these past decades. Respect that, and we can move on from there.
