So, Cutthroat... I'm excited to get this guy!

You assume correctly. However for reasons that even I cannot articulate clearly and concisely, I strongly dislike TFC.

I'm not a comic book reader, but even if I was, I couldn't get into Shattered Glass. It just seems more like a lame Funpub marketing scheme to sell lazy repaints. And now the 3rd parties are catching on to this money grabbing scam. What really makes a repaint Shattered Glass ? Does it have to have appeared in the comic in those colors ? Or is any reverse repaint considered Shattered Glass ? I could easily see someone getting the cloud repaints of Roadbuster and Whirl along with the Mech Ideas TFcon repaints to make Shattered Glass wreckers.

I admit though some of them make great generic Cybertronian characters. I bought the red drift just for fun.

i probably dont dislike SG as much as you, but my opinion is pretty close to yours.

the only SG ive gotten really pumped about is the SG laser prime (cause it looks amazing with the appropriate battle tanker. and the SG beast wars predacons, which dont really have any toys. but im trying to make that a reality..

Four of them have toys.

SG Dinobot is the Universe Dinobot toy. http://www.tfu.info/2009/Predacon/TFUDi ... inobot.htm

SG Scorponok is the Botcon 1999 Sandstorm toy. http://www.tfu.info/1999/Predacon/Sands ... dstorm.htm

SG Terrorsaur is the Beast Wars Lazorbeak toy. http://www.tfu.info/1997/Predacon/Lazor ... orbeak.htm

SG Tarantulas is the Fox Kids Transmetal Tarantulas toy. http://www.tfu.info/1999/Predacon/FKTMT ... ntulas.htm

Only Megatron and Waspinator don't have toys.

right on all accounts. however i think some leeway should be given to waspinator. while the art depicts him as definitely being pre-transmetal, the fox kids transmetal waspy has a color scheme very close his SG counterpar. which is the route i plan to go. as for megatron, i plan to pay a good painter to SG up a cybertron jungle planet megatron (just assuming thats the cheapest version of that megs).

You like G2, right? Well, can't you say the same thing about G2 as you do about SG - just a lazy attempt to sell repaints?

Whoa, where did all this TFC hate come from?

Out of the 4 combiners they've made so far (not counting the Star Cats as they were working on commission for a kid's toys company) Hercules is absolutely amazing, quite possibly the perfect G1 Devastator (and kickstarted the 3P combiner craze to boot) Uranos has his flaws but is pretty damn good (I don't like the look of him much but that could very well change if I had him in hand) Ares is quite a divisive figure, but there's no doubt he's very well engineered, and Prometheus isn't even finished yet. I don't really see there's that much to hate about TFC. Ares dilemna aside (we are not going through that mess again) I don't think they've ever made anything that was objectively bad (as in badly engineered, poor quality etc- we're keeping aesthetics and personal taste out of this). They do have a very unique style to them (quite UT with lots of pipes, vents, greebles and fun little gimmicks) but I don't think they've ever made something fundamentally awful (like some of Impossible Toys' early stuff for example).

Anyway, I'm not sure I care enough about SG to buy this (I do like SG but I wouldn't make a whole collection around it) but he does look nice in those colours, and that beast mode is pretty clever.

Well the difference between G2 and SG lines would be both its purpose and its price. G2 was an attempt to resell old molds with flashy decos at retail prices. SG was an attempt to sucker collectors into buying really expensive repaints on the basis of a fan made continuity. I dont care about an "alternate universe". It seems to be more suitable for a superhero or star trek storyline than for transformers. Way too comic booky for me. And the cloud line is the Japanese version of SG. Expect to see more cloud stuff for future molds. Im surprised it didnt trickle down to the deluxe molds.

Shattered Glass is Shattered glass. I have as much interest in that as I do the Prime toyline. Which is to say almost none. Except when I do. If it gives me a deco I like I'll buy it.

That said, it annoys me when 3rd party companies do it when there's no fictional basis for it. A perfect example is KFC's Slamdance and Squawkbox. I have a small cassette collection, so I would have bought both, but I only want official characters in official colours. Now that official material has contradicted them their releases are useless to me and it's VERY unlikely they'll go back to them just to please very niche collectors. And that's kinda how I see all 3rd party GS releases. Maybe you'll get something that looks kinda cool, but it's pretty easy to be overruled by official material later on.

As for Shattered Glass just existing, well, I like alternate reality takes so I don't mind it. It's pretty obvious that FunPub has made it purely to give them greater freedom to make characters people would want without Hasbro overriding them later on (which happened with Ratchet, Ironhide, and a few Seekers). Maybe it's crass marketing at work, but you can say that about the entire Transformers franchise. That's the entire point of the TF media machine. To sell toys. Can't blame FunPub for trying to find a way to do that.

As for how all that relates to this release ... well, if they make it like what's already been shown I can see the point, but I don't really care enopugh to own it.

Hey, I'm a sci-fi fan. Evil universes are a golden standard. I enjoy it in my Transformers. Honestly, half the line are just repurposed repaints that were otherwise useless. I don't care about 2007 movie Armorhide Target exclusive, but when they made that toy into an evil Huffer who is always happy, he became fun!

I guess maybe im not so keen on the SG concept because my first exposure to anything similar was Spiderman vs Venom which I thought was silly. Im cool with nemesis prime as an evil clone being he was a clone of the autobot leader. But extending evil (and good) clones to entire armies seems a bit excessive.

I suggest you go watch the original Star Trek episode called "Mirror, Mirror", where Kirk and a few crew members accidentally get sent to an evil alternate universe where their ship is spends time conquering alien races, all the crew are evil, and they have to survive and get back home. This was the direct inspiration for the Shattered Glass story.

Trek writers have returned to this universe several times, evil Enterprise and Deep Space Nine crews in many episodes.

Both of mine came without instructions just the figure in the boxes. Also there was no outer shipping box either just the boxes the figures are in taped together and the shipping label slapped on it so it got banged up somewhat during shipping, fortunately the figures survived intact. I'm sorta disappointed with the way Maketoys decided to ship their exclusive figures out. Consider the price we pay for them, they can at least package them well for shipping.

That's pretty awful and downright unacceptable. These companies know they're catering to collectors who care about this stuff, and should act accordingly.
