IDW Nightbeat... WTF!?

Ok, story was half told. It is going somewhere, understand that, but really, this much of a story could have been told in an ashcan. But my real problem... WTF is up with the artwork! It looks like it was drawn in MS PAINT. The lines are all pixelated, there is practically NO inking, and pencils are barely above par to begin with. Really wish this issue had never happened. Guess part of it might be production. Both Pencils and Ink are credited to Mo Bright, and I've not heard the name before. Maybe someone can fill me in, is he always this bad?

hey,js...you are giving this story too much credit;the closest thing to explanation i can come up with is he has been converted into a headmaster without his consent......and the art a-sucks

From the artwork sneak peaks, UMs is going to be awesome. I like the artist they have for Sixshot as well. Haven't looked too much into the Hotrod guy yet though. And haven't checked into any of the writing staff.

I have suspicions that the spotlight series will be needed to understand the upcoming escalation series since if you've read the previews there's a reference to the shockwave one. Just a thought.

I'm not impressed with the artwork in Nightbeat's story at all. Sometimes sketchy works, but the actual draughtsmanship still needs to be there. This guy's faces (which, if we're honest, is what brings most character to a character) looked like they were sculpted out of mashed potato.

Shockwave and Hot Rod are pretty cool though. I'm looking forward to Sixshot; he's a character who deserves some spotlight.

Personally, I feel that most of the artwork in IDW's TF comics is rather lackluster. Don F is of course doing a great job and also Guido's comics (the few that have been) had good art.

But all the others...brrr...

E.J. Su draws them like they're gundams (at least the legs). It's obvious that he can draw details (because whenever a TF opens we see a plethora of details), but most of his work looks really bland. Also, especially in Infiltration #6, there was serious lack of consistency.

Nevertheless, compared to the spotlights we've had so far, E.J. Su shines. Shockwave I already found wanting, but the artwork in the Nightbeat spotlight was really bad. As was the Hotrod spotlight. That was really drawn in kiddie cartoon style. Really hope the next few spotlights will have good artwork.

It's the artist of the Dreamwave Robots in Disguise oneshot and Micromasters comics.

It's the same artist that did the RiD oneshot and Micromasters for Dreamwave, so don't get your hopes up...

I love Hotrods oneshot personally. Great back story, a different pre-earth alt mode than we've ever seen, and while it definitely is a strong style that some people aren't going to go for, it tends to follow the rules it sets up. By this I mean even though the lines that might be drawn straight by Don are curved, its perspective and foreshortening are kept constant. This makes it look more animated, but not necessarily "cartoony." Granted, I don't want to see every TF book in this style, but I'm happy to see a one shot in it, and would happily choose it over Su's.
