Kaon - To retrieve the key to change worlds.

Homeworld of the Transformers. Drained and ravaged by thousands of vorns of civil war, Cybertron is a mere barren husk of once beautiful and thriving cybernetic world. While recovered enough to allow Transformers to move on its surface once again, it is still plagued by ion storms and any Transformer unfortunate enough to venture there without energon supply of their own is certain to face a stasis lock.

Rampage had done what Razorclaw asked without any argument. In these circumstances, it wouldn’t make sense to argue anyway. The sooner they accomplished whatever Megatron had sent the cyclops here to do, the sooner they could either get Cybertron back to the way they remembered it, or the sooner they could chalk this world up as a complete loss and move on. Rampage wasn’t exactly thrilled with the latter option, but he’d take it over trying to subsist on scraps for the remainder of his functioning existence. He was a predator, after all. He needed prey. And Cybertron, at least in its current state, offered little of that.

Arriving at a junction of two anterior corridors, Rampage paused, looking down each. Neither one of them seemed to indicate the presence of significant life, be it cyber-rat or anything else. He had the sinking feeling that this was going to turn out to be some sort of wild fox chase. He…

…?

Rampage’s auditory sensors perked up as they detected some sort of noise. It had originated from the right corridor. Underneath his faceplate, the Predacon grinned as he drew his blade. Finally, he thought, as the decision as to what path he would take had now, thankfully, been made for him.

Kolkular--Command Hub

Though he did not visually acknowledge Razorclaw's words, Shockwave had heard and processed everything that the Predacon Commander had said. Howlstrike presented an unusual loose end. It would have to be tied up, one way or another, before their ultimate departure. Regardless, the report had given Shockwave the information that he had wanted.

"Satisfactory," he said, in typical form.

Having gained access to all but the most sensitive areas within Kolkular, areas that Megatron had restricted exclusively to his own personal use, Shockwave was now completely interfaced with the inner workings of Kolkular, as was evident by the miniaturized streams of information that scrolled across his own singular optic, just as they streamed across the various holoscreens in front of him.

Fortunately Megatron had informed him of where the cyberforming interface was kept, otherwise it, too, would have been off limits, even to Shockwave. Even now, previously sealed doors within the hub slid open, allowing several service drones to emerge. Within the metallic arms of the three service drones--now running on the most basic power routines--was the oddly-shaped device. It was, truly, the key to change worlds. With the research they had accomplished on Ore-13, its potential applications were exponential.

"Declarative: this device must return to Polyhex, undamaged. It, with my research, is one of the primary keys to Cybertron becoming inhabitable once again."

One by one, the holoscreens and datafeeds that had occupied much of Shockwave's attention steadily faded from existence. He had accomplished what he had come here to accomplish. As he had suspected, there was little that could be sustained on Cybertron in its present state. Traveling to Iacon was now the final phase of his mission. Once he had accomplished his necessary work there, he could submit a sufficient report to Megatron.

"Imperative: see that your subordinates are sufficiently fueled and return to Polyhex. You will assume command until either I or Thunderwing return. Secure the cyberforming interface aboard the Thanatos. I will eventually continue onward to Iacon. There is little for us in Kaon. Not at present."

Given the circumstances on Cybertron, the next logical step was for Shockwave to engage the Autobots, but not in the manner that they would typically expect.

Kolkular - Inside Command Hub

Razorclaw watched with great interest as Shockwave activated a trio of service drones that quickly appeared from behind the walls, carrying in their appendages a strange looking cyberforming device. The Predacon Commander then listened carefully as the cycloptic mech made it clear that the device needed to be returned to Polyhex intact and then secured aboard the Thanatos. The interface was of vital importance to the restoration of Cybertron and needed to be protected at all costs. Razorclaw understood little of how the device actually worked, but it did not matter. He had his orders and they would be carried out with precession and efficiency.

