Man, all this third-party awesomeness is just killing me. A lot of this stuff makes Hasbro look weak, and they've been doing great lately. (In my book, anyway.)

Yes they can. It will be very interesting to see if VW allows this to continue. If they won't let a big company like Hasbro with tons of money to roll with an actual VW vehicle, a little company like iGear doesn't stand a chance.

I believe it depends if this toy comes with a gun or not. since, if I recall correctly, VW was OK with Hasbro making an Alt Bumblebee based of the New Beetle as long as it has no gun, it was Porsche who absolutely didn't want to be associated with Transformers.

I wouldn't be so sure.
Car companies are notoriously protective of their copyrights and trademarks. This could be seen as a major violation of that if the lawyers decide that the toy looks close enough to the vehicle to warrant a court case.

Looks good but i'm still waiting for that Sharkticon! That's the figure fans really need. It's pretty expensive for many to buy on ebay and hard to find complete.

Maybe this will see a release 2 years from now if at all. So i won't hold my breath or even care.

It won't matter at all any more, as Porsche and Volkswagen have merged as of some time this year (if my memory serves me correctly)

On a side note - I don't see the point of this. When G1 Bumblebee was actually first made, the Beetle was one of the most popular cars in the world, and a fairly common sight (and as a kid I knew what a Lancia Stratos, Contach, Corvette, DatsunZX as well, since they were all still pretty cool cars at the time). I like to see Transformers "evolve" as new cars come into fashion, its kinda neat to see design fads in cars change over time, especially when its through a hobby like toy collecting.

Further note - the old Beatles actually have the same mount as a Porsche911, making an engine swap much easier than it seems, although it will stick out the back somewhat (engines sticking out of cars only adds to the cool anyways)

Well the bot mode is a fail. I love 3rd party stuff but not with legends articulation. I expect high detail, articulation, and a collectors focus if I'm going to shell out 3rd party dollars.

Agreed. I was in until I saw the bot mode. Unless the final product is a lot better I'll be passing on this.

They're trying to give germany a clean new slate free of the past... don't want a poor jewish kid to see the beetle, and then transform it, and then see the gun in his hand, and tear up.... and have a wierd memory that...is more of a day dream nightmare about a big robot beetle running around commiting genocide, riiigghhhttt?

Looks like they re-skinned the Universe Legends Class Bumblebee.

Easy pass, thanks for playing.

I-Gear have updated their Facebook page again, they added 5 new images to their "New WIP small stuff" album. These updates show the robot-mode of their new Bumblebee figure, which is a a "re-shell" of Universe 2.0 Legends Class Bumblebee with VW Käfer car parts.
We have mirrored one image, if you wish to see the rest just click here.

And as a Comparison, the original Universe 2.0 Legends Class Bumblebee:

This is going to flop. I wouldn't spend a dime on it.

This is less than meets the eye or more crap than meets the eye, I don't know what to choose from.

Since I don't collect Legends figures I didn't even realize it was basically a reskin on an existing BB, that sucks.

Yeah I know, horrors !!! After all these WW2 vechicles somebody might compare Good ol Bumblebee to Hitler. Forget about Lugnut looking like the Enola Gay. Forget that Highbrow looks like the P-38 Lightning that won the battle of Midway. Forget Divebomb looks like the Red Baron. Lets pick on poor little Bumblebee instead because he is such a war-monger

I'm sorry but that looks horrible. I've seen worse, but I've seen much better looking pieces. I'm not into Legends but if I was I'd pass on this.

Definite pass. I didn't buy that mold to begin with. Not sure what i-Gear is thinking with this.
