Mega Man in general

Postby Duke of Luns » Fri May 18, 2007 6:31 pm

Last weekend I got the Mega Man X Collection(awsome 8) ), and I'm thinking about "completing" the collection this weekend with X7 and X8. Before I do though, I'm wondering, are they better than X6? And where does Commmand Mission fit in(though that's not on the agenda right now).

X6, which I'm working on beating, is the worst Mega Man game I've ever played. It's hard, has bad level design, and it's cheap.

So, once my question's are taken care of, how bout a Mega Man discussion? What's your favorite game, bosses, etc. I've only played the Mega Man Collection and X Collection, and the 1 and 2 on Gameboy.

My favorite bosses(design or name wise) are Squid Addler, Crush Crawfish, Cyber Peacock, the turtle guy from X6, and Wire Sponge from the X series.

From the original series I like Gyro Man, Centaur Man, Cut Man, , and last but certainly not least Bass and Treble from the original series(from memory anyway).

My fave original series game is Mega Man 7, though I'll admit that X1-3 blow it away. Not sure what my favorite X game is yet, since I've only beat them once each(X4 twice though), but my least favorite is X6 by far.

Finally, where do you think they started scraping for ideas for bosses? I think the original series was pretty good overall, but I felt X4 had some of the worst boss names, and they were uninspired. X5 and X6 have some really cool designs, but the bosses are easy, and the names aren't that great.

So, discuss away  .

Avoid X7 like the plague. They experimented with a 3D engine and it FAILED MISERABLY.

X8 returns to the 2D glory of the series. Most of the stages are great. I personally love it.

Anyway, I definitely like Protoman the best. He's the mysterious badass. What's not to like?

Favorite bosses: Elecman, Shadowman, Quickman, and Turboman.

My favorite game is Anniversary Collection. Ha, I cheated the system!

X8 was always my favorite, being the only one I could beat without cheating.

I'm still hoping for X9.Though according to Lumine, Sigma is gone, and not coming back.

Also, I have something all MMX fans should check out.

I only ever played the GBA games that featured Zero. I didn't understood much of the story line but thankfully I had a friend that could explain it all for me.
But then again, I suck at platformers.

I also almost have the entire x series. And like many have said before. Avoid X7.

I don't really know who my fvorite bosses would be. I think Burn Rooster, final form of Lumine, Spark Mandrill, Web spider, and heatman. I'm not entirely in to the original series.

Also the worst boss of all time is Flame Hyenard. Dear god was he annoying. He just keeeps shouting very high pitched phrases during the battle.

But there should be an X9. Lumine did SOMTHING to Axl that should warrent another part of the series. Plus there is no true connection to Megaman zero

X7's that bad? I plan on getting it though, if only for the storyline. It's gotta be better than X6. ANYTHING has to be better than that.

So I beat the 8 bosses, and I go to the first of the final stages. My first obstacle? A spike wall that's too high to jump. I manage to overcome it using the ice block, and what's next? ANOTHER STUPID SPIKE WALL THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO GET THROUGH!!!!!!!!

You NEED the jumper item according to the FAQ(with X, who
I'm using), which is somewhere in the ice stage, and when I went back, the path to all the reploids I could rescue that I found earlier was blocked. There's an above path that I can't jump high enough to get to with X. I haven't really used Zero, and he has low health, so getting to that spot is a no-no, since there are stupid Virus thingies that appear and you cannot avoid or hurt and get hurt no matter what.

Oh, and an example of bad level design: There are areas("secret" technicly) you cannot get out of if you don't have the right item to get across a pit(Metal Shark's stage, :-x :-x , horrible, frustrating stage). Oh, and exploring is not always the best thing. I got to the secondary boss on one board, but I couldn't hurt him cause I didn't have the weapon, and my only recourse was to lose all my lives and go to level select. Oh one more thing, some reploids that need rescueing you have to die in order to get! And in Blaze Heatnix's board, the screen scrolls up, and it's nigh impossible to rescue a reploid before he becomes infected.

I think I'm gonna use the Ultimate Armor cheat. I hate cheating, but oh my gosh, I am REALLY starting to get ticked off at X6 :-x . I know I'm ranting, but X6, oh my, I really, really dislike this game. I will say this: avoid it if you care nill about the storyline!

Rant ended.

Well, transitions are rare.

There was no explanation of why all of the original characters are dead in the X series. Most of us fans just say that Zero killed everybody.

The Zero series does a slightly better job, but they skipped whole wars that probably could've been made into games or at least described.

In ZX, the only real reason that Zero is gone is because he died in Zero 4. Now there's a bunch of humans pretending to be reploids running around for NO APPARENT REASON. They must hate reploids or something.

