Does anyone else collect the new DC MOTU comics? I will finish at issue 12 because I can't deal with the new looks (like the New52) and worse I can't stand what they've done killing at least one character and turning another evil (no more spoilers).

I read the first book (I don't remember how many issues were included). Some of the choices for the new look were not what I hoped for, but the characters were all there.

Some of the illustrations were a little confusing. For example, Trap-Jaw had a right hand. Then here was a picture with some weird creature crawling down his arm. Then the next frame showed him with an energy scythe instead of his hand. There were a couple things like that. Nothing that messed up the story, but it interrupted my flow while I was reading.

Over all I thought it is a creative idea for events that took place after the original He-Man events. I will get the next book when it comes out. (I don't do issue to issue, I wait for the compilation.)
Check out my collection!

Thanks, I'm going to keep a look out on that site.

My fear is I got into it too late, and they are winding down with the line.

The only thing I can see changing that is if a MOTU movie ramped up interest perhaps?

I love it.For lack of a better term,it was like a love letter to the original cartoon. It took everything thats cool about the original cartoon and brought it to new one, while still maintaining to keep its own identity. The season long story archs, the characters stories, the action, all of the them felt very good.Thats why its one my favorite cartoons :x

I felt the EXACT same way!!It felt familiar and brand new at the same time. Great cartoon.

Barging in on your conversation here. I really liked the 200x cartoon. I would have liked it to run on a couple more seasons. It was a great upgrade to the franchise.
I wasn't really into the figures so much though. I collect the Classics line for that. I've got a Lockjaw from the 200x line, a Classics and the G1 for display but thats about it. I wasn't a big fan of the slightly static pose they have. Only a few points of articulation.

the 200x cartoon was great. I totally agree that it should have been given a few more seasons.I liked the 80s figures when I was a kid,but the 200x figures were so much better. The classics are the best version IMO.

Interesting. Did you have the (Legendary) Eternia Playset?

Personally, I grew up in the 90's, so New Adventures was my He-Man. Campbell Lane was my Skeletor (and sublime as BW Rampage too, RIP).
Now the cartoon, in hindsight, much like Filmation, wasn't fantastic. The toys though, really appealed to me. The heavier leaning towards sci-fi was greatly appreciated and I had all the Space Mutants (Nordor was forever out of reach though). I am awaiting Super7 to add Disc of Doom Skeletor to the Classics line. Which I would buy no matter the cost.

Thankfully two cartoons in the works (one has nothing to do with Kevin Smith YAY :))

This was kind of a forewarning not seeing any preview of the retro stuff series with series 3/4 announced ages back...

Super7 is losing he-man figure rights so the down side is no more overpriced not adhering to cartoon accuracy retro style figures but not sure what it means for Snake Mountain. Super7s last Motu releases are retroaction Battlecat nd Panthor. Hopefully they will clarify if they are still making Snake mountain or if Mattel is.

Much like TF Anime+, with the Vintage Classics line, I've never understood the appeal. I would have thought the idea of an expensive Collectors line, is that you want these characters to look as good as they possibly can. Not base that look on respective cartoon series, wherein the characters looked atrocious???

Price for one thing, plus having them match the original toys but looking like the cartoon is a nice touch. Maybe funko can do them as part of their Savage World range and be £10 cheaper just from not having rubber band/punch action tho some of the savage world stuff is very lazy repaints with body types such as thundercats Slythe).

Variety is the other -I'm not a fan of the reaction figures but those, the Muscle or loyal subjects stuff goes a lot better with Grayskull or snake mountain due to their smaller size (as much as the new snake mountain is awesome, I dont think even 1 muscle figure will look good standin on that tiny bridge).

Availabilty is the last reason, the classics stuff can be too hard to get (along with Funkos). the upcoming new articulated line that's cheaper than classics but are looking as good may be the best way to go but the classics will always be in the lead with them having 200X/New adventures/She-ra done in the same unified style.

Fingers crossed for a decent Cringer that isn't just an unposeable accessory at some point -it's only been decades :) Plus I think classics filmation or 200X skeletor beats the classic one, the colors/hood/face are much better. A lot of the 200X stuff beats classics imho.

Affordability does make me chuckle when I think of the MP Anime+ line, as the exact opposite is now true. Back on brand however, over the years of watching Pixel Dan videos on YouTube (as he is basically The He-Man Guy) I have seen similar arguments over the years.

"Why is this Classics line so expensive, as opposed to [considerably cheaper to make] retail lines?"

Because it IS a collectors line.

"Why is the Classics line not sold in regular retail and therefore easier to obtain"

Because He-Man has been a dead brand outside of the collectors market for at least a decade. Limited stock were made as the collectors market rarely number in the millions. Why stock toy store shelves with 100's of [expensive to produce] Classics Zodak figures, if with no media or marketing behind the release, you only sell ten globally?

I do think 200X was very underrated. The show and the toys. But as I've pointed out in TF threads, the mistake Mattel made was in aiming the new show solely at the old fanbase and not towards making a new one.
Meanwhile, from Classics, all I wanted was a new Disks of Doom Skeletor and NA ended up getting shortchanged yet again. First so they could pump out the inferior Vintage Demakes over continuing the Classics Line and then halted altogether, as Mattel have taken back the reigns as a potential new resurgence looms.

So, let's talk Live Action.

^ This interesting titbit gives us the long, surprising history of He-Man in live action since the original 1987 film.

Image

^ While this guy [Noah Centineo] has been officially cast as 'He-Man' for the upcoming live action film in 2021. Personally, I'm hoping he is Prince Adam and we'll get a dual actor role for He-Man himself, ala DC's Shazam film. I'll keep this one updated as and when we know anything.
