I don't think that the Alts are any more complex than the recently released and well accepted Movie Leader Prime.
Heck, my ten year old niece put Skids from bot to alt and back in about 10-15 minutes without looking at the instructions. She had a little trouble with the arms at first but she figured it out. Course, she's not one to quit a challenge either...

BTW, the Grimlock/Wheeljack mold may be tricky, but the Skids/Broadblast is even trickier. Those who have problems with the Alt toys should indeed stick to the Fast Action Battlers range, or the even the fast food Transformers lines.
Cant agree more! The more complex the better. Alternators is my favorite line, MP's will be soon (I just need to get my hands on one!!!)

I'll just throw in my two pennies. Like most here the one thing I love about Alts is the complexity. Frankly it drove me nuts that for the longest time the difficulty rating on the back of the boxes had nothing to do with complexity but rather price point. I mean come on RiD Sideburn only got a 2 while RiD Prime got a 4. Sideburn was much more difficult to transform. I personally still thought he was pretty easy but definitely more complicated than Prime. Both of which I managed first time without instructions.
Back on Alts when they first came out they were actually the first transformers that really made me look at the instructions before I could get them down. Though as time progressed even the more difficult ones like Grimlock I managed with out instructions. It really is almost a personal test for me. Can I think on the same level as the guys that engineered this thing. Can I comprehend the design or do I have to look at the intrustions to understand it. The majority of the time to me they are very intuitive. Of course I will look at the instuctions after I think I have it right just to see if I missed anything.
Really part of the fun for me at least is the challenge. And I am personally glad that we do have some figures that are truely worthy of the skill ranking level 4. I was getting very tired of the likes of Cybertron Leader Prime being called a 4 when he is hardly more complex than Hotshot. But to each their own. Certainly for a child in the heat of a major battle you want something simple that can be transformed quickly. But I'm not a kid and my Transformers rarely battle any more, so mine don't need to be simple.
Ok, so maybe a bit more than 2 cents. I like to streach my money to the fullest.

Personally, I think the alternators are frickin' awesome! Too bad they ended
. I hope they come back after the movie line dies out...
Also, I really like complex transformations. that explains why I was drooling when i saw a video on MP Megs...

I think the transformations are fine for such high quailty figures. I'd actually be disappointed if these badass looking Alternators had Gobot transformations, that would be really cheesy.
As for the commment about chipping off the diecast, unless you are transforming them with a pair of pliers you should be fine. My Binaltechs have been displayed at work for over a year and still look pristine despite many transformations and nosy coworkers.
