Is Star Fox 64 the best game of the series?

I was thinking about this and really none of the Star Fox games can compare to the one released for N64. Have there even been any true fully flight/drive SF released since then? I know Adventures or whatever it was called had a couple of space missions but it was limited.

From my experience, Starfox64 was the highlight of the series. the StarFox Adventure series took fox out of where he really should have been, the cockpit. It doesn't help that that game was just a remake of an abandoned game called Dinosaur planet (granted SMB2 was doki doki panic, but at least that was fun).

I hear there's a new DS version out that looks to be a pretty good shooter, but I haven't played it yet.

The DS game is called Starfox Command. I think that it's 100% space shooter.

I thought Assault was good, but it really focused too much on the third-person aspect, and not enough on the tried-and-true railshooter aspect.

But when they DID add it, it was awesome.

Starfox64 was a classic but I found the original for the SNES to be the most difficult in the series but not as fun as Starfox64.

Yeah the original was insanely hard. I made it to venom and Andross but lost right as I was about to get the last hits on him.

I couldn't get passed the 4th mission, it was just too hard and my gaming ability back when I was a kid wasen't as good as it was now but I don't think even now I would be able to beat the game. It was just pure insanity o.o

Starfox 64 has to be one of my favorite games ever.

But those who are wondering about the DS version: get it. In my opinion it's one of the best ones since 64 and introduces a lot of new gameplay elements.

Plus it has some great writing in it as well if your going for stories.

"DO A BARREL ROLL!" Thread over.

Seriously though, I think that they should have released Star Fox 2 back on the SNES. It was finished but did they release it? No, they had to keep their 3D games for the N64, which only came out a year after SF2 would have hit shelves. Sure, they used SF2 when they made the DS Star Fox, but another SNES adventure would have helped the system survive for a little while longer.

Well having actually played SF2... Yes I mean the SNES version, I can tell you almost half of it was put into the N64 game. Hell "all range mode" came from SF2.

I never could get the ROM fix working properly. I'll have to keep trying.

I concur, Starfox 64 was the best Starfox game, hands down. I can't wait to struggle with connecting my Wii to the internet when they put it on VC. My best friend got two for his birthday back in the day and he still has one sealed with the expansion pack. Lucky bastard.

Lylat Wars is glorious. I only borrowed it from a friend but I was much better than him at it... At first I was rather terrible but when I had gotten the hang of it I could pick up the two laser upgrades in the beginning of the first level and then never lose them during the entire difficult route. Ah, those were good times.

SFA (both of them, I guess) is okay if you like the series and the genres they belong to but not as spectacular as Lylat Wars. The adventure game did have pretty good graphics but it wasn't as well done as it should've been. Plus, it would've been cooler in the original setting.

Also, isn't Fox McCloud rather arrogant? He's the leader of a team named after him and their main ship is called "The Great Fox".

Wasn't that named after Fox's father?

Fox's dad was James McCloud. I think he might've named it either after his species, or after his son. (Fox)

Hahaha, I remember when that comic first came out. I was happy to see I wasn't the only one who thought that game was riddled with sexual innuendos. Always makes me chuckle, then cry a little.

Oh the wit.

I wish though that Scott would've released the comic with the picture of leo by Aeries side looking very horrified. That one made my day.

Though one thing I liked in 64 was all the Sci fi references.

Here's a list of the ones I found.

-Corneria: same name of the first city in Final Fantasy.

-Katina: pretty much Independance day in a nut shell

-Sector Y: The Mechs in this level look very Gundam esc, sorta like Gelgoogs. There's even one that has Char Aznable's trademark colors.

-Sector X-:I know for a fact that the Spyborg boss is based from some movie.

I know that there are more, there has to be.

Also not from the same game, but in Command to destroy a mother ship. You have to boost and barrel roll right into it, a move that was also taken from Independance day.
