As someone recently said to me "Hasbro may put Classics on pause for the release of the movie toys as they don't want the 2 lines competeing against each other" and that could be true. They may not want 2 lines of the same product out on the market at the same time, especially when one has an upcoming movie to boast for it. Once the movie dies down, and if Bay's film doesn't kill off the franchise, Classics will probably resume production.
Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the new Transformers cartoon supposed to begin airing in November? Hasbro is not going to want to have a competing line running with their movie line, after the movie comes out, be it good or bad. I think that the movie line will run up until the new cartoon begins, that way they are able to capitalize on the movie as much as possible, with both the big screen release and the DVD release. The reason we got the classics line was because there was no T.V. show on the air to help bring in the kids buying the toys, and they did not want to release the movie toys 6 months early. What really put the nail in the coffin for the classics line is the post that had an updated list of the movie figures. That list had Grimlock, Thundercracker, and Arcee, who are not even supposed to be in the movie. So I don't really see the classics line going much further after Devastator is released.
I would like to see them continue the line, but do it online. Since most of the characters that are being brought up are G1 then I don't see why Hasbro cannot just make the new figures available on their website. Most kids do not even know who a lot of the characters that are being updated really are.
Correct me if I'm wrong but in the past two years I've seen always at least 3 of the followings on the shelves at the same time: Energon, Universe, Alternator, Cybertron, Titanium and Classic.
Last time I went to the local shop there were the last four of them. (not counting the older toys on sale like Armada Laserbeak...)
Personally I don't understand why the Titatiums are still getting new molds. And I don't see why Movie toys, Cartoon toys and classics couldn't be there at the same time. Where is the competition here? It's Hasbro who sells all them anyway.
