This is the most annoying storm so far... Lots of wind (some heavy gusts) and rain.. Levees toppled south of New Orleans... So slow moving it is not funny (it even stopped moving for about an hour or so).. Thank goodness my work laptop had a charge as we sit in our house with no electricity..

To everyone effected, please stay safe.. I will log back in when I can..

This is my road trip vacation. I went from Albany, GA to Shreveport, LA last night, outrunning the hurricane and its effects. Awesome timing. :-? Ironically, I was doing the same thing (going to the same place, Vegas) 7 years ago when Katrina hit New Orleans.

Anyway, stay safe, CB, i have some friends in Houma who decided to ride it out as well.

Thanks Guys.. The eye passed over Houma earlier this morn.. The wind is slowly decreasing but the damn rain is now picking up... We ended up by my sister in laws since she has power...

Ok.. As of this morn about 700,000 out of power.. Parts of the I-10 west of New Orleans are under water and impassable, subdivisions that don't flood have 4+ foot of water in their houses, areas in slidell have overtopped levees and rising rivers..

It is so slow moving that it is making cleanup difficult..

Stay strong CB. Hope everyone is well there. Keep us posted.
Looking to acquire a complete set of the G1 Insecticons (Bombshell, Kickback, and Shrapnel). They dont have to be MISB, have the cards. The TRU re-issues are fine too. The only person that can verify my buying status is CounterPunch as he is the only person I have purchased from.

Stopped by the house to clean the fridge and check the damage... Need to re-tar a part of the roof, ceiling in bedroom damaged.. Outside attic entrance door blew off, water damage to Ariel's bedroom and closet.. Windows need replacing too.. Rough assessment at least $4000 - $4500 in repairs... Insurance deductible is $5000 thanks to katrina.

And there are places around here that are flooding that have NEVER flood before due to toppling of some rivers..

Jeez man, I wouldn't know how to take it. I'm never moving into an area were hurricanes are a threat. Take care, that's all I can really say, and be careful.

Unfortunately there is no place that is safe from natural disasters of some sort.. Good thing about hurricanes is they give you some time to prepare.. Only ones like this one come and bite you in the ass because unlike most that are in and out of here this one sat for almost 2 days hammering us with 80+ mph winds and rain..
They are so unpredictable.. I remember years ago there was a storm that was a cat 3 when we went to sleep, then by the next morn it dropped to a low cat 1..

Is Interstate 10 still flooded in parts, or is it safe to travel on it in LA and MS?

Day 5 and my house is still without power.

Elderly folks on my block are sleeping on their front porches..
People are getting angry from being in the heat..

All this from a measly very slow moving cat 1 storm.. Incredible..

Yeah, that seems ridiculous. I would have thought Katrina taught the local and state governments a lesson down there about being prepared. I hope things improve for you and your neighbors.

Take care CB, I have distant family in Albany. My dad is from New Orleans. I guess there a reason why people hate utilities and government.

Oh yeah, in my town we dealt with the remnants of Isaac for a last couple of days. It is just slow rain storm now.
