Profile: Many Autobots believe that the aggressive nature of the mechanoids who became the Decepticons would have driven many of them to revolt even if someone hadn't organized them. This may be true, but only one being on Cybertron had the will and charisma to turn them into a fighting force so powerful that it quickly overran the entire world. That being was Megatron.

Long ago, before the war, Megatron was an energon miner, a member of the lower class, in Mine C-12. One day Senator Decimus arrived at the mine to announce that the mine was being closed immediately and the workers would be relocated. However, one of the Senator's guards killed a worker for insubordination and claims of Senate corruption, which spurred Megatron into action. He attacked Senator Decimus and killed the guard in self-defense, and was shocked to find he had done so. He and the other miners were en route to imprisonment when Rumble and Frenzy broke free and started a riot aboard their ship. They escaped and made their way to Kaon.

After evading law enforcement, Megatron joined a team of underworld gladiators under the tutelage of Clench. Initially repulsed by killing his opponents, the games eventually turned him more brutal and excessive, and he took control of the entire operation from Clench. The opportunistic Senator Ratbat, after seeing how much money there was in the underworld matches, sent his agent Soundwave to offer Megatron weaponry and technology to upgrade himself and his comrades. Sentinel Prime's Autobots were sent to investigate the gladiatorial games, but when two Autobots were personally killed by Megatron, Prime's forces stepped up their pursuit. Megatron used the gladiatorial games to drum up an army of violent malcontents and spread chaos throughout Cybertron. He then deliberately allowed Sentinel Prime's forces to capture his burgeoning army, so that Starscream (pretending to defect) and Soundwave and his hidden cassette army could exterminate the Kaon Senate and then free every last prisoner. Megatron led the army of prisoners against the Autobots, beat Sentinel Prime to death, and took control of Kaon.

Under his leadership, the Decepticons quickly seized the advantage over the Autobots. The Decepticons scored victory after victory. Prime after Prime failed to stop him, each falling to before him until finally an Autobot named Optimus was made Prime. Under his leadership the Autobots began to turn back the Decepticon horde and the war stabilized into a relative stalemate.

Over time, the war between Megatron's Decepticon army and Optimus Prime's Autobots covered the entire planet and soon beyond to the rest of the galaxy. Optimus grew to respect and fear Megatron as a calm, calculating and measured opponent, while Megatron himself respected Prime's sheer power and his skill as a tactician and as a leader. With Cybertron rendered uninhabitable, Megatron accelerated his plans for a galaxy spanning empire. He abandoned his dead homeworld and moved the war to the stars.

Abilities: Megatron is incredibly powerful, intelligent, and resistant to physical damage and fatigue, more than the equal to any Prime that has ever existed. He is one of the best melee and mid-range fighters ever to have walked on Cybertron, perfecting his skills in the gladiatorial contests back on Cybertron's "Golden Age." Through his own cunning and millennia of warfare Megatron has acquired a deep understanding of combat and warfare. He is capable of both organizing a galactic wide campaign and maneuvering individual troops in a small scale battle. He is both an expert strategist and tactician. His trademark enforcer is the jet-black fusion cannon he carries. Harnessing the same atomic energy that powers stars, it represents arguably the most advanced weaponry known to Transformer science. The cannon can fire a blast to a range of up to fifteen miles and release enough energy to flatten an Earth city block.

In robot mode, he can combine his fusion cannon with other extensions to form a particle beam cannon or a slightly less powerful but more accurate telescopic laser. In terms of brute firepower, Megatron's most destructive mode is his multi-barreled tank mode in which his fusion cannon functions as the main weapon with two powerful laser cannons augmenting its destructive might. In his Earth mode he is capable of shrinking down to the size of a human handgun. While this may give him a more innocuous appearance, in this smaller mode his destructive power is even more concentrated. One blast from him in gun mode can inflict critical damage even to the likes of Omega Supreme. While in this mode Megatron must be wielded by another. He can still help affect and improve the accuracy of his blasts while wielded in this way. Megatron can use his internal circuitry to connect the cannon inter-dimensionally with a black hole, from which it can draw on anti-matter as a power source. The full extent of his destructive power when doing this is yet to be determined, but doing this for even a single blast creates a tremendous strain on Megatron.

Weaknesses: Megatron lacks any physical defects, but he does tend to overreach himself. He has a tendency to grow impatient in trying to make his master plans become victories if he feels his control over the situation is diminishing. Linking himself to a black hole is incredibly draining on his fuel resources.
