The 500 finally kicked off, and I haven't seen a thread for this yet, so i'll kick things off.

Anyone else see the accident that lit the track on fire?

Yeah, that was scary. There was nothing left of Montoya's car.

It just sucks that Kenseth won the 500.

GO KYLE!!!

It would have been good if MWR gave those other 5 races to Mark Martin as well. I really want to see him win a title, even with not-top-notch equipment that he has now.

Anyway, finally Chad Knaus and Jimmie Johnson are getting what they deserve. Hopefully they won't climb out of that hole the rest of the year. Who knows how much crap they got away with during their championship years. I doubt more than 2 of those titles were won legitimately.

Oh, and...

GO KYLE!!!

Well, I think my man Jeff Gordon is finally falling off the wagon. He just hasn't had any consistency since about 2004. His car is never really good.
On another sad note, Trevor Bayne is out of a job next week in the Nationwide Series. I don't get it. Casey Mears is with a tier 3 team and gets Geico on his car for the whole season, finishes a few laps down every race, yet still has a huge sponsorship in the top series. Yet, a young guy who gets top-10 to top-5 finishes in the Nationwide Series every week and is bringing a former champion Cup team back from the grave can't get a sponsorship or full time ride in any series. Hmm...

Well, this year I wouldn't say it's not top-notch. MWR has had some really great race cars this year. Truex and Martin have been running in the top 3 in every race. Clint Bowyer has been plagued by bad luck but they're still a young team and I think they'll get out of it eventually. So, even though Mark isn't going for the title, I wouldn't be surprised if he visits victory lane this year.

At least Jimmie didn't win. And his car looked hideous.

Well, at least it's a change from the last paint scheme. Lowe's really has a knack for having the most boring paint schemes for the most consecutive years. But this year it's really plain and it'll go stale in a few months, just like the #24 car did with the flame and firestorm paint schemes from '07-'11.
And I'm equally as happy that Jimmie didn't win. I'm glad Tony Stewart is still staying a top contender.

At least it wasn't the rainbow paint job from the 90s.

Yeah, I like Smoke. He's fun to watch. Hopefully he surpasses at least Jimmie, if not Dale and the King, by the time he's done.

But this week, they're going into Kyle's house. Unless he gets wrecked out by some idiot like Harvick, I think this is Kyle's race to lose. Bristol has been his bitch for the last few years. Though I thought it was pretty stupid he trashed his guitar trophy a few years ago, he has every right to boast about his success at Bristol.

And I predict that not only will Biffle not win a title, he will be in one of the last 3 spots going into the Chase.

So, Penske has been cranking out wins since last year and they're going to ditch Dodge for it? I dunno, but Keselowski and the Dinger looked pretty good out there today.

And, as I predicted, all three MWR cars came at full charge. They've been a force to be reckoned with even though they get little publicity.

And finally, of course, just as I thought "Jeff Gordon's going to get up to the leader and win! I know he will!" he gets his tire shredded by an exhaust pipe. Seriously? When does that ever happen? I think he's hexed or something.

It's official: Jeff Gordon is hexed.

Good. Hopefully he drags the other 3 Hendrick cars with him.

I think Chad Knaus is already tampering with the other three teams at the shop so he doesn't have to compete with them.

I can't wait for Talladega. My favorite race of the year. Hopefully Kyle makes it 2 in a row. It was awesome to see him finally win, especially doing it by keeping Dale Jr. out of Victory Lane.

I knew you'd comment again if Kyle won...
I can't wait for Talladega either. It's my favorite also. I personally hope Harvick doesn't win most of all, that's all I care, or Kyle Busch, because I still don't like him either. If either of them can show a sign of maturity this season I may change my mind. Oh, yeah, I forgot about Jimmie Johnson too. But I'll take any of the Hendrick cars besides him. Jeff Gordon could really use a good race for points, but Talladega can be either redemption or death. I know his career may be stuck in a hole right now, but I've been a fan of him since I was 3, so I'm not changing.
I think I'd like to see Carl Edwards win the most though. He doesn't have one restrictor plate race trophy to his name in any series, plus he could use an end to the dry spell that blocked him from the championship. Trevor Bayne could pull another one out of the hat too, which would be great for him since he has no job right now.

:P

Yeah, Harvick is a bitch. If Kyle doesn't win, I'd like to see Mark Martin win. Even if it doesn't matter for his season. He was my favorite until he retired the first time and Kyle also came up to the Cup series.

Unfortunately, Mark Martin isn't racing this week because he doesn't like Talladega. He never raced it when he was with Ginn/DEI either. So Waltrip is in this week, ready spin out everyone in his path. Hurray.

Oh crap. When was the last time he was actually behind the wheel in a race?

Well, the Shootout this year if that counts, and the last before that was Dega in the fall last year. I believe he spun cars in front of him in both of those events. He did try to qualify for the Daytona 500 this year for some 4th tier team backed by his MWR sponsors, but he didn't qualify.

Wow, what a great race! And Kyle Busch didn't win! (oops, did I say that?)
And it looks like Danica lost her temper after Hornish boxed her in. So much for old friends...

Oh, and if you guys haven't seen Kurt Busch's paint scheme for the Cup series, you're going to laugh.

Keselowski. Ugh. :BANG_HEAD:

But at least Rowdy is back on track and getting top 3s. Hopefully it stays that way and he'll be high up when the Chase comes around.

And Hendrick (and especially Dale Jr.) was denied a victory yet again. :APPLAUSE:

Since you show your joy for Hendrick's failure to reach 200 wins, I hope Happy Harvick gives Rowdy a nice little DNF at Darlington.
However, I think Junior's due for retirement soon if he can't win one race by the end of his contract. He's really just taking up space at Hendrick which could be given to someone of higher potential.

As long as he doesn't cry and bitch when Kyle retaliates.

Like maybe his father...?

When does his contract expire?

- Believe it or not, Kyle Busch has been prone to douchebag tendencies. Oh yeah, he intentionally wrecked someone last year. He also was penalized another time, where he gave the official an obscene gesture and got penalized a second time.
- Harvick can find a way to whine about anything. Because nothing is ever his fault. Especially when he causes wrecks that he ends up getting wrecked in.
- I don't know when Joonyer's contract ends. All I know is that he signed an extension last year. Trevor Bayne could do a better job than he can.

200. 'Nuff said.

Did anyone happen to catch where one of the #39's pit crew members went ballistic on the #51 team? What an idiot. He had no right to act like that. So, basically if the car in front of you spins out, and you slow down and the car behind you doesn't slow down in time, it turns into an intentional wreck by the car that first spun out? Seems legit. :-?
