The movie's very nearly here. The wait is very nearly over. And boy has it been fun.

When did they announce it? 2004? 2005? Plenty of things have happened over that time.

The fandom's torn itself apart over the new designs, over the new direction. I recall a lot of people, including myself, leaving the boards in protest against being associated with the people who couldn't accept it all.

We've enjoyed a short-lived Classics run, which kept most of us pretty damn happy. We've witnessed the rise of the latest gimmick - 'Automorph'. And even now we're seeing a whole new breed of Transformers fans in the wake of the movie.

Anybody care to share their personal significant moments from over the past few years?

And please, no resurrecting old disputes over the designs or whatever.

Motto: ""Not good enough for G1!""
Ah, memories... I was excited as hell about the announcement... I'd been sucked back into the fandom around the time of RID. I'd started picking up a few of the reissued figures. And when I heard about the upcoming movie, I told everyone that I thought would care! Then the videos on the web started showing up... You know the ones; the Citroen, Michael Smith's transforming Beetle, the Breakdancing Soundwave... "Could this be what it'll look like?!?!?!"

DonMurphy.net -Oh, I joined the site as soon as I heard about it! Although I wouldn't call myself a "Stooge" in any way... I'd thought Murphy was a bit full of himself, but had thoroughly enjoyed many of his flicks in the past, so a bit of an attitude he deserved! Oh, and that he WANTED OUR INPUT towards the film! My goodness! A producer who would LISTEN TO THE FANS! It was too good to be true!!! (and, sans a few details (Cullen as Prime)- ultimately so...)

Then, we saw the first designs... "WTF! That's not [insert character here]!" Turmoil, disgust... Even Seibertron got involved with "Megatron 101". But, as G1 as I was... the designs grew on me. They will never replace the character designs I grew up and loved as a kid (and to this day!), but they're nice.

SectorSeven.org -What can I say? A Transformers-based ARG (Alternate Reality Game)? Cool! I got into the "ILoveBees" game that was being run to promote "Halo 2", so why not get into another one for one of my favorite TV series/movie I'm excited for?). Well, I hopped onto the site, found out about the http://www.buzznet.com/stopsectorseven site, and saw the confusion/chaos on the site... So I sent an email asking for help/organization to "Agent X", the person who was leaking us (most of) the information from Sector 7. Then, the next thing I know, I'm getting contacted by (who would turn out to be) Dr. Rebecca Howard, an ex-Sector 7 agent who thought it best to expose the truth about N.B.E.'s to the other powers of the world, so we could be ready to defend ourselves from any hostile N.B.E.'s (IE-the Decepticons)... Anyways, I was offered an Administrator position on the Buzznet site, and have been having fun with it ever since!

So, my ride's not quite over yet... and I'm pretty excited to see what else is yet to come!

It has been a roller coaster of a ride, that's for sure.

From the board wars, to the influx of new members I'd say the past few years has been the most active and...interesting time of the Transformers fandom. 8)

I will not say that this whole movie discussion will be over once the movie comes and goes. Sure there will be a lull for a while, but as soon as a sequel is announced (and I have a feeling they WILL do a sequel) stuff will be picking up again. If the movie does well, they will be rushing to make TF2 soon after that so they can maximize profits while Transformers are still 'new' and 'cool.'

Edit: I would love to be a character or the voice of a character in the sequel!

i've been looking forward to this movie for sooo long now. i always end up bringing it up when i talk to people. its pretty bad, but im like obsessed with this :-(.

they will come out with transformers 2 for sure. this movie will be huge i think, and that will be enough to make another. us fans would probly want one anyways. and since some people are already signed for a second..uuuh, then i guess there is one.

well that's good. hopefully the transformers are more involved in this one and we get to see more of them fighting. and hopefully they are all equally shown throughout the movie unlike in this one, where brawl and bonecrusher dont get shown till the end i think.

The sequal should have more bots in it. The first film had to set everything up and now the second it free to do whatever the hell it wants!

Possible spoiler:

In the novel and Script: at the end, Prime sends a signal out into space calling any Transformer still out there to come to Earth.

In the sequel they probably will be saying "Well the fans or movie goers didn't like this or that so lets change it, and lets add a few characters on either side to beef them up a little."

I bet if Megatron ever dies in any of the movies, they will bring him back as Galvatron. Plus I hope they don't give us a Danial in the sequal.

I think my interest in the film was sparked highly by the first announcement trailer. Go to YouTube and watch it now, and just forget you knew anything about the movie. It's almost magic.