"It will be done, my lord," Razorclaw responded to Shockwave as he bowed his head. Wasting no more time, the Predacon Commander motioned for the service drones to follow him as he turned and walked out of the command hub.

Kolkular - Outside Command Hub

Once outside the doors, Razorclaw immediately noticed Headstrong lying on the ground a short distance away, clearly not following the orders that had been given to him. Razorclaw strolled up to him and gave the mechanical rhinoceros a swift kick to his side, not hard enough to do any real damage but just enough to get his undivided attention. "Get your lazy aft up, Headstrong! This isn't a vacation we're on! We have work to do!"

The Predacon Commander frowned as he then opened a comm line to the rest of his unit:

>>"Predacons, this is Razorclaw. Return to the entrance of the command hub at once. We will be leaving for the transport shuttle in one breem and then returning to Polyhex with precious cargo in our possession. It is of the utmost importance that we move out soon so get your afts in gear without delay!"<<

Razorclaw then glanced down and gave Headstrong another dirty look before turning and walking back to meet the trio of drones that were waiting just outside the hub's entrance way. The Predacon Commander examined the cyberforming device carefully to ensure that nothing had happened to it while he was off admonishing his subordinate. He hadn't been away from the interface for long, but it wouldn't take but an astrosecond for a cyber-rat to bite into a tasty-looking piece of technology such as this.

Soon, Divebomb and Tantrum appeared, joining their commander by the service drones. Now, only Rampage was left to arrive and once he did, the Predacons would refuel as necessary and then begin their journey back to the transport shuttle that was still docked on the fortress city's top level.

Kolkular

Without energy and without much in the way of ambient lumination, Kolkular was now designed for the needs of predator and not prey. Rampage had transformed and was now stalking the corridors of Kolkular, looking both for the energy nests that Razorclaw had wanted as well as investigating that odd noise he'd heard. He hadn't seen even one little cyber-rat since encountering that one back on the way to the Hub itself. If they were here, they were hiding. And hiding well. Wherever they were, Rampage was getting no viable energy readings, save for the generator that Shockwave had reactivated earlier. Kolkular, as much as he hated to admit it, was a loss. At least for right now.

Rampage paused in mid-step as Razorclaw's latest transmission came through. Good. Apparently the cyclops had finished whatever he had come here to do and wasn't going to garrison them all there out of some sort of obsequious act of sentimentality over what this place once meant to the Decepticon empire. This was Shockwave he was talking about, though, so he would've been surprised if he had.

>>"I'm on my..."<<

Without warning, a junkish mechanoid lurched out of from the shadowed, anterior corridor that Rampage was just about to explore before getting called back, slamming him against the wall. Rampage's combat instincts turned on immediately, and his compact, mechanized feline form launched back at the thing, slamming it in to the ground and digging four sets of claws as well as a set of teeth in to various vital areas, tearing away. It took him a moment to identify the thing, but once he did, he could barely keep down the crude oil churning inside him--a cannibalizer. Or at least that was just one of the half-dozen different names Rampage had heard these things called.

For most of Cybertronian history, such constructs had been little more than an urban legend. But since the Great Shutdown, all sorts of nightmares had become reality, what was one more?

It was a misshapen collection of various robotic parts, meshed together. To hear someone like Bugly or Mindwipe tell it, they were sparks that had been extinguished and reanimated again, but Rampage chalked that up to the sort of wacko spiritual nonsense that 'Cons like that loved to spout. They were empties, and Rampage's view. Plain and simple. And when the Predacon tore through the thing's torso and it finally stopped twitching, that confirmed it in his mind.

Rampage pulled himself away from the cannibalizer and headed off back to Razorclaw's position. Given their proximity within the fortress, it didn't take all that long for him to arrive.

"Ready when you are," he said, looking over at the others and then at Razorclaw.

