I'm actually interested in Magnus. Simplistic transformation and shellformer-ish aspects aside, I'm glad there was more to his leg transformation. The way his rear wheels were mistransformed in the earliest photos made me think he was too easy, but the little bit of wraparound his leg made a bit more difference.

Is there any kind of video or demonstration showing how paint-apps are done? To at least explain why it's so expensive or otherwise difficult to use it more on figures?

I'd have to see some action and some screen time for both of them. That will be the decider. If they're characters who, like Shockwave and Hardshell, don't get much character development, it's a no-go.

Well, the last two pics show the sword deployed when attached to his arm, whereas an earlier pic showed the weapon attached to the same arm with the sword swung back.

They don't have to make a Hardshell, just an Insecticon. What are the differences besides battle damage?

And I don't get your Shockwave comment. Even if he is just a one-episode character with the least amount of development. Well:

Accidental production or not (because Hasbro thought these two characters, Cliffjumper for the most part, were going to get more screen time and development. Hence Dreadwing before Skyquake), they're still getting releases. Let's review their development Cliffjumper is a hot headed chatter-mouth that died [3 episodes] and Skyquake is a loyal warrior and twin of Skyquake that died [2 episodes]. Shockwave is a scientist that created a cortical psychic patch, is as creepy as Soundwave that probably (I hope not) died [1 episode].

Besides, with the Rage of Dinobots comic coming out, we're speculating Shockwave comes to Prime as a permanent character in Season 3, which would usually (thanks for Breakdown & Smokescreen Hasbro) mean a toy. I hope we get toys of these characters we need in the "Beast Hunters" toyline.

Personally I don't much see why Shockwave NEEDS a figure. Yes, this:

and this:

are noticeably different, and yeah it could be a Voyager sized figure, but it'd be kind of overkill so soon after Animated, Dark of the Moon, and FOC(which is the same character from Prime).

They didn't seem to have a problem with releasing the same characters during the Unicron Trilogy and Movieverse. Why not Prime (which is already a participant. Any line is, really)? And the Beast Hunters line isn't coming out that soon. It wouldn't be overkill if Shockwave was there.

I didn't say he needs a figure. But they're wasting their money on Bees and Non-show characters that we dont get characters like Breakdown and Smokescreen in the US. What if Shockwave becomes a main character ala RoD? Would you want a toy of a core cast member?

If Shockwave became a core member, ok he would need a figure. And for some reason I glossed over the probable Beast Hunters point, so at that point it probably wouldn't be overkill.

Anyway, I also agree that it is taking awhile for them to make other core members of the show, considering how long it's been out. Yes back when it was started there wasn't a toyline in mind, but wouldn't that make it easier to decide what characters to make?

Also, the whole First Edition thing was an odd move. Still not sure why they would make two versions of the same character that aren't all that much different.

Of course there's always Cyberverse. Even though I don't plan on getting into it, there's a line that not only gets the core cast but also homage repaints. And for what it's worth, Breakdown and Ironhide.

I hadn't noticed the similarities until now. Most certainly not a close translation from Prime animation model to FOC figure, but there are similarities... The cannon hand is a given, the collar pieces around the neck, the wings on the back, the forearms have a bulkiness to them, the chest, the knees...it's just barely passable as a Prime toy. Maybe with an accurate paint job and a couple of mold edits..he could work.

Hasbro/Takara, you save my money again. Thank you and no thank you.

Honestly, if I really want to pick one, I might choose Ultra Magnus. But only if I know whom to repaint and custom him in to.

Ultra Magnus looks amazing, definitely his alt mode. Not sure how I feel about Thundertron...may have to pass on him.

Well well well... Magnus looks like a pass (bland alt mode, okay robot mode, boring colour scheme), while Thundertron looks great at first sight. On a closer look, though, I rather dislike his rather light blue colours overall - a darker tone would be much better, this has a "cheap" appeal to it.
Also, why all these crappy mechtech weapons that serve no better purpose than being tried once and then thrown away for good!? Give the pirate a real sword, darnit, made out of translucent plastic, like Vector Prime's, for example. Shiver me timbers! Right now I really hope some third party source will make a better toothpick for the space-lion - until then I will wait. There's lots of other stuff I can happily buy in the meantime. Still a little sad, since the idea is kinda cool... >:oP

I actually like both of these and I am going to get both. They aren't spectacular, but I do want them for my Prime collection. I may pass on most of the deluxes though, other than Smokescreen.
