Is TFP Smokescreen a repaint?

I have been watching some TFP episodes, and Smokescreen caught my eye. I don't care for the toys, but I might get this 1 if it's ever released. I like the mold, so I was wondering if it's a repaint of a currently released figure.

Unfortunately yes, a repaint of Knock Out.

Huh. I just saw Knockout at my Walmart this morning, and was not impressed. Maybe it's the colors or the car mode, but Smokescreen looked much better in the few episodes I've seen him in. I like his character, too.

His Cyberverse figure is a new mold. His Deluxe is a repaint of Knock Out in Japan.

I felt the same way when I saw it in the stores, but I picked him up recently at Aldi for $9.99, and was actually much happier with it than I thought I'd be, particularly in bot mode. I really like the bot mode, especially after finding out how to adjust the transformation to make it better than what the instructions show. The car mode is too small and I don't like the paint job, but I don't think I'll ever put him back in car mode anyway.

So the point is, I ended up liking the mold, so I'll probably buy Smokescreen since it's the same mold with a cooler (IMO) paint scheme.

That's because the CGI model of Smokescreen is actually a unique model or at worst greatly tweaked from Knock Out. The toy only alters the head and adds a spoiler. It's not that show-accurate.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. When is Smokescreen coming out, anyone know?

End of this month, which is next weekend.

Agreed, Knock Out is a great mold, for no more than $10, that is. I'm really happy I picked it up, but I'm also glad I held out.