Razorclaw was pleased when he saw Rampage rejoin the group. Now the Predacons were all together again and could begin their journey back to the surface of the fortress city. "Excellent," the Predacon Commander responded before then turning to address the others, as well. "As I said in my previous communique, we are heading back to the transport shuttle and then onward to Polyhex. Shockwave was able to gain access to this cyberforming interface." Razorclaw motioned towards what the three service drones were holding in their arms. The device was strange looking, but that did not change its significance in the restoration of Cybertron.

"It is extremely important that we transport this device back to the Thanatos without damaging it. These drones will carry it on our trip back to the shuttle. I want the four of you to form a protective circle around the device while I take the lead. I don't want so much as a cyber-rat or any other vermin getting anywhere near it. Is that understood?" Razorclaw looked from one Predacon to the other before continuing. "If you require refueling now, see Tantrum. He still has one full tank left. It should be enough for everyone as long as you only take what you need. If further recharging is necessary, we can do so at Emergency Powerplant A-1."

Razorclaw then transformed to lion mode, taking point as Tantrum allowed some of his teammates to tap into his spare fuel tank. The Predacon Commander did not require a recharge at the present time as his fuel cells were still at above sixty percent capacity, which would be plenty for the trek back to the landing zone. He had not gone out earlier to search for energy pockets or cyber-rats and thus his energon levels were higher than the rest, with the exception of Headstrong who had decided to lounge around instead. "Let's get moving everyone! That means you, too, Headstrong! Up and at 'em! We have a long trip ahead of us."

Divebomb and Tantrum quickly fell into position on either side of the cyberforming device as Razorclaw turned his attention down the dimly lit corridor that led away from the Command Hub. Assuming that everyone was sufficiently refueled, the Predacon Commander moved onward through the bowels of Kolkular as the service drones and his team followed.

"Hnn." Headstrong grunted as Razorclaw decided to inspire action in the mechanical rhinoceros by planting a swift kick on his side. "I am coming boss, try not to get a seizure. Sheesh. *snort*"

Transforming into robot mode, equipping his rifle and sword, Headstrong took a position as the rear guard and followed his teammates back towards the landing pad.

Kolkular--Command Hub

With the cyberforming interface now under the capable protection of Razorclaw, Shockwave's attention now turned towards the next order of business. The process of making Cybertron inhabitable once again was a puzzle of the highest magnitude. The pieces did not need to be assembled in one specific way in order for everything to come together, but assembly was the key point. Shockwave could take several approaches to putting this next section together, but his logic had calculated that the step he was about to take would be the most logical, even if it would not appear that way to all.

Accessing the basic communications relays that had been established inside Kaon as well as Polyhex and even a faint signal from where Shockwave had determined Thunderwing and his crew were likely to be at this stage of their mission, the Military Operations Commander now began seeking out signals in Iacon--inevitably the primary operating base of any Autobots currently on Cybertron, given its historical significance. Moreover, a critical location if sustainable energy sources were to one day exist on Cybertron again. As expected, there were any number of encryptions present on the various signals bouncing back and forth between the Autobots. It was neither Shockwave's mission nor objective to break them. Instead, he created a broadwave signal that would be sent into the entire northern region. Any Autobot with a functioning communications monitor would be able to pick up the completely unsecured communiqué.

>>"Attention--Autobot soldiers. This is Decepticon Military Operations Commander Shockwave requesting direct communication with any command level Autobot possessing the authority to speak on behalf of any subordinates stationed on Cybertron. Respond at this frequency."<<

Shockwave's optic flickered but he said nothing further at this point. He had contingencies in place regardless of whether or not they responded and, following that, regardless of whether or not that decided to agree with his proposition. This critical path had to be explored, however, before he would pursue others.

Kolkular – Sector C-8

Razorclaw guided his Predacons through the catacombs that the fortress city had degraded into long ago. Shockwave was right. There was nothing for them in Kaon at the present time. Only the cyberforming device was of any consequence to them and even it would not remain here for much longer. Perhaps this device, coupled with whatever Shockwave was working on, would restore not only Kolkular but the entire planet. One could only imagine seeing Cybertron again the way it used to look - a silver beacon glimmering in the blackness of space. It would be a great day indeed if that ever came to pass.

