It doesn't matter WHO does TF4, just the very thought of there even being a 4th Movie is nuttier than a squirrel turd!!!

We have a trilogy, now it's time to just LEAVE THE FRANCHISE ALONE!! The Fandom is already divided, half of us hated the films, half of us loved them and no matter which camp you are in, history will show that going beyond the trilogy point just makes a film franchise an utter crap-fest. There is absolutely nothing, plot-wise, that can be done that will make a TF fan truly happy unless you resurrect 3/4 of the characters that died in all 3 movies and introduced Unicron on top of it, at which point I will walk out of the theater yelling "What a piece of sh** film, I want my money back!!" at the top of my lungs.

I don't care who heads up the TF4 project, this thing is going to be a freaking train-wreck!!!! #-o #-o

I believe a common complaint of the first film, and less so the second and third, was that the combination of rather complex character design and Michael Bay's rapid-fire editing technique left many critics confused as to the events unfolding onscreen. I am glad to hear, however, that this was not your experience.

Yeah, I know there was a lot of that in the first movie, but after watching it over a thousand times, I noticed exactly what was going on. I don't know why people still bitch about it in ROTF where there was no to minimal shaky cam. DOTM was perfect with the shaky cam thing though. The only time I noticed where I couldn't tell what the hell was going on was Bumblebee vs Soundwave.

One thing I did notice about DOTM though is that there are a LOT of mistakes. The most glaring was when the building was falling and they where sliding down the outside of it, in one shot Sam is all the way at the bottom of the group and Carly is all the way at the top, then in the very next shot Sam is above Carly then he grabs onto her. There where a lot of other editing mistakes, but I don't feel like going into specifics.

It is amazing, isn't it? I mean, the names Orci, Kurtzman, Rogers and Kruger have become big, big names now, yet people seem to forget their hand in this whole mess.

To make it simple for the rest of the class, whereas you and I are both on page 50 and they seem to need a refresher course...

Michael Bay is driving a car. He's keeping it from crashing. It's hard to do that when the car is built by Orci, Kurtzman, Rogers and Kruger. They didn't give it brakes, or a steering wheel, so it's impossible for Bay to control the car. And before anyone says "Well, he shouldn't have driven the car to begin with." Well, like us, he was mislead. He was given a pat on the back and told "Enjoy!"

I think Ehren Kruger did good with Dark of the Moon. It was definitely better than Revenge of the Fallen and as good as the first film. As for Bay directing another one, I am not surprised or disappointed. The only way another director would be useful is if this was started from scratch. And after the 3 Bay films, I believe general audiences wouldn't be interested in a complete reformatting (I really dislike the term "reboot") so Paramount is doing the smart thing: going with what works, financially anyway.

HalfOfMe wrote:The simple truth is, before the movies Transformers was on a major decline. The toylines were struggling, the anime re-tellings garnered no ratings, and generally for good reason. Like them or not, the movie franchise saved Transformers. We would not have Prime, we probably would not have Generations, without Bay's films.

Where were you in 1991? Nothing tops "on the decline" quite like "nonexistent". But the Transformers were back again the next year. That's because the concept of "giant robots from space that beat the crap out of each other and change into cool vehicles" will never stop being cool or popular, with or without movies.

HalfOfMe wrote:all things considered, these types of adaptations are typically way, way further off-cue than this trilogy was. Look at, well--anything (Rise of Cobra, anyone?).

Rise of Cobra was ten times as good as any of the Bayformers movies.

First-Aid wrote:A boring movie doesn't make a billion dollars. Plain and simple.

Titanic, The Dark Knight, Order of the Phoenix... okay, TDK was more confusing and nonsensical than boring, but you get the idea.

I weep for the species.
I do not blame Michael Bay for crapping all over a huge part of my childhood. He just directed the scripts that were given to him. I blame Orci, Kurtzman, and Krueger, who seem completely incapable of concocting a story that even halfway makes sense.

Your analogy is fallacious. A more accurate analogy would be: Michael Bay is in charge of a project to build a new car. Many other people contribute to the design and construction of this car; some have more responsibility, some less. All answer to Michael. Orci, Kurtzman and Kruger are responsible for the design of the engine. Unfortunately, the design they turn in is sub-par; however, it is retained. A number of people criticize Michael Bay for allowing a faulty engine to be incorporated into the vehicle; his defendants propose that the blame for the engine lays primarily with the engine designers, and not with the project manager that signed off on it.

To be fair, I don't think most moviegoers plan to watch a movie over a thousand times to fully understand the on-screen action. I absolutely agree that the second and third film seem less enamored with 'shaky-cam', and this certainly seems an improvement to my mind.

This news is tantamount to the image of the loan Indian shedding a sorrowful tear with head hung low after looking over the destruction of his sacred land.

I'm that Indian looking at that scorched and dead aftermath that Bay has wrought upon the Transformer franchise.

Just kidding. But i would honestly rather him not do the 4th.

To be fair to Orci and Kurtzman, they have given us the gem that is Transformers: Prime, as well as a wonderfully geeky reboot of Star Trek. I don't blame them for ROTF, I actually hold the deadline accountable. Obviously, with more time, better movies can be made. ROTF was bad plot-wise, but to a good many people it was still a fun movie to watch. I enjoy it occassionally. No matter what anyone says about Devastator in that movie, the hair on the back of my neck still stands up in anticipation as the vehicle forms merge...

How?

how do I hold the deadline responsible? Easy. It's obvious from the first and third movies that a half-decent movie can be written with sufficient time. ROTF had about 5 weeks to complete the movie script thanks to the writers strike. I think the Fallen idea could have been done much better....if they had time. Bay has said they were editing right up to the release date thanks to the time crunch. It comes down to the fact that they had a release date to make and had to make do with what they had. That's why i blame the deadline aka release date. If the date had been 6 months later, we would have seen considerable improvement in ROTF...a whole different movie. That's my theory anyways.

Transformers Prime and Star Trek are two examples of O & K taking something that has decades long mythology and doing their take on it.

Plus I wouldn't give them too much credit for Prime. They're only Producers or something?

The only decent, and mostly original (even if it is basically an X-Files clone) thing they've done is Fringe.

DOTM is the proof that time doesn't matter when the TF movies are concerned. Still a stupid story involving bringing Cybertron to Earth to rescue it with human labour. I also hate the fact the autobots and... humans  seem to survive perfectly well when Decepticons, machines of war, have a hard time taking on a well documented, and a mucher weaker race, respectively. I know the autobots lost a few..but nothing compared to pretty much EVERY Decepticon, including the fallen, who is pretty much supposed to be the next worst thing to Unicron. I say PFT.... PFFFTTT!!!!I know this is a movie for the general public, but you can give the average movie go-er something newer than the ol' EVERYONE BAD IS DEAD, HAPPY ENDING. (even if every Decepticon isn't dead after DOTM, the feeling is that there is no more threat.. and without the tougher Decepticons who are already on Earth, there pretty much isn't, especially when they themselves died). Argh, I have already given way too much thought than it actually deserves.

Did you think it was stupid when it was done in the G1 cartoon?

Hahaha, ya. Obviously. Like I take G1 cartoons seriously. But for a movie that is trying so hard to be "realistic", I would hope for something a little bit more imaginable for the viewer, from a story-telling pov. Something than can be concieved as a threat... Its like having a bunch of ants rebuild the planet earth... and they're alien ants who can't even survive on earth. Etc. etc...
