MICHAEL BAY DESTROYS NINJA TURTLES!!!
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/03/1 ... 64828.html

HAHAHAHA!!!!! Oh, good job Bay, I applaud you, I really do. I applaud you for having the balls to stand up to all these people who believe that every damn incarnation of a particular series needs to be the exact same, I really do applaud you...but wait? What's that? He's only the producer? Not the writer? DHURRR!!! Which means no one can blame him for this. Yet, ignorant people persist with their bull crap pointing of the finger and blaming Bay for raping their childhoods. Even though he had nothing to do with the story for this OR, OR the Transformers movies.

I really do applaud the ones who changed this though. I love it when remakes are completely different from the source material to break up the monotony of decades and decades of the same thing, no sarcasm. :michaelbay:

Oh slag...

this is going to cause a HUGE rift in the TMNT fan base. How dare they change the turtles' origins! Changing storylines in new continuities should be outlawed! (sarcasm) 8-}

Changing source material isn't necessarily a bad thing, but in this case i BELIEVE IT IS. IT IS THE MUTANT Turtles...not the ALIEN turtles. Now if the origin went that the Turtles were some sort of freak accident in the evolutinary chain, or descendents of a missing link between sea and land animals this would be ok, as they would still represent a 'Mutation." In other words, it would be like saying the Go Bots are a lost tribe of settlers from Cybertron that set out to colonize a new world before the Civil War broke out. Once again, LAME I feel filthy just for writing that.

Making the Turles Aliens is just a lazy attempt to be original/add spice/stir controversy to get people talking about a movie with a crap plot.

I understand Bay didn't write this and it wasn't his call and I do not blame him. I blame some lazy Hollywood exec looking for 'fresh' ideas through a haze of bong smoke. The originals were popular for a reason. You can stray off course, but not so far as you can't find your way back.

I think Mr Bay might be taking the piss just to see what reaction he'll get.

Michael Bay is a troll. He either generates false news, or cries out the biggest changes in the movies he's working on that he knows long-time fans won't be happy to hear.
That shows he doesn't respect the franchises he's working on at all.

SlyTF1, whatever brain capacity I thought you might have had just evaporated with the title of this thread. As for TMNT, all the movies sucked. All of them. This will not be different.

Well, if there is one thing to hope for, it's that this movie will bring the turtles into a more public light. More shows and whatnot. Of course...these shows would draw from...the source materiel...and asthetic...of the movie...

I just can't believe the creators of the TMNT signed off on the idea of making them aliens.
The only thing I can think is that they will be aliens mutated to resemble turtles.
But what do aliens know about being ninja? All I know is that if they think the origins of TMNT is the cause of lack of interest, they are wrong. The origin is the one thing they don't need to change.
Michael Bay seems to have aliens on the brain.

What this news evokes seems to stem more from the 1987 cartoon two-part episode "Planet of the Turtleloids" in which the Turtles are transported to a planet by humanoid turtle-like creatures like themselves. Bay is essentially making the them be Turtleloids instead of mutated Earth turtles, which robs them of their uniqueness and makes them into another species of B-Movie styled lifeforms.

Bay, go back to non-toy movies and leave our childhoods alone. I'll be over here waiting for Nickelodeon's new CGI TMNT cartoon. >:oP

It's high time we cry rape again instead of recognizing it for what it is; a brand, a product.

And taking into account the TMNT multiverse as established in the Turtles Forever movie, the concept of the Turtles being aliens simply CANNOT work, as all TMNT universes stem from the same source, in which the Turtles are mutated Earth turtles. Making them aliens simply violates the fundamental nature of their existence in this multiverse, otherwise they aren't "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", but instead are "Teenage Mutant Ninja Aliens" or Teenage Alien Ninja Turtles".

Aliens can't be turtles? We have tons of contradictions in te TF universe. It's fiction, anything can work.

The TMNT themselves can't be aliens if they're all tied to the original Mirage Turtles, who were indeed mutated Earth turtles. Recall when Shredder broke down thew 1987 and 2003 Turtles to their most basic elements to trace their substantial existence back to the Mirage Turtles. If he were to do the same with extraterrestrial TMNT, they wouldn't have those base elements due to not being of a similar nature to the Mirage Turtles. In every incarnation of the TMNT franchse, the Turtles have all been almost the exact same kind of lifeform. Being extraterrestrials would negate that with the ones in this movie.

True, but only if the previous series are regarded. This does not seem to be the case.

In typical anti-Bay rage, the masses grab their pitchforks before understanding.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertain ... 8758.story

"Fans need to take a breath, and chill. They have not read the script. Our team is working closely with one of the original creators of Ninja Turtles to help expand and give a more complex back story," Bay wrote. "Relax, we are including everything that made you become fans in the first place. We are just building a richer world."

Oh and Bay's just producing, so blaming him for this is kind of silly as he's not directing, he's not writing, he's just producing. Point your pitchforks in a different direction.

Them not being aliens was one of those aspects that we liked. >:oP

We are just building a richer world.

I'm not sure if this applies to the old cartoons, but in the newer ones wasn't Shredder just a machine controlled by tiny pink aliens?

I searched in the theme about a week ago, and Shredder in the new cartoon was: a. originally a human; b. the mentioned ultrom alien possessing a robot body that looks like Shredder; c. a computer program - all three of them battled the turtles and each other.

True, but only if the previous series are regarded. This does not seem to be the case.
Of course the previous media would have to be regarded. Otherwise, they'd be better off making a completely new movie with non-preexisting characters and concepts.

If they want to make a new movie franchise about alien turtles who come to Earth and fight crime as ninjas, then by all means, they should go ahead and do so. Why, make it be a spoof or homage to the TMNT, with little references and such. But don't make it actually BE a TMNT movie, cuz that's not what TMNT is about.

They shouldn't simply rewrite the fundamental aspects of what makes TMNT be TMNT. Take those away, and it's not TMNT anymore. This is knockoff-level of diversity, here. The established origin formula in its most basic form (four baby turtles mutated into giant humanoid turtles who live in the sewers) has worked for every single incarnation of the franchise. If it's not broken, don't try to fix it.

A little change is okay. A lot of change to the point where the entire scheme of things is altered to an unfamiliar level is not okay.