In the meantime, there was still work to be done and Razorclaw remained focused on carrying out the last leg of the mission. They had spent enough time within the dead fortress city. The numerous cyber-rats along with other nasty vermin had become a nuisance more than anything. It was nothing the Predacons could not handle, of course, but fighting such creatures was beneath their capabilities. It was time to finally leave and return to Polyhex.

Kolkular Landing Zone – Upper Level

Razorclaw emerged from the access hatch first, followed by the drones that carefully lifted the cyberforming tech out of the hole and onto the landing platform. The rest of the Predacons followed suit as Razorclaw sent a deactivation signal to the auto-guns before motioning for the drones to load the device onto the transport shuttle that rested not far from where they stood.

Once the drones were on their way, Razorclaw turned towards Divebomb and Tantrum. “You two gather up the auto-guns and place them in the cargo hold. Secure them well. I don’t want anything coming loose and falling into the cyberforming interface. Understood?” His two subordinates nodded in response and then moved towards the portable weapons. “Good. The rest of you get on board the shuttle ASAP. We’re leaving in less than one breem.“

Razorclaw then turned and walked over to the transport shuttle. He ascended the ramp, which lead up into the craft’s main hold where the drones had already secured the cyberforming device where nothing else could touch it. He carefully examined the interface once again to ensure it was undamaged in even the slightest way. Once the Predacon Commander was satisfied, he moved to the cockpit of the shuttle and took a seat at the controls.

As he readied the shuttle for liftoff, Razorclaw’s thoughts drifted back to Shockwave’s inquiry regarding Howlstrike. The Predacon Commander had been caught off guard by the question, which was unusual for him since he was always prepared for any contingency, no matter how unlikely. The matter of Howlstrike was something Razorclaw did not like to dwell on for any amount of time. He would much rather just forget about it, but ultimately Razorclaw knew that he could not. The traitor would have to be dealt with eventually and possibly soon if his former subordinate was currently on Cybertron.

You will not make me look the fool again, Howlstrike, Razorclaw thought as he punched in the final series of commands into the shuttle’s control console, the last of which retracted the ramp and closed the outer doors. Divebomb then appeared and took a seat in the navigator’s chair. “The auto-guns are secured, sir. We’re all on board and ready to go.”

“Excellent,” Razorclaw responded before turning his attention back to Tantrum, Headstrong and Rampage. “Strap yourselves in. I’m taking us up.” The Predacon Commander initiated the launch sequence which in turn ignited the primary thrusters. Soon the shuttle was airborne and heading back towards Polyhex with its precious cargo in tow.

When Kup turned out to be the one to respond to Shockwave’s request, the Decepticon Commander was satisfied. Kup, arguably better than any of the others in their ranks, understood the nature of the toll that their ongoing war had taken on their home planet. By that same reasoning, it was a logical probability that he would be the most likely—certainly of the ones that Shockwave could see—to not discount Shockwave’s words out of hand and simply opt for the easiest course of action…continued aggression. He and several other Autobots appeared on the screen before him. That was to be expected. A communication of this nature between their two sides was so exceedingly rare that it would naturally obtain the curiosity of anyone nearby who had heard of it. Kup saw fit to not engage in pleasantries, which suited the cycloptic commander exceedingly. He had never seen fit to do so either.

“Declarative: both Autobot and Decepticon forces have made progress in establishing functioning colonies on Cybertron once more. Problem--given the rate of conflict between our two sides since our mutual arrival, I calculate a 73.5674% probability that advancements made to restore the planet to its proper functioning will be delayed and, in some cases, severely impeded during subsequent engagements. The same will inevitably occur in Iacon, where your subordinates have no doubt made progress of their own. Solution—a temporary ceasefire between our respective forces.”

