Hurricane Irene and the Eastern Seaboard of the USA

Almost six years to the date of Hurricane Katrina's landfall this storm takes aim at another "New" city.. This time New York looks to be the final landfall sometime on Sunday in the PM hours.

All I can say is do not take these things lightly, you guys in the impact zone (pretty much the whole East coast) have had AMPLE time to prepare for this storm (It has had it's current track for a couple of days now).. Be lucky that it did not suddenly swing it's track in the span of 8 hours (Friday night Aug 26th Katrina was scheduled to make landfall on the Miss/Alabama boarder.. We watched them reassure us that we would not be hit directly on the local news) and by 5am Sat the 27th the path had adjusted and put us in the bullseye.

If they say evacuate, for the safety of your families please do.
Please everyone be safe and smart.

Thanks for the support CB. It's pretty windy here at the moment, no rain yet. Hopefully for us this is all we're going to get. ;)

Thanks for the heads up!

I live in RI, right along one of the main rivers that feeds into the ocean. I was just reading that the storm will hit during a very large high tide and that they're expecting tide surges from 6 to 12 feet. That's crazy in my book, especially when you've surfed 4 to 6 foot waves during a high tide.

The state has already declared a state of emergency just to get everyone prepared, no matter the outcome.

Please, fellow fans of the east coast, be prepared and be careful. Don't be foolish and think you can go out and have fun in these storms...

I just hope the storms die down before they hit us. I rather doubt it though.

We can sometimes catch the nasty tail ends of hurricanes up here in Nova Scotia, forecast looks clear for now though.

Keep safe everyone below me!

How wide is this one?

And are they still expecting it to be Cat 4 or is it going to be higher?

ah well that's better. Two Cat 5's for me is enough, even a Cat 4 would do a bit of damage. I'm guessing there's a big chance of damage caused by tidal surge hence the mass evacuations?