Hmm, my memories of the movie build up are not good.

I recall the excitement, the let down, I remember the shock at people loving generic mech like Bumblebee yet hating the very traditional Starscream.

And then I remember the hatred towards anyone who didn't like the movie.
I remember stopping posting at boards because anyone who tried to discuss it (not moan, discuss) was told to shut up unless it was blind praise.
I remember stating that it was possible to take a G1 style and increase realism without going to the extreme that the movie had, (half way between Alt and movie) and also stating that that doesn't mean it should have been done that way, just that it was possible.
And then I remember being told I wanted oversized inarticulate toys on screen, needed to grow up and started recieving abusive emails.

Still not sure about the movie; some bots look great, prequel and trailer leave me expecting something more simplistic and generic than we ususally get, but it has changed my view of the fandom.

Many movie fans I've talked to do exactly what they call geewunners for, they're just as elitist and arrogant and quick to dismiss any other possibility and they've taken just as much fun out of things as those they rant about.

Thats what I was also thinking with G1 for a movie. Some folks (probably including Mr.Bay too) think G1 bots only can be portrayed as blocky if you stick them in a movie.
Sometimes I want to tear my hair out when folks say that, and I want to say to them "No, no, no! G1 CAN be done up differently then just being blocky! There are ways to do it realistically if you just think on it and use imagination!" It just drives me nuts sometimes. It is just sad that there ARE ways to do it, keeping character and hopefully alt form..

Like for example when Mr.Bay thinks he has to ditch G1 alt modes:
Megatron becoming a gun by using mass shifting: Hello they ARE aliens with advanced technology!

Strascream being an F-15 Eagle: The F-15s will be active until 2030. Lots more of them then F-22s, so he would be only one among many. Good for hiding for at least a couple of decades. And by the end of a couple of decades hiding may not even be necessary anymore.

Soundwave being a tapedeck: Tapedecks still exist. Though now with CD players on them. He wouldn't look out of place if he chose that.

Bumblebee: Can't do anything about Volkswagon, sadly. So he would have to be something else.

The rest: Well you get the idea.

I would have to think about how G1 could look good in robot mode minus blockyness, but its late and I want to go to bed soon.

The thread where someone complained about the possibility of Megatron being killed by Sam has got me thinking.

I'm tired of everybody complaining about the movie. Geewunners are making me more and more angry.

I did it back in the day myself, yes. I was gonna boycott it because Soundwave wasn't in it. But Frenzy as they have him is close enough. At this point it's just a name anyway, so I don't care.

That's what other people need to realize. Stop acting like it matters so much. Sam killing Megatron is not a horrible travesty. It is, in fact, really cool because it connects the TF's to something less far-fetched after all the unbelievable Michael Bay mayhem: us. I'm sick of all the human hate-orade. If you think that audiences will buy TF's as we do, you're either in denial or incredibly naive.

Here's the problem: People are still married to the idea of a G1 movie because they need one. They're getting the book, and the comics, and the game, and the soundtrack, and the happy meals, because they are filling their lives with this movie because they need it.

I can't say "get a life" because you can't just press a button. What I can say is exapand the life you do have. The biggest reason I'm able to forget about a G1 movie is because I'm back at school, studying CG which has given me a huge appreciation for the new designs, rather than filling my face with G1 nostalgia, which would make me puzzled and upset by them.

People need to move away from the TF movie and look for a meaning in their lives that they can control. Creativity and making my own stuff that I do like is what works for me. When I was living at home at 26 and working at a lumber yard, I was more than ready to get pissed at the movie. Now I'm doing something with my life and I could care less. And I don't even have a girl.

Stop obsessing about the movie and do something more with your life than needing this movie.

If this movie sucks, it will be due to shaky cameras, cop-out or cliche writing, bad acting, CG that looks fake, and overall loud bullshit that is more annoying than exciting.

Will it have these things? It very well might. What it will have is a run of the mill alien invasion story featuring replicas of our TF's, and few homages to the original stories that brought them to life. Michael Bay didn't want to do a toy movie, and he didn't. Accept it and move on to your other hobbies.

That's my 100 cents on the ride it's been.

Zombie Starscream wrote:Megatron becoming a gun by using mass shifting: Hello they ARE aliens with advanced technology!

Nope. That doesn't matter. What matters is that they need to appeal to what the public will believe on screen. I'm glad he doesn't shrink. It's cool in the cartoon, but this is supposed to be a step up in realism, so he shouldn't shrink.
Buy my RiD toys! They're awesome, I promise!!!!