Shockwave stepped backward and took a seated position within the throne of the command hub, patching himself directly in to those aspects of Kolkular’s internal workings that he had brought online previously.

“Neither party present has authority to establish any lasting peace between our sides. Moreover, even with no further hostilities, given the minimal rate of energy discovery coupled with the increasing energy use that re-colonization requires, current outposts on Cybertron could cease functioning within a single vorn. While on this planet, those under my command have taken steps to make Cybertron operational once more—and to defend what progress we have made when necessary against incursions from Autobot forces. Our actions demonstrate that your conquest and destruction have not been our primary goals; however, that will not remain true indefinitely if your subordinates maintain their current pattern. To that end, I also request unobstructed passage through Iacon to finish the research that I have conducted here. I would be willing to share a small portion of that research, so that those on your side who are sufficiently able may continue the revitalization work on your own terms. If completed successfully, Cybertron will one day become inhabitable again. Though Autobots and Decepticons differ on many philosophies this is—perhaps—our one mutual goal.”

Shockwave had stated his assessment of their current situation as efficiently as he was able. He had already calculated only a 42.867% chance that those present would accept his proposals. Though Kup was not a warmonger, the other two that had joined him certainly had no problems engaging in both endless and mindless battle, whether it was of any benefit to their ultimate objectives or not. Autobots acquiesced to faulty influence from peers just as often as Decepticons did. The Military Operations Commander stood at a crossroads now. Pending their response, he would either be making arrangements for travel to Iacon, or he would be making arrangements to address their next, inevitable conflict.

Kolkular--Command Hub

The fact that the Autobot designate Hot Rod had interjected himself in to the conversation instead of allowing Kup to respond was curious. Typically, Autobot and Decepticon discourse, on the rare occasions that it occurred, took place between one individual on either side for the entirety of the dialogue. Hot Rod’s impatient intervention was characteristic of what Shockwave understood of the younger Autobot’s behavior. Kup’s ponderous silence was not. Shockwave made an internal note of the irregularity and continued as if nothing at all had occurred. After all, he had received the answer he had wanted, even if additional conditions had been imposed. He would investigate any other cracks in their organizational foundation at a later time.

“Declarative: I am to assume that you must now be the acting command figure. Your terms are acceptable. I will be en route.”

Shockwave disconnected the uplink and stepped away from the primary Kolkular viewscreen, before powering it down altogether. What little energy the fortress was consuming while the power plant was still not functioning at optimum would have to suffice. Other work needed to be accomplished now, if Cybertron was to once again become anything like what it had once been.

With none of the usual pomp that many Decepticon commanders usually observed, Shockwave quietly emerged from Kolkular’s uppermost point of egress and took to the Cybertronian skies, the fortress itself locking down behind him.

Cybertron--Skies en route to Kaon

Brawl’s arrival had surprised Vortex a little. He didn’t figure that the mouthy tank could do a whole lot of sneaking, but somehow he’d managed to get himself on board without Vortex having been the slightest bit aware. Good for him.

As the Obliteration arced over Cybertron, heading south for Kaon once more, Vortex noticed the priority transmission as it came across one of the ship’s main screens.

“Hmm… the cyclops you are trying to reach is not available,” the interrogator joked quietly, before making sure that the signal routed its way to Polyhex and Shockwave’s Tower, on the off chance that it hadn’t done so on its own. It was heavily encrypted, far beyond his skills, and since it was for Shockwave that likely meant that it originated from someone similarly powerful, potentially even Megatron himself.

“Wonder what that’s all about,” Vortex said, looking over at Blast-Off and Brawl as they drew closer to Kaon airspace.

