Macross/Robotech

Are there any Macross fans out there?

I was introduced to the franchise through Macross Frontier earlier this year and am currently going back and watching all of the series/movies (I think I'll skip Macross 7 though...). Along side my transformers I know have a few Valkyries from Bandai and Yamato.

Any other collectors of Macross toys?

I'm a Macross fan, though specifically of SDF Macross. I've watched other subsequent Macross work but to be honest, nothing compares to the original for me.

The only Macross toys I have are a Revoltech VF-1J and the recently released VF Hi-Metal VF-1J Hikaru Ichijo custom, which is a great figure.

Picked up the 1/100 VF-1S with the armour and Max and Miria's VF-1J's a while back. They're not as posable as the Revoltech, but they look pretty sweet sitting on my desk.

Aside from the original Macross/Robotech series, I haven't had much experience with the series. I watched Macross Plus, but it never really turned me on.

PS Halifax Rules!

If you are serious about watching thru Macross, don't skip Macross 7.

It isn't the best out there, and it's easy to dismiss if all you have seen is images of Fire Bomber. but it is a decent watch, and there are elements in there that help expand the full reach of the Macross universe.

Watching Macross (and Southern Cross, and Mospeda) subbed has kinda ruined Robotech for me, the original stories are way better, but I'll still watch if the mood strikes me. So far I've only watched Plus and Zero in addition to the main series, but I'll get around to the rest at some point.

No toys at the moment (though I did have a Valkyrie and one of the Hover tanks from Southern Cross), but plenty of models:

I've also got a couple little Zentradi ships, as well as the SDF-1, that I haven't built yet, along with an SV-51 that's seen better days, and a VF-0 that needs built.

I always wanted a hovertank but the ones I have seen from the Matchbox line have either been in bad condition or way over priced for what I would pay.

I was lucky enough to get a Invid Shock Trooper when a few Robotech pieces were re-released in the Exosquad line. As it came without a pilot, I picked up a loose Dana Sterling a local store had on display to keep in the cockpit.

Oh yeah! I still have a Scout and a Shock Trooper (Not Robotech original, but from ExoSquad) in a box somewhere....

I snaged a Scout from that line as well, it's a nifty piece but pails against the Shocktrooper.

Some nice looking models Skyfire77! I'm not gonna lie, and say I'm jealous!

I've been contemplating pre-ordering the Bandai Chogokin DX Konig Monster. Anyone else planning on getting this badboy?

I have to make a confession here: I never liked the show but I truly loved the VF's.

I've been meaning to get one recently, but there are so many, and so expensive its hard to actually decide on one. I had a couple pre-ordered on BBTs a couple years ago, but the pre-ordered never arrived. they kept changing arrival dates until I canceled them.

I don't believe they ever arrived, and now BBTS's Macross section seems to have thinned out considerably.

The closest I have to owning a VF was the Happywell Variable fighter KO. which isn't actually all that bad. Mostly silver and gray, he's actually pretty tall, and features some die cast joints.

BBTS had a monster sale, something like 40% off all imported Macross stuff. I found out a few hours too late to order my much desired VF-1J Milia custom valk... :-(

Never new that. I was looking at the 1/55 VF-1S with super and strike Parts for a while hoping it would go on sale, but it never did. Now there's only a couple of Revoltech Valks there.

Thanks guys. I spent years building planes and sf kits, but I'm more into customizing TFs now, luckily the skills serve me in both. :KREMZEEK:

Konig Monster you say? That's awesome, I always wanted one... *checks BBTS* SWEET ZOMBIE JESUS! $240?! That's way out of my range!

There is a non "SP" version for around 200, if you dont care about getting the display stand and a Sheryl "monster girl" decal on the nose. My only complaint is that it is 1/100 scale, so It will look silly next to my VF-25s and VF-27. :-(

I have the whole series on DVD, Macross Plus, and used to own a couple of the 80's movies on DVD.
toys, I have to admit I don't have that many, a superdeformed Valkyrie, gerwalker mode action figure I ended up giving to my brother (a more rabid Macross fan) and some mini Lisa in a swimsuit figure that came out of a machine somewhere's. I love the series, just never really collcted many of the toys, my collecion tends to be more TF's Gundmns, Evangelion figures, and a shrine of Cammy White figures to chase away any girlfriends

My brother though, he's got tons of valkyries, a scale model of the SDF Macross itself, DVD's comics, etc etc

I'm a huge fan of Robotech/Macross. Somewhere on here is a rather large thread that got closed a few years ago that has a ton of pics from mine and a few others collections. I've had to scale back considerably on my Valkyrie buying due to cost and space but I will be getting one of those 1/100 Hi-Metal figures. BBTS was forced by Harmony Gold to drop any non Toynami Macross toys due to copyright issues, and that Bandai's and Yamamoto's figures were out selling anything Toynami put out.

Yeah, that was such a shame. At least buying from out of country is usually cheaper anyway...

What killed me was I got the e-mail the week the Hi-Metal VF-1J was supposed to come out.

So recently I've been enjoying Robotech: The Next Generation.

I have my eye on Toynami's Maia Sterling Alpha fighter from Shadow Chronicles. Now, I've heard plenty of hatred toward the Toynami 'Masterpiece" line, but with the recall and improvements on Maia's Alpha, is it worth the purchase?

BBTS has it for $69.99 which I'll gladly pay if the QA issues have been dealt with after the recall.

Anyone have experience of opinions of this toy?

If these are the same molds as the Ashomia Mospeada Legioss then avoid it at all costs. Even if it isn't I wouldn't recommend spending $69.99 on a chance.

I think they are the same design as the Aoshima, but are better in most every way. Tabs together better, nicer pain, better use of diecast etc.

I've heard that Maia's Alpha was produced in the same factory as the Toynami Beta fighters, which are supposed to be pretty top notch.
