MTMTE: Tarn, Roller and Agent 113

Postby Dead Metal » Fri Dec 20, 2013 2:40 pm

Motto: "Don't do drugs, beer's cheaper anyway!"
So we know that the idw verse has this secret character named Agent 113, an Autobot double agent within the DJD.
I've read a few fan theories my favourite being that he's actually Roller, Orion Pax's mysterious partner from before the war, and that he's undercover as Tarn, the leader of the DJD.
The fact that they both share a similar body build and some design elements supports this theory. There is also Vos.
778px-Mtmte7_djd.jpg

Tarn is the big guy in the middle, the one with the Decepticon insignia face. Vos is the creepy guy on the right.

Roller

However, we know Agent 113 drops his inside information via special non-lethal bullets he shoots into the left eye of an Autobot insignia of his "victims".

That requires a firearm, so far the only DJD members to be seen with a firearm are Tarn and Vos. However, Tarns firearms are more on the "everything goes boom" side, while Vos turns into a sniper rifle.

Vos also has the cover of "not speaking" modern-day Cybertronian, which will make him odd to the rest of the DJD and thus, easier to get away with not knowing things, since you know, he doesn't understand.

So I think Tarn is a red herring, while Vos is the actual Agent 113, but I believe Tarn really is Roller, after having switched sides fully convinced of the Decepticon way.

Just something that I've been thinking about, any input?

I just noticed this myself! Not more than one minute ago. Then I did a search to see if I was the only one who has realized this. But that's because I read MTMTE issue 36. I stand by you that Roller/Tarn is a Decepticon.

Roller: Who was that?
Orion Pax: Megatron. The miner from Tarn. Remarkable individual.
Roller: The activist? “You are being deceived” and all that?
Orion Pax: You should read him. It’s powerful stuff.

Then, with his convalescence following the battle at Alyon, he starts reading Megatron and - as there is no more effective sales pitch than that given by a friend - is swayed. But more than mere sway, he's completely converted in a horrifyingly zelotrous way.

Wow, I never thought I'd see this thread again, or that someone would actually replay to it XD

That's interesting with Roller, so I may not be completely stupid after all? :D

Can't wait to read that issue, just gotta wait till the trade comes out.

It's also worth noting that in MTMTE 36 Roller is shown being damaged, with extra emphasis put into the damage on his chestplate and the left side of his face, the same side that, in close up pictures of Tarn, we see damaged beneath his Decepticon Logo mask. I'd say you were dead on the mark with that assumption.

Roller also puts circuit speeders in his "kremzeek" drink, a clear connection to having an addictive personality. An addiction that could easily carry over into...transformation and burning out your t-cog, perhaps? :)

Oh wow, this is all kinds of cool. ^^
It's been a long while since I could take part in ongoing speculation of an ongoing TF comic, so seeing all these things that seem to point towards a theory of mine without it already being resolved is giving me a kick! :D

But we've seen Roller in present day IDW. Back in the -ation series, he was shown to be based on his toy form. And also, during the war, he was lsited above Wheelie as being suggested for missions in Spotlight Wheelie.

Personally, I think Roller took that massive bit of damage and gets rebuilt into his present day form/Prime's trailer. Based on Roller's alt mode in MTMTE 36, he looks very Prime trailer-ish. Even split open the same way. The damage he sustains badly cripples him mentally, but Prime doesn't want to give up on his old friend and turns him into part of his own alt mode, sort of as a way to care for him long term. Although that raises a question. Did Chromdome shake Roller's hand at the end?

And a quick reminder, when did we learn about Agent 113? The bullet in the Autobrand sounds familiar, but I can't place it. And I forgot it was someone in the DJD.

Optimus Prime's Roller is not the same as the character this topic refers to. The traditional drone Roller is non-sentient, and just an extension of Optimus Prime, remember how Optimus survived by downloading his consciousness into Roller, and how Megatron then even acknowledges that he forgot Prime had multiple components?
It has already been confirmed that drone Roller and the character this topic discusses are two separate things, read the trivia on his tfwiki page
http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Roller_(IDW)

Furthermore, that thing you're referring to in Spottlight Wheelie, was originally a joke (basically, a send someone nobody cares about and won't be missed) very likely to tie into the Lil Formers strips the issue included, this one to be exact. Which is a fan-made comic strip and has nothing to do with idw canon. IDW reprinted it, along with another one showing Wheelie that he can be Prime, after Roller's been Prime. Both are jokes, based on how unpopular he was/is in the fandom, and reprinted in the comic due to the irony that he actually got a comic all to himself.

Again, trailer Roller and robot Roller are two different guys, we'll likely find out what happened with robot Roller soon. As for his looks, you'll have to highlight the text to read it.

In "Bullet Points", a prose story featured in the Last Stand of the Wreckers Hard Cover, later brought up or at least hinted at again in MTMTE, during the story which introduces us to Pharma.

I know the lists were a joke. Still happened.

I was not aware this Roller was confirmed different to Prime's Roller. I thought it was a nice little piece of character, to have Prime looking after his crippled friend all these years ( I figured Roller was semi-sentient with massive brain damage, hence the almost 'drone like' quality of him and the mental damage I mentioned he suffered in the attack, with Prime downloading himself into the actual Trailer Combat Deck, which was purpose built to house Roller and is not sentient but is an actual drone).

It was a nice musing. Alas, if Roberts has confirmed though, there goes that theory.

Though that wiki article does point out everyone forget Roller was missing. Which answers my question that Chromdome did NOT shake Roller's hand, so Roller would retain all those memories.

Perhaps Roller became Tarn because of the betrayal that his super outlier friends all abandoned him and forgot about him? Thus explaining his.... over eagerness to kill Autobots?

I've been out of the game too long, I need to re-read alot of the MTMTE stuff and have a refresher.

The Lil Formers stuff is non canon, and thus did not happen. The List Ultra Magnus has is in more of a gray area now though, but in context not something that can be used to explain what happened to Roller.

I can't comment on the more recent stuff, because I only read the trades.

OK, something I just noticed due to the preview of MTMTE #39 thread. Which makes the possibility of Tarn being roller and maybe even 113 more likely.

Helex also has firearms, I quote what I said there:

Me wrote:When looking for any kind of proof to maybe support the Tarn is agent 113 thing, I did come across something fairly interesting. You see the whole thing that I went back and forth between Tarn and Vos being Agent 113 was based on the way the messages are delivered. It had to be any one of those, because the rest had no projectile weapons.
I'm wrong, there is a third, Helex!
Most of the time we see Helex use his large primary arms to crush and smash, but in the flash back story parts on the second Lost Light, we see one panel of him ripping Pipes apart (exactly the same way Overlord did with Guzzle in LOTW), while he's doing that, his holds two pistols in his smaller arms and shoots at other Autobots. And unlike most of the gun fire we see, they're not rays or lasers, but projectiles.
On top of that his face is blackened out, in the scenes he partakes in violence in, something that doesn't happen with any other DJD member. It's something I notice early on with him, while every one is shown with joy on their face while murdering, in every issue they're in, you can barely make out his face when he's in battle, mostly because it's either not shown, or he's too far away for there to be detail in his face you could see, or like in this case shadows. On top of that when we do see his face, he either looks concerned or angry.

Not saying that it's him, but it would be something Roberts would pull of.

In the end, it turned out that none of the DJD were Roller. That was a red herring.