And of course, we don't even know if Legends is part of the main continuity or not.

MMX will always be my favorite Mega Man game. It was literally perfect. All the levels were fairly challanging yet fun. Maverick Hunter X only helped improve it with the 3D graphics and new storyline with Vile as a playable character. The original MM games I never really cared for to be honest. They were super challanging and just weren't that much fun.

MegaMan2 on the NES was my first MM game and I still love it to this day. I also love X2.

And the first Game Boy game sucked, 2-5 were much better. I have to admit though the fifth GB game is my fave.

MegaMan Classic takes place in 200X, but that was retconned into 20XX.

MegaMan X takes place in 21XX, while Command mission takes place in 22XX.

MegaMan Zero takes place in 23XX.

As for Legends, I think Inafune said it takes place around 32XX.

ZX takes place not long after MMZ, becasue Ciel is still alive. (Although very old)

So it goes:

Classic
X
Zero
ZX
Legends.

Battle Network doesn't take place in the Main Timeline. It's sort of an alternate universe, but it starts off at the same point. Dr. Light (Hikari being Japanese for Light) and Dr. Wily still work together, but Dr. Light/Hikari has his idea for Personalized AI chosen for funding over Wily's Robot Masters. Wily gets pissed sooner than he did in MMC. He also redesigns his robots for A.I./P.E.T. rather than their Robot Master forms. StarForce takes place long afterwards.

i've surprisingly only played the classics and the X collection. The original series definitely peaked in 2 and 3, although 6 wasn't without it's charm. For the X series, Number 3 is an easy win for me.

I never considered the X series to be connected to the original MM series. To me, it was always an alternate continuity where mega Man wasn't activated until much later than normal.

Which is why I love the Maverick Hunter X version of the story. After a long and fruitful life Light creates his perfect version of Mega Man. Simply codenamed X. He's placed into cryo stasis in the hope that when he eventually awakens the world will be a better and more peaceful place. A place where a Mega Man could truly enjoy himself and not worry about fighting evil. It's along the same lines as the MMX story but delves deeper into the reasoning behind him deciding to fight when he awakens.... And making Vile a renegade good guy and not a maverick is a plus.

But yet, Dr. Light appears in every single one. My friend actually asked how it's possible he left so many capsules everywhere. I'm convinced that this Dr. Light is an A.I. based on the originals thoughts, actions, motivations, etc. built to continue helping out X. So the A.I. sends out reploids and plants new armor parts to help X out. Also, since Zero can talk to the hologram, that further gives my theory credibility.

That could also be why the Falcon armor couldn't be properly repaired in X6, cause the Dr. Light A.I. didn't assist in the process. And why doesn't the A.I. simply give X the upgrades? My thought is that Dr. Light wants X to constantly hone his skills. Any other thoughts?

But anyway, Zero has been proven to be the last of Dr. Wily's creations, so the connection is there. Still, I really liked that sub-plot, and I felt X5 handled it poorly. The Black Devil was fun though. So yeah, X is definitely in the original continuity.

In the OVA Day of Sigma, it shows X going into his 100 Year Stasis. During this, Dr. Light is critically wounded, and dies shortly after sealing X.

Since Light did it to ensure X's reliability, this could mean he's seen what reploids are capable of first-hand, probably in the form of Zero. Since Zero started as a Maverick, and Mavericks naturally hate humans, then it can be assumed that Zero probably killed Dr. Wily. I really can't say if he killed, wounded, or left alone MegaMan, ProtoMan, Duo, Roll, or Bass, but since they have no appearance in MMX (And they should probably be somewhat immortal, being machines and not human.) it can be assumed that Zero was Wily's most successful creation.

And I can connect MMX to MMZ. Area Zero in MegaMan Zero4 is the crash site of the Eurasia Colony from MegaMan X5. I thought that was a cool reference, as most MegaMan series don't direct mention of past series.

And Ciel is in MMZX, os that's apparently connected somehow.

So MMC, MMX, MMZ, and MMZX are all connected. Legends is debateable, but I remember Inafune saying it was a very distant future to the other series'.

And here we go with the Wikipedia Article:

According to the sourcebook, Rockman Perfect Memories, the Legends series takes place after the X series (or, more logically, the Zero series, and now, ZX). Some have even speculated on such a connection based on comments in the X series; most notably, the use of the word "Elysium" (with a capital E, indicating it is a proper noun) in one of the endings of Mega Man X5. Other examples include the frequently-seen Reaverbot eye symbols that appear in Hyleg Ourobockle and Burble Hekelot's levels in Mega Man Zero 2 and Hanumachine's level in Mega Man Zero 3. There also appears to be a Quantum Refractor in the background of Cubit Foxtar's arena/boss room in Mega Man Zero 3. Another fact worth mentioning is that many enemies (almost exclusively the small flying enemies) bear a red eye that is extremely similar to the Reaverbots.

