Macross/Robotech

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

I think they are the same design as the Aoshima, but are better in most every way. Tabs together better, nicer pain, better use of diecast etc.

I've heard that Maia's Alpha was produced in the same factory as the Toynami Beta fighters, which are supposed to be pretty top notch.

I don't know but for $69.99 I wouldn't take the chance. If you want a good Alpha and Beta go for one of the CMS corps vehicles.

Thanks for the advice. I'm still on the fence as to what Alpha I'll end up getting... :-?

None of them seem perfect, so I guess I'll need to see what's most important to me.

I just started watching the original robotech series a few months back (in fact, I believe you were the one who recommended these shows to me, Jesterhead), and it quickly became one of my absolute favorite shows, as well as my number 1 anime. I don't own any of the models or anything yet, but I've got my eye on the masterpiece version of Max Sterling's veretech fighter.

Awesome stuff! Glad you are enjoying it! Soon you'll go full Macross! Once you go Macross, you don't turn back!

If the Veritech is made by Yamato, I can't recommend it enough. Any Yamato V2 Valkyrie/Veritech is well worth the price.

BBTS was forced by Harmony Gold to drop any non Toynami Macross toys due to copyright issues, and that Bandai's and Yamamoto's figures were out selling anything Toynami put out.

Yea we had a great thread going on, I believe we had over 100 pages (mostly due to very heavy pic content). I have always been a fan of Robotech, and then got into the Macross world once I learned of it's exsistance. I haven't collected any Macross Valks since 2008 or 2009 (got too expensive to do Transformers and Macross). My collection is as fallows.

Yamato 1/48th Scale Macross and Macross "Do You Remember Love":
Hikaru Super VF-1S Skull Leader
Milia Super VF-1J
Max Super VF-1J
Hikaru VF-1J
Stealth Super VF-1J
Cannon Fodder VF-1A
Low Visability II "Vietnam" VF-1A
Angel Birds VF-1A

Yamato 1/60th Scale Macross Zero:
VF-0S Skull Leader
VF-0A and QF-2200D-B Ghost Booster
SV-51r Ivanov

Yamato 1/60th Scale Macross Plus:
YF-19
25th Anniversary YF-19

Yamato 1/60th scale Macross: (Older non perfect transformation)
Hikaru VF-1A DYRL
Milia Super VF-1J

Yamato 1/72nd Scale Macross Plus: (Older 2001 editions)
VF-11B
VF-11B Fast Pack
YF-22
YF-22 Fast Pack
VF-19A
YF-19

I also have a few other smaller scale stuff from Revoltech and Banpresto as well as a few of the 1/100th scale Valks that came out a few years ago.

Which one? :P I have 5 different ones. Miria was always my fav character, it might have to do with red being my fav color but it also might have to do with her being hot. :-$

I almost broke down a year or so ago to buy the Miria VF-22 from Macross Seven, but alas I didn't because I promised the wife I wouldn't get back into Macross.

I've nearly broken down several times this week and ordered a VF-22 haha. Now I just need her red VF-17 to come out and us Millia fans will be set!

I really want to get all of her vehicles in 1/60. Though, so far all I have is her Queadluun Rau.

Yea I had several opportunities to purchase one of her Quead's, but for some reason I never pulled the trigger on it. Nothing beats that 1/48th Super VF-1J, I am also kicking myself for never getting the new 1/60th version when they came out with it. I have the older 2002ish 1/60th version but it is just not the same......

I was lucky enough to get mine for 32.00 bucks USD. At that price, it's a great toy.

I'm dying to get my hands on the Yamato V2 1J Millia, but they are pretty hard to find now a days.I'm tempted to go for the 1/48, but I'm a stickler for scale and like to have all my 'ducks in a row'. :P

Yea scale can be a big thing when you have them all lined up, I like the bigger 1/48th and Plus and Zero 1/60th. That's why I kind of regret getting the mostly metal 1/72nd Yamato releases for Macross Plus, although the VF-11B was a really good release. The YF-21 however was a big BIG disappointment. They had the first release where the top looked good but the bottom was really chunky to accommodate the legs. Then they came out with a better more sleeker fast pack version which was way less chunky. But with both of the figures it couldn't stand worth anything in Gerwalk mode which is my fav mode.

For the new Macross Frontier figures by Bandai, I stayed away from them because I didn't know how they were going to size up with the rest of the Yamato stuff I had.

Pretty good dude! I have been on kind of a big hiatus since really Oct 2008. My fiance and I ended up moving back to Albuquerque from Seattle in 2009. We bought a house last June and also got married in October. Going to Botcon 2011 kind of "resparked" Transformers and the forums for me, and so here I am! Other than that just doing a ton of work, how about yourself?

I've been doing good. With the exception of the Hi-Metal VF-1S Strike I'm "Done" with Macross as I literally have all the Valks I want. I think I even have the YF-21 you were talking about but never opened it.

So are those the regular releases or the VF100's? I believe the VF100's are 1/100 scale and fit in with the Toynami's stuff?

Also where is a good place to pick these up now and days? I use to always get them from BBTS or Ebay.

And I love all of the improvements they do on the figures. I got the first release of the YF-19, VF-0S and SV-51r and in pure Yamato style, they all have some issues that they fix in a rerelease. The YF-19 wasn't too bad, the VF-0 has some loose limb issues but the SV-51r had terrible floppy wings.

I have the regular released Chogokin DX ones.

No experience with the VF100s, but I think you are correct in assuming they are 1/100.

I usually get my Macross swag from angolz.com. They are based in Hong Kong, but have good shipping rates, and an impressive selection. I think they are mostly sold out of VF-25s though. You might find some Tornado variants still though.

Overall they are quite nice, and would recommend them if the impending release of the 2nd versions wasn't just around the corner.

Many people have had concerns and issues over the quality of them, but I haven't had one QC issue after owning them for close to two years. None of my paint applications have scratched off during transformation, and every joint is tight and in one piece.

Design wise, they could have used a little bit more work. Robot and fighter mode are both great, but the gerwalk is pretty bad, if not useless. The 27 is better than the 25 in this mode, but nowhere near as nice as the Yamatos.

For the first scale toys of the Frontier valks, I'd say they did a very good job. The second releases of them should tidy up all the issues. Clearly Bandai learned a lot with the 27 and 29.

EDIT: Actually, I had one QC issue with the VF25R when the panel on the robots calf popped off during the first transformation. Nothing broken, just a missed dot of glue. A very easy fix with a tube of CA glue.

The 1/100 scale Valks from Macross Frontier were more parts former than anything. There were a TON of parts to swap.

Yea I hear you have to remove a lot of parts between transformations, it kind of seems like whats the point of that? Especially for the asking price on them.

So what is everyone's fav Valk type? I still have to say the YF/VF-19 is my favorite.

So what is everyone's fav Valk type? I still have to say the YF/VF-19 is my favorite.

Do you remember mine? Here's a hint there's a group shot in the old thread. Can we reopen it?

Oh I forgot to mention something. We just had a really successful comic convention here in Albuquerque a few weeks ago called ACE (looks like they are going to make it annual), but anyways they had a Robotech panel. Tommy Yune did it and he was the director for Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles. He showed us that they are working on a second Shadow Chronicle as well as something new altogether. He also confirmed that the Robotech Live Action Movie is still alive and in the works.
