Actually, I think this looks a lot like their G1 toy, with perhaps some added articulation.

That's kind of what I mean though. Hastak could produce this figure easily if they used the figure in your pic as a basis. Instead we have to wait and hope a 3rd tackles the character in a way that does it justice. Just sorta sad.

That extra train car looks like it's some kind of cargo storage thing. That perhaps stores coal.

It's the coal hopper. All steam locomotives needed coal storage somewhere. It's what fed the fire under the boiler that created the steam. #TrainGeekToo

I said it was a train car with coal in it and I already knew it's purpose. I've watched enough old Western movies where they showed guys with shovels loading coal in the train furnance.

Yeah, but it's not an ordinary train car. All steam locomotives need some sort of coal hopper to feed the boiler. If it is a separate car, like appears in this drawing, it is called the tender. (It took me a bit to remember that it is called a tender.)
The way you phrased your original post, it appeared you did not know what it was. The train geek in me filled in the blanks there.
Tender on a steam locomotive:
Typical coal hopper (for moving bulk amounts of coal across the country)

Agreed. It seems like something weird to fixate on. I was just pointing out that the tender is a necessary part of the old steam locomotives. It makes sense to include it as part of the vehicle mode. I have no idea why it would appear to separate from the locomotive. I don't get that feeling from looking at the picture.
Plus, I just like talking about trains. And planes. And automobiles for that matter.

Looking at the picture i would assume the back end of the train will be his legs ?

Can't tell where much goes from looking at that picture.
Don't like the Coal hopper. It means were getting a short small Locomotive instead of a full Voyager scaled one. The locomotive plus coal hopper will be a voyager scaled alt mode combined.
Still hoping the Coal hopper is a detachable piece. Hoping it's not a part of the shuttle and robot mode. Wouldn't mind if the Coal hopper formed armor pieces for the robot mode like boots, forearms, weapons and shield. Think it would be cool if the coal hopper armor turned a voyager robot into a Ultra scale robot mode.
Another idea for the detachable Coal hopper is for it to form the lift off base platform for the shuttle mode.

Um...what? There is no indication that the pieces separate. The tender is a part of the locomotive (except in rare cases of really small switching locomotives where the coal hopper is attached directly to the locomotive). It does not have to detach. It can remain connected to produce the voyager scale you are begging for. Why are you fixated so much on disconnecting the hopper? Why are you assuming that it will disconnect and not be a part of the figure's transformation (or the shuttle, if I am inferring correctly)? This is borderline trollish behavior, in my estimation. I tried having fun with it, but you do not appear to be getting the point.

Y'know what? I'm done with this discussion. Back to talking about the picture.
This Astrotrain looks pretty cool. It looks to keep many of the cues from G1 Astrotrain, but with better articulation, which is what we could expect from 3Ps today. The shuttle mode actually looks the weakest of the three. It's a little boxy around where the bay doors would be. I'd guess this has to do with making the locomotive mode look good, though either the shuttle "bay" would be on the bottom of the locomotive or they could use the boiler of the locomotive to create the rounded bay look. At any rate, though I am satisfied with Classics Astrotrain, I will keep an eye on this one. Who knows? If it's cheap enough, I'd probably bite. I love me some trains, and this looks better to me with the tender than the naked locomotive of G1.
