Yeah, not understanding all the hate...

It's a new character, a new name, and a new vehicle. What is there to flame on? >:oP

I'm not sure you have enough time to go through "their" entire manifesto :HEADHURTS:

I'm fine with the name Stinger. It's simple and cool.
Thankfully its no Igor, Que, or Dino.
But still, we could get something along that line again. :-(

I don't like the name. It sounds silly. So I should GROW UP because of that?

Ok, so Igor, Scalpel, Dreads, and Brains are Bay made, and Dino/Mirage or Que/Wheeljack are kind of Bay made. Now this? Seriously? Atleast we knew that Dino was supposed to be Mirage, and Que supposed to be Wheeljack. They didn't let two good cars go to waste. Now this? That could have been a Stunticon, Hotrod, or even Dino if they wanted.....and they do THIS? I pray, that this is a placeholder name. I am about to turn into a Bayverse hater, if he doesn't stop trying to create his own cute little characters. :michaelbay: is the :KREMZEEK: of my life......

It's sad when the children act more like adults about their toys than the adults do. :P

Sorry, wasn't referring to your post, but the ones that were mad about his not being another recycled-name character. I'd imagine you'd still be cool with him being a new-named character if his name was different from "Stinger" but still new, right? :)

Thats what happen when you mix Gobots+Transformers, "Stinger" is a recycled name from Gobots... Transformers/Hasbro bought Gobots (character names/bios/storyline) time ago, however the actual toys and their likenesses were only licensed from Bandai, so no one can produce those toys anymore, at least the 80's shape look and feel

Or it could not be any go-bot rehash, but just simply a new character... I'm sure if TFs were real, you wouldn't know every single one of them, like as if you would know every single person on earth by name. You people get mad at the movie for dumb reasons. Wait for it to release, then there will be lots of more legitimate reasons to hate on it. For now, there is literally nothing to hate. Stinger can't really be that bad a name, at least it sounds better than all that other crap that was mentioned earlier, dino, que, igor  etc. But hey, i guess if you don't like a name, you just don't... like the name Keith? :P

So, what you're saying is...

Writers are not allowed to create their own characters, and must steal characters from everyone else's fiction in order to deliver the best story.

You forgot to point out the big obvious fact that Bay isn't the writer and probably had nothing to do with the name to begin with. Image

Seems fair enough. When I first saw it I thought maybe Dead End or Wildrider since there is talk of Stunticons in this movie. I would love that and have them combine. They can make up new chars all they want, Barricade is now one of my favorite Transformers.

Yes, they are. I have been open to new change in the Bayverse, but I mean come on......seriously? Your going to make your own characters when the respective name of the movie is TRANSFORMERS? If your going to make your own characters, then make a different movie about it, so you don't take away from OUR vast universe of characters we love and know.

Given that it's a Bay Transformer movie (with a history of dog-on-dog, mini-bot on leg and testicular and other anatomical cracks made in failed attempts at humor), and seeing as how this is most certainly a car changing into a bot and not likely to be a giant bee or scorpion... and it's name is STINGER... just what the hell kind of gimmick does this character have and do my kids need to be seeing this?

Don't be daft. The 1986 animated movie was almost all new characters, and it kicked ASS.

Yeah, and that was even at the expense of old characters, which doesn't seem to be the case here since we're still getting the likes of Optimus, Bumblebee, Hound, Grimlock, and more.

We get new characters all the time, primematrix1986. Ever since 1985, new characters just keep pouring in. Can you honestly think of any Transformers show, comic, or movie that didn't create their own new characters and only used old characters?

Exactly. Every Transformers show, comic, and movie included entirely new and original characters. Which makes this statement all the more ironic:

primematrix1986 wrote:I have been open to new change in the Bayverse, but I mean come on......seriously? Your going to make your own characters when the respective name of the movie is TRANSFORMERS?

Making new characters is part of "Transformers." Padlock, Hot Shot, Airachnid, and Yoketron are prime examples, and Stinger is just another one of them.

Yes, you are right. Trust me, I don't HATE the Bay movies, but I think they could be way better. In a comic or cartoon, they have time to develop that new character out. Plus, movies are visually better, even if the story like *cough ROTF cough* was bad, the eye candy was great. What my point is, that I want to see more original characters on the big screen so we can enjoy it more, rather than creating a NEW Transformer that could have been used as someone we actually know and relate to. That's like making The Avengers 2, but coming up with totally new characters, rather than giving us what we want - someone we know like Scarlet Witch, Ant-man etc. See my point?

Well chances are Stinger isn't going to get any real character development if the previous movies are any indication, so it doesn't matter. It's better with a new character coz if it sucks, at least it's not an old familiar thats being dumped on. RE: Avengers - Transformers aren't a team of 7 or 8 people, they're pretty much an entire race on a planet thats bigger than earth. Relish the introduction of a new character in the limelight, coz maybe it'll get more depth with comics, and even games (and hopefully a rad figure).

Thing is, these movies give so little exposure to the robot characters as people instead of just as eye candy that there's little-to-no reason for us to care about any of them, regardless of whether they recycle existing names or have newly-created names. The robots are so disconnected from the audience on a personal and familiar level that there's hardly anything relatable about them. If one has only seen the films and hasn't read the Movieverse comics or novels yet (like myself), then there's not much for that person to get out of these Cybertronians aside from flashy special effects cool-sounding voices, and altmodes of varying tastes.

From watching the films by themselves, we know next to nothing about Ironhide, Jazz, Ratchet, Barricade, Blackout, Bonecrusher, Brawl, Frenzy, Scorponok, Starscream, Sideswipe, Arcee, Jolt, Soundwave, Ravage, Grindor, the Constructicons, Sideways, Dino/Mirage, Que/Wheeljack, Roadbuster, Leadfoot, Topspin, Laserbeak, the Dreads, Shockwave, and more, beyond what's on the surface. The characters that the movies focused on the most and wanted us, the audience, to relate to the most were the humans, as which will likely not change for this movie as well. So even if Stinger did reuse an existing name, he'd probably just serve the same role as he will as Stinger, making the difference between his name being old and new so minor as to be virtually nonexistent. ;)
