To stop buying anything other then Gi Joe's and similier products. that's what I had to do, I figured now that have most of the Marvel/Dc/TF/etc that I want, I'm going to focus on colelcting military themed toys. I've always wanted to gather an army of
gi joe's and other figures that fit in with them.
the thing about it is, I have at least one of almost every character I want from many different brands. that being said, when it comes to gi joe's I don't really care who the character is supposed to be. as far as I'm concerend, the name doesn't really matter if I buy them to build an army which will then find it's way on my shelf. alhouh I still remember the names of most my offical gi joe's but with the generec ones they either didn't have names on the package or I forgot the names already...
anyway, I guess all that matters is that I collect what most interest me. but I wonder who else may have stopped collecting something they used to enjoy in favor of something else they can afford to buy more often... of course, i enjoy the military themed figures more now then I ever did before.

I think this happens to a lot of people, but I can count myself as someone who's habits changed mid-course. Ignoring my childhood wants, I'll just focus on teens years to now. I've stopped picking up the various McFarlane figures (Spawn, Movie Maniacs, etc) and Living Dead Dolls. Also gave up Magic the Gathering after about 10 years. I still pick up the occasional super hero (mainly Batman-based, but also other DC and Marvel characters), some Lego sets, various anime product (Evangelion and the random mech or shoujo), and of course Transformers.

The issue is simply that I have neither unlimited funds nor space. I'm still waiting for the day when I can cut down even more and focus my collection but then something new comes about that becomes a must get. I'm really not that reserved although I should be. Other than a lack of funding, the only thing that might make me change habits is when I organize my displays and plan to optimize as much as possible - this will hopefully have me rethink the various items I keep around or purchase because I would like a spectacular display that has a sense of unity to it.

Good luck in your new collecting habits. If you can impart any valuable advice, be sure to chime back in.