There has been some speculation that one of the main characters in Mega Man ZX named Girouette may be the Master from Mega Man Legends 2, although this is rather unlikely, as Giro dies during ZX. However, the character of Zero (and possibly, any incarnations thereof) are known for cheating death many times during the X series, so there might be a small chance of this being true. Another spectulated character is of Vent being the MegaMan from Legends. They have the same hair and eye color (though all MegaMans have green eyes), and we know that the MegaMan from Legends had lived for hundreds, if not thousands of years before the story of the games occurred. Meaning that the age setting from 24XX to the 5000's (or 8000's as most fans believe the time period to be) would 'seemingly' match up. This would also seem to explain the close relationship between the Legends MegaMan and the Master as this would make the both of them the last (biomechanincal) humans left.

Another speculation relating to the time period of the games has to do with the term "Halcyon Days." The Halcyon Days in Egyptian Mythology were calculated to take place sometime during 9th millennium A.D., which in Mega Man terms would be written as 8XXX.[1][2]

If you take a look at the Model W Core during any cutscene, anime or sprite, it is important to note that it is covered, in various places, by the eyes similar to the Reaverbots in the Legends series. The Model W Core also has what looks like a stitch-like mouth, also related to that of the Reaverbots.

Another is where, in Mega Man Legends, reploids have already increased greatly in population and that Mavericks still wreck the world, though not all of them are of the combat type.

Interestingly enough, Purifer Units in the Japanese versions are called Irregular Hunters (Maverick Hunter). However, the fact that the Irregular Hunters in the DASH, formally (but not necessarily) the Zero series and the X games are the same thing is speculation for now. Also, the world of Terra is called Earth in original Japanese version. (This was carried from Mega Man V for the Game Boy.) Even more interesting, Elysium in the Japanese version of Mega Man Legends 2 (Rockman DASH 2) is actually called "Heaven".

Quick question:

In the PSP retcons, Capcom changes and adds facts/history. Do you think this is because they were lazy in the S/NES days, or are they trying to answer questions and fix plot holes?

Anyway, who says that the original Megaman bots aren't alive in the X series? Zero could've been saved just so that the Wily legacy would live on. Rock, Roll, Forte, and Blues (I'm using Japanese names as civilian names for them) cold just be civilian bots, since they're outdated. Or, Dr. Light could've put them in stasis pods like X. Or maybe their cores ran out of power after a while. Why'd they have to die?

Remember what Zero was like when Sigma first fought him?

Like that. Zero was, technically, the first reploid. (A reploid being any free-thinking robot based on MegaMan X's design) Thus making him unstoppable, at least by MegaMan, Duo, ProtoMan, or Bass.

Not to mention, the only think Wily ever told his machines to do was to kill MegaMan. Zero, essentially being a God amongst Machines, would've wiped the floor with the Blue Bomber.

Then there's the other possibility: X is the original MegaMan, upgraded. That woud NOT make Zero ProtoMan, though, because ProtoMan wasn't "The Last of the Doctor's Creations."

EDIT: And the PSP games are a lot like Ultimate Marvel: The same story, slightly changed.

Well, I doubt that X is the original Megaman. H had a flashback in "The Day of Sigma" where he was just a torso and a head being built by Dr. Light. I don't think that Dr. Light would completely take apart Megaman and rebuild him from scratch, he'd just make Megaman change back into Rock and then take the armor, upgrade it, and give it back. Or, he'd take the helmet, chest armor, buster, and leg armor, and upgrade those. Either way, Megaman would still be a fully-functional robot while Dr. Light worked on the X upgrades.

Plus, where does Quint fit in? If Dr. Light made Megaman into Quint, he definitely couldn't be X.

my favorite megaman games (not in any particular order):

Misadventures of tron bonne (play as the villains from megaman legends) (ps1)

Megaman legends 1 and 2 (ps1)

Megaman x4 (ps1)

If Dr. Light made Megaman into Quint, he definitely couldn't be X.
what if rock got killed, and light HAD to rebuild him. That would still give credit to the theory megaman died, but it would also tie in they are the same person.

Quint? From the Gameboy games? The ones that are almost definately NOT canon?

If Quint came from the future, then why wouldn't Sigma or Dr. Weil? Or X and Zero, for that matter? Time travel doesn't exist in 21XX, or a lot fo things would've been changed. (For example, Iris.)