The Obliteration - Approaching Kolkular

Blast-Off couldn't help but chuckle at Vortex's sense of humor. For an interrogator, he certainly did have a wry wit about him sometimes. The space warrior took a glance at the encrypted message that was clearly meant for more important optics then his own before leaning back in his chair. "I'm sure it's nothing to be concerned about. Probably someone just checking up on ol' one-eyed to see how things are going here," Blast-Off reassured Vortex as the Obliteration crossed over the border into Kaon. "Too bad the planet's still in terrible shape with very little promise to suggest that will change any time soon. I'm just glad I don't have to be the one to deliver that bad news, especially if it's to Megatron."

Blast-Off then stared at the view screen in front of him. The landscape of Kaon looked no different than anywhere else on Cybertron, dark and desolate. It was devoid of all life with the exception of a few stray cyber-rats here and there. Only Kolkular, which had now appeared on the horizon just ahead, showed any signs of having been inhabited recently. A few lights shown across the massive fortress city like tiny stars in the night sky. At least one of the generators was still active and supplying some power to certain parts of the capital since Shockwave and the Predacons had traveled here. Hopefully, it would be enough to also power the Obliteration sufficiently.

"Looks like we're here," Blast-Off said to Vortex as they descended towards Kolkular. The space warrior then set the ship's scanners directly at the city-state and soon found what he was looking for. "There's a fuel dock on the north side. We should be able to land there and siphon off the energon we need."

Brawl was tempted, oh was he ever so tempted to open fire on the critters Blast-Off had pointed out. To be frank, we went beyond temptation and pulled the trigger the moment he had spotted the beasts. To Brawl's disappointment - nothing happened.

"What the frag?! I can't slaggin' believe this!" Brawl wailed in frustration, slamming his fist repeatable against the wall next to him before rising up and heading out to the bridge - convinced that Blast-Off and Vortex had just been playing a prank on him.

The Obliteration--Kolkular Exterior

"Tell me about it," Vortex agreed, shuddering at the idea of ever having to tell anything unpleasant to Megatron as he brought the ship down to the north side where Blast-Off had indicated. Delivering any kind of bad information to Megatron was Onslaught's job, as far as the Combaticons were concerned. Vortex was perfectly content with it remaining that way.

Vortex got up from his seat on the bridge and headed out to the storied Decepticon fortress. Brawl was already clearly trigger happy. He didn't know what exactly had set his fellow Combaticon off, or why the weapons systems hadn't worked like he wanted them to, but he knew that it usually didn't take much to make the Combaticon both angry and unproductive. The sooner they got this done, the better.

Lowering one of the vessel's small rampways, Vortex descended from the ship and headed back to one of the Obliteration's fuel ports. It looks like Cybertron was slowly becoming the domain of the cyber-rats now. He couldn't make out any other discernible forms of life. It just felt...wrong. On so many levels.

Accessing one of the ship's exterior control panels, he began to engage the connector that would at least link the ship up with the fortress itself. It would really just be a matter of tapping whatever sweet nectar was flowing from that generator that Shockwave and the Predacons had reactivated.

"Get away from me," Vortex grumbled, looking down at a cyber-rat that was getting a little too close for comfort. They were normally skittish, cowardly little things. Maybe the situation on Cybertron had made them desperate? He wouldn't be surprised. It had made all of them desperate. His surroundings weren't helping with his sense of unease any. Everything seemed too quiet. Dark. And dead.

>>"Alright, connecting now. Looks like fairly substandard energon, but it'll have to do. Let me know when we're topped off,"<< Vortex commed in to Blast-Off on the bridge.

The Obliteration – Bridge

As the Obliteration set down on the north side of the fortress city and Vortex headed out to engage the fuel connectors, Blast-Off turned in his seat to address Brawl who had failed to shoot anything on the journey to Kolkular and thus was in a very foul mood. “Sorry, Brawl, but we didn’t block anything. I don’t know what happened. The ship’s weapons systems checked out earlier. Maybe there wasn’t enough energon to power them and they simply locked up. We’ll know for sure once Vortex gets the fuel port hooked up to the city's power grid.”

