Bad Bat exists in two universes. In one he is still a free agent, trying to survive the Clan warfare destroying the planet. In the other he is bound to Vox, trapped in a cassette form and vowing to one day be free.

THis gives me hope that he'll be released individually at some point.

Maybe some e-bay dealers might break up a few sets. I would rather pay 50 for Ratbat than 100 for both.

Indeed. I would kind of prefer him to be a cassette player. (I use Music Label Soundwave as my "Classics" version.) But if I an accept Percetor as a scientific exploration vehicle, I could accept Soundwave as something else. But it has to be something that is right for him, especially as such an iconic character. Not just a cheep reuse of a mold originally intended as another existing character whose alt mode difficult to disassociate from him.

And going back to the whole "cassette player" thing... If we aren't supposed to be thinking Soundwave is supposed to be a cassette player, why the heck would they sell him with a minion who turns into a cassette? They should have made this (awesome) Ratbat available separately (which I still hope they do), and made a minion for this Soundwave (could be Ratbat, or could be any of the others) that has some proper interaction with the main figure. Maybe a slide for the microscope?

I guess I just don't care about the tape deck at all. And the cybertronian car that's become sort of his official alt mode since WfC could change again anytime soon in the comics, so...

Also, the cassettes are intented to be compatible with MP Soundwave, never with a deluxe. We all know that.

I just said I don't care about the tape deck either. But a microscope makes no sense (to the extent that any of his modes "make sense").

synapse wrote:Also, the cassettes are intented to be compatible with MP Soundwave, never with a deluxe. We all know that.
Titanium Series Soundwave had a mini-cassete Laserbeak that fit into his chest. So why is it so beyond the pale here? I mean, we're going to get an MP Ratbat, which makes BadBat pointless.

synapse wrote:Well, he was a, uh... cybertronian traffic light? in the first TF episode we ever watched :P
I'd rather KFC make him a traffic light than a Perceptor-style microscope...

You know, it's funny, when I was a kid I never had Soundwave but he was always my favorite. I did have Perceptor and I would often pretend he was Soundwave since they do sort of look similar in bot mode. I even transformed him in such a way (fan mode) that he sort of looked like a micro cassette recorder just like Soundwave.

*shrug* I wouldn't be against a traffic light alt mode. However, I would expect an alt mode in addition to that for the price I'd likely be paying, 3rd party prices and all.

I'm sorry, but a microscope is just too odd a choice for Soundwave and it's a very lazy attempt to bring consumers a CHUG version of such a pivotal character by repainting/remolding Perceptor, whose alt mode was iconic to that specific character.

You have the tank-thing altmode too. It's not like the microscope really looks like a proper microscope either (or that a tape deck or a microscope make any sense for a robot warrior, lest we forget).

megatronus wrote:I'd rather KFC make him a traffic light than a Perceptor-style microscope...

Oh yeah, a traffic light would make much more sense, of course... #-o
(I can't imagine what the reaction to that would be, heh)

Anyway. Why do I care? I already got my not-Magnificus and I'm happy with it, not thinking about getting this one. I just don't think it's such a bad idea, that's all.

I like Soundwave better as a van than a microscope. At least this has a tank mode to fall back on. This figure just isn't for me. I have an agreement over at TFW for that Ratbat, though.

It would have been nice if they were somehow about to make Ratbat interact with the figure. Maybe an attachment that could make it function as wings.

Sign me up for the traffic light as well! I foolishly didn't photograph him at the time I did it, and I don't feel like transforming the figure right now... but I got a passable traffic light out of my Masterpiece Soundwave once upon a time. (So actually... guess I don't need a third party one after all...)

Gauntlet101010 wrote:It would have been nice if they were somehow about to make Ratbat interact with the figure. Maybe an attachment that could make it function as wings.

If they are dead set on this foolhardy idea for a Soundwave from this mold, they should take this Ratbat and release it separately for all of the sensible people in the world, and design a different Ratbat for this figure that becomes a slide for the microscope. (They could do other slides for the other cassette figures, as well.) If they did that, I'd still think this was horrid idea and would never buy it... but I'd at least think it had some cool interactivity that almost justified the lazy choice of alt-mode.

Saw this over on the KFC Fanpage on Facebook but didnt feel it needed its ownb thread as its a custom by XavierCal.
Looks quite cool though and folk have suggested to KFC that this be put out as a 2 pack box set with Mugan Vox? ;)

As Hasbro never did a Deluxe version of WFC Blaster, I would definately pick one of these up, for sure!

Lol, this seems to be a pretty versatile mold, quick somebody make a mock-up of this as Reflector, that could be sold as a three-pack.

I couldn't disagree more. Sonicron was ugly in robot mode, while KFC's Mugan mold provides a beautiful robot mode with, unfortunately, a simplistic transformation with a poor alt mode. But when I see that custom, I can see Blaster, while Sonicron never spoke "Soundwave" to me.

I agree, this mould works way better as Blaster. Certainly prettier than my Device Label version.

It would never work for me, though, as this Blaster would basically be a one-mode wonder. With this custom, yes, it is a decent looking Blaster robot, but I can't imagine it transforms into anything appropriate to the character. (Assuming the custom even still transforms.)

Beauty really doesn't have any relevance here, it's about whether you can see this as the character it's intended to portray.

If you can see this as Blaster, then great. But I don't see it. >:oP

I said beauty, you can use whatever word you prefer.

I definitely see more Blaster in that mold than Soundwave in ugly Sonicron. Absolutely no comparison.

Also, why people seem to accept as a proper Blaster that (voyager FoC) gorilla-Soundwave redeco is beyond me...

I see more of Blaster in the FOC mold than Soundwave, tell you the truth. He's big and blocky, and the size difference between him and WFC Soundwave is reminiscent of the scale difference in G1. But that's just a preference/taste thing. I don't actually own the mold, but if the Takara one went on clearance (it's $45 on BBTS right now, which isn't bad) I might consider it.

So,We've got Three different 3rd party Blasters coming out in 2014?
This KFC version seems like the worst of the lot,in design & size. It's bad enough when Hasbro makes newer versions that are smaller than the original versions. I don't need 3rd parties to follow this example.
