MASTERPIECE 17 , 18 & 19 ISSUE.

Postby Optprimus » Sat Jan 16, 2016 11:01 pm

Was kinda cleaning up my masterpiece collection and realised that the joint/screw? On the elbow Are like corroding or something..... same goes for my smokescreen & prowl it's a minor nitpick but if there's a way to solve it it would be much appreciated. I was surprised considering I take really good care of my transformers and usually after I buy em, they go straight to the display case... are any of you guys facing the same issue? Furthermore, for some reason my streak won't hold his gun on his right hand would appreciate a quick reply.... thanks!

That would usually only be an issue if your item were a KO, normally.
Sometimes cheaper screw are used to cut some corners.
However for that to happen to a legit modern MP is odd.
I don't have much more than that for you but good luck on your info search.

Back then, MP-05 had also a similar symptoms aka "Cosmic Rust" in his feet. To get rid of that you can use a cotton bud and dub it with Johnsons/Johnsons Glow metal polish shine or a similar product.

Triklops also has a point that some KO also have the prone to oxidation rivets.

Thanks for the advice! And Nope I don't collect KO transformers. Any recommendations on what kind of metal polisher to be used on a transformers figure?

I used GLO metal polish by Johnson's and Johnson's. I used it on MP-05 Megatron's "cosmic rust" infection. Also used it on my G1 Doubledealer screws and PMOP.The plastics remained safe btw.

It seems that for both tf lines, MP-05 and the 1988 Hb line, the feet and screws are prone to rusting.

Oh alright I'll have a look at around my area if they sell those. Thanks for the quick reply BTW! One quick qn if u don't mind me asking, when I apply it does that mean every month or so I'll have to keep on polishing it and after constant polishing would it damage my screws?

Only if the oxidation appears (i.e. rust). If not, don't because, the metal weakens if constant application of the oxidizer. You can also buy those moisture absorber packets and put it in your box (if you keep them there) or in your display case.

Nothing on the elbows for mine but my Smokescreen also has an issue holding his gun in the right hand. This issue came to light months after I got him.

About the moisture absorber packets , is it affective if I were to put it in my display case?

Found out that I've already got a few metal polishers which are WD-40, Brasso and autosol. Are any one these good for use on transformers figures? :-?

WD-40 is very temporary as a polish and is primarily a lubricant. It will wipe off and then things will just look as they were before.

Brasso is a great polish but I can see it eating plastic and/or paint. I don't know that for sure, mind you, so you may want to test things out on a junker/etc before using it. Alternately, push the pin out, polish it, and re-insert once dry.

Not familiar with Autosol, so can't provide any advice on that one.

The product I used won't eat through plastic. That I can assure. WD40 is good for loosening tight screws etc.

Just now noticed your mention of GLO. I'll look into that, thanks! Definitely got some stuff that could use a polish on my shelves.