The space warrior then turned back to the view screen in front of him once he received the interrogator’s message. >>”No problem, Vortex. I’ll take substandard energon over no energon any cycle just as long as it gets us off this Primus-forsaken planet. Stand by.”<<

Blast-Off carefully monitored the energon intake as the fuel cell levels began to rise higher and higher. It took just over a breem to fill the warship’s tanks, not nearly as long as the space warrior had originally thought it would. That was a relief because the cyber-rat activity outside seemed to be increasing with each passing astrosecond.

>>”Okay, Vortex, the fuel cells are full. Unhook the connector and get back inside ASAP. The ship’s scanners are picking up an unusual amount of cyber-critters in close proximity. Some are quite large and probably hungry. I think they might be following the flow of energon which means they’re heading in your direction, so be on alert.”<<

Blast-Off then looked back over his shoulder at the ground assault specialist. "If you want, Brawl, go try the ship's weapons again. They should be operational now. Needless to say, shoot anything that gets near Vortex or the ship, itself," the space warrior suggested before returning his attention to the navigator's console where he began punching in the coordinates for their return trip to Polyhex. That way, once the interrogator was safely back on board, they could take off as quickly as possible and leave those cyber-beasts behind.

"Shuddup! If it weren't you then it was Onslaught! Damned miser probably blocked the weaponsystems to make sure I didn't waste any energon!" Brawl raged, walking restlessly in a circle behind Blast-Off. This however came to a sudden end as Brawl noticed movement on a screen from the corner of his visor. Cyber rats. Before Blast-Off had even time to finish whatever he was saying, Brawl was gone.

And a moment later, the heavily armed Combaticon was standing on the ramp Vortex had used to move out of the ship, blasting away electron blasts from his gun at the cyber rats below while cackling manically in sheer ecstasy.

Vortex chuckled a little at Blast-Off’s initial response. >>”Copy, that.”<<

Cybertron was a great planet, once. For a long time, combat-specialized mechanoids like the Combaticons could make a fortune off the wars of others. Given how long this war had gone on, Vortex had built up an impressive energy stash for what seemed like forever, and he only kept adding to it. He could have retired rich, maybe getting up there with the likes of Mirage or Grapple, some of Cybertron’s more notable wealth-mongers back in the day. But the times had gotten a lot harder recently, and the interrogator’s reserves had mostly dried up. There was definitely nothing here—on his home planet—that he could tap in to. He had become what he started out as: poor military grunt. It saddened him as much as it frustrated him.

Getting the word from Blast-Off, Vortex set to work disconnecting the Obliteration from Kolkular. No sooner had he completed the disconnect, than several cyber-rats scurried past him and scaled the short distance to the Kolkular output unit and began ingesting the trace amounts of energon left over.

“You sick little—“

He saw that Brawl had come out to join him, blasting away in his characteristic style. He couldn't fault him. He probably needed to let off some steam more than any of them. And they weren't hurting for energon for the time being. As Vortex moved to join his other comrades on the ship, the impact had come from behind, out of nowhere, knocking Vortex forward and slamming him against one of the fortress’ outer walls before he fell to the ground and felt jagged, metallic teeth dig into his back and shoulder plating.

Brawl had been busy blasting at the cyber rats while waiting for Vortex to board the Obliteration when he caught a glimpse of something charging at Vortex and knocking the interrogator down. His gaze turned on the assailant for better look, Brawl recognized a beast that could only be a cannibalizer - a beast with its origins unknown and their bodies made up of bits and pieces of their unfortunate victims. Usually residing in the graveyard-like junkyards of Cybertron, the evacuation of Cybertron had left the whole planet for the cannibalizers to stalk on. Thus, it was no surprise that one of them had been attracted to their current position by energon.

"Hey! Where the slag that came from!" Brawl roared but instead of dwelling on the issue, he fired a low powered blast from his electron gun to catch the creature's attention.

