Yeah, Prime has been out for a whole four months already, gosh! They should do something else, like more movie toys. That's what we REALLY want.
Seriously though, the Prime toyline is still in its infancy, and this release does not signal any slow-down or stop in the Prime line. It's completely unrelated.
Well TF Prime is basically a mix of movie and animated styles. When you mix s**t and piss in the toilet you get something nasty. The cartoon is cool to watch, but the figures dont live up to the hype in my opinion. And if you count the whole "first edition" outrage, TF Prime figures have been around alot longer than 4 months. In my opinion, what we really want is more G1 themed stuff and this fits fine.
If you count First Edition, Prime has been out for a whole six months, and depending on your region, there was only 1 or 2 small assortments. Prime took off big-time in January-February worldwide and that's where I'm starting.
While I will readily acknowledge there are a fair number of people who, like you, only care about Classics and Masterpiece figures, there are also many of us who enjoy the latest mainline stuff Hasbro. I, for one, love the Prime TV show and toys. You think they're overrated? Okay, that's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but Hasbro doesn't cater just to you. Lots of people love Prime, lots of people loved Animated, and even the movies have their fans. The series didn't make 2 billion dollars for nothing. I'll admit to getting some amusement from them, at the same time as questioning some of Bay's directorial decisions. Hasbro's main target is kids, and 8-10 year-old kids don't care about G1 stuff for the most part. Yes, there's a few exceptions because they think a particular toy looks cool, or their parents have showed them their old G1 DVDs, but by and large, kids care about the movies and whatever animated series is currently on. I think we, as adult fans, should be grateful that Prime is as good as it is, that the younger fans have quality shows like Animated and Prime to watch, cool toys to play with, and Hasbro still puts out Classics-style and Masterpiece stuff for us. The success of the Animated and Movie "piss and shit", and the TF Prime "crap" are what allow us to continue to get Classics and Masterpiece figures. When they reward us for being loyal fans for many years by giving us not one, but TWO new Masterpiece figures in the same year, banging on them for selling toys based on their current media to their primary demographic (which make the money to fund these Masterpiece releases) seems unfair and selfish.
I'm getting off-topic. I'm looking forward to this release, and I hope it uses the revised mold. I'll have to find a way to acquire the other MP Seekers if I get this, though. Thundercracker is all fine and dandy, but he really relies on his mold-mates to complete his look.
