they dont have thier "common" alt modes yet.. these figures are before the alt modes are are commonly used to ... pre jet , pre semi ..
Yeah I realize that but even in cybertronian form they all had a different kind of alt form, ie: the first episode of G1 cartoon or War Within.

What I'd really like to see is some pics of the toys in alt mode since so far all we have is the box art which as we all know isn't always completely accurate

These really aren't "cybertronian forms though. These are basically "default" forms that they all have as a means to travel between planets.

So is it kind of like a blank slate transformer with a generic space traveling form?

Whats the deal with the brown Starscream? on the box pic he looks like hes more of a silver color. The brown looks ok but I like the box pic much better

Prime is silver, Starscream is kind of a bronzy gold. Both box art also has a small picture of the other one, so that might confuse you

Pretty much. There is probably more to it than that, but that would be the general idea. The Protoforms all still seem to have their own individuality and the vehicle modes do differ from one another, but one of the general functions is the same thing, to get them planet-side safely without being detected before scanning a new, final vehicle form and undergoing reformatting.

No, more like a combination standard vehicle?either ground or air? and drop ship. In the case of Prime, his alt mode looks more like some futuristic big rig, while Starscream looks like pure air power.

thanks for the heads up. Took them down. As far as tombstone goes, you might be right, but these two were the leaders as far as I can remember, and since I wouldn't be redoing every character, I think these two would be a good first two. If they do a protoform of bumblebee, then Nugget would be perfect. I actually still have all four rocklords mentioned so far (as well as Slimestone, the silver one). I should get them out and take a pic of the group. Oh, and here's a link to nugget. My favorite part of him is the jetpack. Automatically flips out when you lift the hood part.

He doesn?t look like a Sharkticon. All that is is a back-plate. We haven?t seen a good shot of his alt mode yet, but given that it is some form of re-entry mode (ala Drop Ship), he would need some control surfaces, though we don]t really see any in the pics on the back of the package.

Yeah but they could have worked them into the transformation instead of back kibble that still looks like a shark tail to me.

Alright, time to clear some things up:

-They're preview figures, and will thus only give a SMALL glimpse at the line, without revealing any gimmicks (although Screamer's gun looks like his gunhands on the movie proto).
-These are cometformers. They use comet-esque forms, dropships if you will, to enter a planet.
-These are NOT movie-accurate. For one we won't see Starscream in prototype mode. Second, Prime only appears as a shadowy figure. Third, it was described much differently in the script. In it, they arrive with the help of more normal-looking comets, which then open as flowers to let the Transformer step out before attaching again and reconfiguring itself into the altmode parts the Transformer needs for it's disguise. In other words, they're a bit like reversed protoforms/stasispods.