Shocked by sudden surge of electricity through it's body, the cannibalizer stood up and turned away from Vortex to face Brawl - only to be blasted into pieces by Brawl in his two-barreled hovertank form.

"Don't just lie there Vortex! Get moving!" Brawl barked at his teammate, his cannons still smoking from the blast. "Who knows if there's more of those things coming!"

Vortex was acting purely on instinct now, with all of his many vorns of combat training kicking in as soon as he had been attacked. But before he could truly get a good look at what had attacked him, Brawl blasted the thing in to oblivion. Vortex had recognized the thing as a Cannibalizer, but only barely before it had met its end.

“Don’t need to be told twice, that’s for sure,” Vortex said, quickly running up the ramp and hustling back on board the Combaticon vessel. >>”Get us in the air, Blasto!”<< he shouted over the comm, slamming one actuator against the bay door controls as he did so.

With the boarding ramp closed up, Vortex leaned up against the wall, his systems analyzing the damage that the bite had done. It was negligible, thankfully. Nothing a few short breems in a CR chamber couldn’t piece back together.

“If cyber-rats and Cannibalizers are the future of Cybertron, I’m done with this planet.”

The Obliteration – Bridge

Blast-Off watched from the bridge as Brawl stepped outside and began gunning down as many cyber-rats as he could. Hopefully, this would finally appease the brutish soldier and keep him from losing control while around his own comrades. Brawl apparently had so much pent up aggression that he likely could’ve taken out an entire Autobot regiment all by himself. Hopefully, such an extreme would not be necessary as the cyber-critters seemed to be enough to satisfy the overly violent Combaticon.

Then the space warrior spotted something else approaching, something much bigger that was not a mere cyber-rat as he had initially thought. Unfortunately, before Blast-Off could contact Vortex to warn him, a cannabalizer attacked the interrogator from behind and sank its teeth into his armor plating. Thankfully, Brawl wasted no time in eliminating the much larger creature before telling Vortex to get back inside. Once the grey mech had hurried back up the ramp into the safety of the ship, he commed up to the bridge and told the space warrior to take off immediately.

>>“Roger that, Vortex.”<< Blast-Off responded before initiating the Obliteration’s launch sequence. The engines roared to life, powered by the newly acquired energon, as the space warrior entered the return coordinates to Polyhex. A few astroseconds later, the warship lifted off from the side of Kolkular and headed for the Kaon border, leaving the various cyber-beasts behind.

“Frag, that was close,” Blast-Off commented as he turned around to see if Vortex and Brawl had made it up to the bridge yet or not.

The Obliteration--Bridge

"Too close," Vortex said as he walked towards the familiar enclosure of the bridge. Upon entering, he sat down in the chair that he had occupied alongside Blast-Off previously on their way to Kaon. With one hand he carefully prodded the damage that the Cannibalizer had done to his right, rear rotator as he brought up the ship’s scanning systems on his nav-screen. It was good to see the Obliteration fully fueled up again. He couldn’t clearly recall the last time that it had been, substandard energon or no.

“Well, that’s done,” Vortex grumbled, composing a successful mission log entry to be transmitted back to Onslaught and Razorclaw in Polyhex. “Now maybe we get to leave this junkyard of a planet. Leave it to the beasts.”

Vortex leaned back slightly in his chair. That CR chamber was going to feel nice. Mercifully, it didn’t take long before the Combaticon vessel had closed in on the Kaon border, leaving the territory. The sooner they got back to the relative security of their holdings in Polyhex the better, in Vortex's view.

"At least you got some satisfaction, eh Brawl?"

Brawl cocked his head to look at Vortex before bursting into loud laugher, banging his chest with his right fist at the same time. "You bet I did! Did you see the explosion?! The slagger got its remains spread all over Kaon!"

"Though I don't get how it managed to sneak on you!" He added, clearly being bit puzzled over what had happened before he had interfered.
