If Prime dies i'm gonna hate this movie. Seriously stop killing off prime ffs. G1, Headmasters etc he is always the one to go stop it already.

none of us see the movie yet so who knows if prime will die or not. IF prime dies or gets damaged to where he need to be repaired he'll be back in TF3.

ok.. from one simple and really unfounded rumour from an extra, someone who is more than likely over-inflating a situation through 3rd or 4th hand evidence.

you see rumours are like chinese whispers, the more it gets said and spread around, the more it distorts and becomes something completely and utterly rediculous, half baked, and worthless...

people who are over-reacting to just a rumour.. calm down and move on to sweetners or de-caf, whatever your fired up on, lay off.. it isnt healthy.

look at it from the sideline point of view, and note a lot of the imagery of the battered prime thats been on empire magazine et al and the boot to the face he takes in the SuperBowl trailer. How many times have we all seen prime (regarless of continuity) getting totally trashed, yet some how being able to come out swinging and being the winner?

and for the record, prime didn't get offed in Armada, Energon, RID or Cybertron/Galaxy Force, he only was completely totalled in G1 in the movie, coming back in Dark awakening and then finally at the end of season 3 to fight the Hate Plague.

so as the man said in alien 3 "rumour control... here are the facts......"

wait and see, because remember, information on ROTF is a lot more scarce than it was when the first one came out. so from a neutralists point of view... take it easy, dont worry, take it cool and things will be ok (well until otherwuise stated)

In the TF universe(as in most comics/cartoon universes)it's difficult for a hero to die but it's much more difficult to remain dead.
Most of the popular super-heros(eg Superman)have died at least once and they always get reborn one way or another.
So,I think Prime's death and rebirth is a matter of time in the movie-verse too.

I personally liked that the creators of the old series took a chance and wrote Prime's death into the storyline. It gave everything a little bit more depth. In my opinion, it cheapened Prime's sacrifice when they brought him back to life, much in the same way comic characters are continually revived after a tragic death (i.e. Phoenix in the X-Men). And yes, I saw TF: The Movie in theaters back in '86, and felt the same way back then.

I had hoped they were going to be at least original with Prime and NOT kill him for once.

However, I don't mind him getting the s*** beat out of him near the movie's end. Just don't kill him for once.

Prime probably doesn't die. Reasons:

1) Jetfire coming to the Autobots and combining with Prime will most likely be a key factor. If anyone dies it would be Jetfire (he's so old, and with the plot, it would be okay.)

2) Bay isn't a COMPLETE effing dumbass.

3) G1 died with Prime. Why would this be any different?

4) If he does "die" he'll come back after some epic battle. Probably. So he won't be dead for very long if any.

The creators of the first series weren't taking a chance when they killed off Prime back in 1986, they were freaking clueless! They said so themselves. Transformers started out as a series of 30 minute "commercials". The '86 movie was a 90 minute introduction of the upcoming product line from their standpoint and it wasn't until weeks after the movies release that they realized "Oh wow, we really screwed the pooch this time!" They truly had no clue just how iconic Prime had become. Steven Spielberg and Michael Bay already know all of this back-story, as well as Orci and his team, which is why I have very serious doubts that Prime will actually "die" in this series. His deaths in other continuities have all been handled differently (as in "open-ended") in every series since the original movie which is why topics like this get labeled first and foremost as rumors. The only fact that any of us has to go on is that some extras were give the charge of "Guarding Primes Body". We don't know the exact context their instructions were given in. Did anybody bother to ask "Umm, Mr. Bay, would that be his unconcious body, his dead body, his concious but I've-fallen-and-can't-get-up body??" We all just took the big bad speculation ball and ran with it for all we were worth. I personally could care less about the truth of it all. I'll find that out on opening day of the movie. Until then, I'm just going to have fun speculating and playing "What If.."

Death really doesn't mean anything in the movies. Prime will be as dead as Megatron was or as dead as Jack Sparrow was in the damned pirate movies.

Alright, here's my layout:

OP is chilling out on Earth. Then Soundwave crashes on Earth and shoots Optimus, driving him into a mechanical coma. Ratchet gets to work while the Autobots are fighting with no leader. Their forces start to weaken, then Optimus
comes back and kicks Decepticon ass.

That actually makes a lot of sense there.

I'm really confused about Bay's ideas. He creates completly new TF universe, new ideas, new designs but everything is still based on G1. We can see references to G1 in names and relations between robots so I hope that Bay won't find the idea of Prime's death making his movie more G1-ish.

They didn't take a chance, Hasbro had them kill off Prime to make way for new characters, which equated into new toys, which means money. They were gonna do the same with Duke from GI Joe, but when they saw the backlash with prime, they changed it into a coma.

Well, yeah... I know all of this, but I still think that it made for some good storytelling.
