Knock-off that have been truly worth it in your honest opinion

Yeah, starting a thread on this and I know some people fervently stand on one side of the plate or the other, but it's not meant for that. I've just noticed that while I did dip into the grab-bag of KO Toys and whatnot, a vast majority of stuff I got from them has been given away as time went on with only a few being "must keeps", and I'm curious if anyone else is the same way.

Here's what's remained now that the dust has settled:
*Animated Medic. Simply put it just looks awesome and is a good redo of Arcee. The joints feel tight, the possibility is the same, and the blue light-piping works amazingly well with the color scheme. It's kinda funny though because in contrast I've always seen sites more willing to sell Chromia as a stand-alone, but the color scheme on that one just keeps looking odd. In the end she's the one fembot on my shelf and works as good company to Bulkhead.

*Beastbox and Squawktalk. A lot of folks went after the autobot tapes, I went after these two instead and can't regret it. They feel solid, and after researching their real counterparts have to say came out better except for the occasional paint mishap.

*KOLD SG Konvoy (Any version): This one's actually held up actually amazingly well even before customizing...just wish I could say the same about the joints. If you get one of these, get a busted Classics one and swap as many of the joints as you can. When the SG versions came out, the plastic was far better than its previous ones, and even without repaints or the whole "Til all are gone" shindig, it looks and holds up really good. Especially if you want a representation of the character without busting the bank.

Being serious about the plastic improving by the way. When I got ahold of an earlier Nemesis Konvoy for donor light piping, I accidentally decapitated it just pulling the head into position gently, then stripped the screw and had to tear the face off the screw just to get the part I needed. Yeah.

Anyway with that rant out of the way, what's been yours?

Good KO's?

Image

That's funny.

Haha, I jest. I don't own any KO's, however if I were ever to dive into the Knock Off world I'd probably bite on a KO Wildrider, I just don't see myself diving on the prices for an authentic version, and at the same time, don't think I can recreate his hood decal. Plus he'd probably only be inside a Shadow Scyther unit... also something that I wouldn't mind getting my hands on at the appropriate price (KO or not)

Although I don't buy many KOs there are some I've dipped into and liked.

- All four Dinocasettes. This is the ONLY way I'll ever own these molds, so I have to say they're worth it. They're not perfect copies and I'd ump at a chance to own reissues, but these'll do.

- The oddly colored Seekers, especially Suntorm. It seems all the KOs I buy are Seekers! They're great army builders and, for now, the only way to add Sunstorm to your army of Classics Seekers (and I like Sunstorm a lot). I really want to hire someone to make one of these guys into Leader-1 from the Gobots too (tried my hand at it and .... it didn't work out at all). For some reason or another I keep finding myself buying KO Seekers.

- The WSTF Dinibots, Blaster, Shockwave. I hate that there's no place in my collection for the Dinobots guys because they're great. I love the attention to detail on all of them. The only downside is that the translation of the Dinos was too literal ... it makes the joints too weak! Broke Grimlock and had to re-buy. As for Blaster, he's perpetually held by Label Blaster and FP Bruticus is always holding Shockwave!

The Reflectors that I ordered from KOToys are actually better than I expected. They are going to make the perfect Classics Reflector one I de-G2 them! The figures themselves are the only saving grace in that whole sh!tstorm.

While I wouldn't get a KO of a Botcon figure, I don't mind so much when it comes to Asian market exclusives so Wildrider would be on the list to get (especially since I'd be altering the paint anyway) but they also made a G1 version of Botcon G2 Brakedown that caught my eye and and all black Sideswipe that they called Scamper (Metroplex's little car) that I want a couple of to make a Classics version of Movie Barricade and G2 Sideswipe from. Sunstorm's nice and a few of the other recolors of the Seekers but I already have the 8 Hasbro ones on display and they just make a wall of wings already so I pasted on the KOs. I used to have more but I sold off my Botcon, Henkei, and Starscream's Ghost figures last year. I've considered getting a KO City Commander to make a Classics Star Convoy out of and if they ever make the Protector armor I have a idea for the clear red and clear blue Hot Rod figures (if the blue one ever gets KOed as well).

For the most part, I view KOs as raw materials for customization that would make it affordable to make some very specific characters. That being said, I don't consider original 3rd Party creations to be Knock Offs so they weren't factored in.

The only KO's I bought were the seekers. First was the yellow seeker at the store's regular price. He was good but we are aware of the flaws. Face, limp wrist, and the one left foot doesn't fold completely down. A minor problem.

Then the KO going out of business sale. I was able to get Black n Gold Screamer, 1 purple seeker, and orange Sunstorm. Same problem with the face (again, no biggie), but for some reason, everything else with these guys were ok. No limp wrist or even the foot folding problem. I think I may have gotten lucky in this instance and I also paid for these guys at their discounted rate. I think I came out good and only bought them because of the discount, but I am definitely happy about them.

I am passing on the neon colored rain makers. Now if we still get more colors other then neon, I would bite.

There are just a few KOs I would actually buy.

The awesome G1 Overlord KO, the one with starsaber's head and shoulders. It looks awesome and from what I've read of it, it's of a higher quality than the original. It's also rarer and more expensive.

Then there is this awesome RM Optimus Primal done up to look like King Kong from the Peter Jackson remake, I'm still angry that I haven't found it since I first saw it years ago.

Thent here is that Animated Starscream done up in ROTF tattoos, which I missed due to being broke at the time it showed up and then forgetting to buy it.

I'll go with the KO Headmaster 10 pack and the recent KO Dino-cassettes, all of which I purchased and were very pleased with. I'm okay with having KO's of these because I'm not really interested enough in any of these to pay the price the originals command, but they're a nice novelty for the KO price.

It's a bit on the floppy side, but I <3 my KOLD blue Konvoy version of the classics Prime mold.

The CHMS Sunstorm is also pretty nice, it's pretty remarkable how much better the CHMS classics seekers are than the previous attempt at KO seeker KOs.

are we talking 3rd party in general or just KO's?

for the record, i do my homework on anything im unsure of before i even consider spending the money. especially due to price these things command.. which is something i had to get over quick. you like it, want it, got the dough, no point in complaining about the price.

anyways, i have a handful of chms seeker KO's: yellow sunstorm, rainmakers, and air warriors(x3). and im actually so happy with them that ive got a few more on the way: orange sunstorm, black/gold death starscream, and a black chrome starscream. honestly id like three more air warriors too.. but when i spend to much money on comics and tfs the bank calls to ask where my mortgage payment is.. jerks..

and for original 3rd party stuff, i have a warbot defender. which is an amazing piece of robot. ive also got some knight morpher choochoo primes on the way, and im buying a hercules next month.

Image

they look good and my problems with them have been minimal. i think theyre all worth it.

Im a big supporter of KOs. I have too many high quality KO's to name, mostly classics stuff though. I like CHMS because they bring the good repaints to the people out there who are less fortunate with their income. Just because I go to Botcons and spend a ton of money with online retailers, doesnt mean Im a greedy collector that wants to have the most exclusive collection in the world all to myself. KO's give people the chance to own really cool figures at fair prices. And the also give us a chance to own some repaints Hasbro will never make like the Rainmakers.

Talk about a necropost. This thing's just a few months shy of being a year old.

And yet my feelings are still the same. Dinocasettes, CHMS Seekers ... that's it.

I don't know if I've just been lucky but my Knockoffs have been awesome, no major issues. Here are a few. I admit that I don't have many more KOs than these other than a hanfull of seekers and one or two others but so far so good.

odd how some people who dont like kos are making posts here....

If you want real good kos that have been worth it and have been decent quality then it these

chms ko seekers - thrust dirge ramjet skywarp thundercracker starscream and all the ghost variations.

Chms Ko Battle tanker - almost idential to the original

chms punch/counterpunch

chms shattered glass prime

HALF AND HALFS

Chms Ko city commanders - any = this is obviously a hit and miss. There great but the shoulder pads just never stay in

chms shattered glass hotrod - mine was alright but some people say the goatie isnt complete or that his arms pop off, easy fix - varnish the ball joint

chms wildrider - again same issues above

generally speaking if its a chms product its alright. Anything else and your kinda risking it alittle

I've been darn happy with all my chms seekers, as well as my TFA Arcee clones.

As far as the seekers, I got several at the same time I got takara versions of the mold, and the chms versions were all better fitting with tighter joints.

Go figure.

If you mean me, I don't like KOs in general (and especially 3rd party KOs), but that doesn't mean I'm fervently anti-KO.

There's a difference in saying "Yeah, I don't think it's that great, but I got it anyway" and "this sucks and I'll never, EVER buy it; damn it and everyone who buys it all to Hell!"

btw just so were all clear on this - ALL the sg ko primes are ALL done by chms who kotoys owner happens to be a part of. Even the newer model is still a chms product its just kotoys mainly sells on taotao now because of all the hasbro bs they got

The KO I got the most worth out of was a bargain bin bootleg of one of the Deluxe Insecticons. It broke within a day. Its worth comes from the fact that it taught me to never buy KOs again.
