Ninebreaker's TF Comics & Toys Collection (but mostly comics)!

Postby NineBreaker » Mon Apr 30, 2012 5:42 pm

I'm a big TF fan, but I think my collection is a bit different than most. I collect TF artwork / comics. I don't think longboxes are interesting to anyone, so I'll spare you the trouble and say that I have all the Marvel G1 & G2, Dreamwave , and IDW comics.

Other than that... here's what I got that I see as my "best stuff".

Toys... I suppose so... I have a lot more but they're in storage as of now.

I have 2 of the Soundwaves, 1 MIB and 1 opened, but all there from SDCC and my favorite autobot, Blaster.

Few more comics with the highlights pulled out of the more recent series. Nothing too great about the older ones except that I do have them and that's nothing really special eh?

BTW... I really like the Wreckers...

Some nice, not zombified Transformers from the Infestation series.

I really like all you original artwork - you must have spent quite alot! I have a couple of original pages from UK G1 stories, which I have framed. Maybe you should frame some of your favourites to show them off! Very cool collection :APPLAUSE:

Thanks! It's been like a second job tracking some of this stuff down (seriously, one night I got an email at like 11 telling me to put a claim on some things asap), but it's been worth it i think. :D

I image then a lot of the art you picked up is Wildman's G1 UK stuff. That's pretty desirable among UK fans. He did a great job on the art, but polarized people with his style.

I have framed a number of things already, but a lot of them are just black outlines and it's really a mess where I display them :-(

Here's one of them I got back from the framer's though. I would say it's one of my favorites since Blaster is my favorite 'bot. It's got a sketch of the cover and the inked cover along with the comic.

Image

I just picked up another piece from eBay recently, so we'll see how that one looks.

That is a really cool piece. I'm going to hang mine up finally this weekend, so I'll take a picture. I have one Wildman panel and one Jeff Anderson one, where Megatron finally kills Straxus (or does he?)

Nice collection NineBreaker. Collecting transformers isn't always about the toys so its always good to see the different avenues fellow collectors take.

Im fortunate enough to own the original inked pencil work of LSOTW #3 page 7 by Guido Guidi. And amongst the hundreds of figures I own its in my top ten most prized items. Its something I hope to expand on in the future.

Again, well done on amassing a really nice individual collection. :APPLAUSE:

Thanks quickmixed!

Yep, Guido's stuff is really something. I'm a huge fan of his style. I do have a lot of toys and I had some great memories with those already, so for me I had just focused on getting the stuff I never could play with or never had.

Every once and awhile something really gets me so I do buy it, but it's been awhile since I got Blaster and Soundwave. I even had to crack a Soundwave open because I NEVER got to play with him. One to rock and one to stock as they say in shoe collecting. I've been more of a "comic book guy" so to speak and once I got all the comics I wanted (not terribly challenging on eBay and going to Comic Con), I was like... What's next? This seemed the logical next step.

Thanks for the kudos and if you ever want to chat about comic art, I'm game. Check out some of the galleries on comicartfans.com too since there's a LOT of Transformers stuff. Livio Ramondelli (Autocracy / Chaos) and Guido have galleries up there.

Update from Marvel: Generation 2! A new page I just got. It's a great shot from G2 and even though the continuity, "doesn't matter" anymore, it was still my first TF comic.

You're welcome, I checked out comicartfans and its a great website. Is this where you pick up most of your stuff? I noticed that there is quite a bit of art for sale. I also think I may have found your collection on there. You have Guido Guidi's original art of the Macadams oil house? Thats a great score and a great piece!

Like I said, Im new to the comic art collecting side of things and I think I may have discovered my new Holy grail. My favourite original Marvel comic is #14 when we are introduced to the series 2 autobots. As you would know, in this issue we also get to meet Brick Springstern. Im a massive Springsteen fan and budiansky's cover with hoist and the "the tenth avenue band" is one of my all time faves. Have you ever seen any original art from #14 for sale?

Well, to be honest a lot of my stuff I did find through eBay over the past few years and through people I've contacted through eBay (watch out for that, heh). Recently, I have been buying from some vendors (Nostalgic Investments and Scott Eder, great guys to work with) online and at comic shows. Sometimes artists have advertised on their blogs, like Andrew Griffith and I've gotten something from him too. That Jazz cover.

I did get that Macadams piece from the Transformers Ultimate Guide! Thanks for the compliments again. I really do like Guido's TF style.

I've actually just asked eBay sellers who sell TF pages sometimes and people are willing to deal if they have more pages rather than go through eBay. I give very fair (probably a bit too generous) prices I feel. Just depends on the person you deal with.

I use the site's search feature and then go to Dealer Results or Classified Results to keep me updated on what the some of the major comic art vendors are selling out there to avoid browsing all sites all the time.

I can't say that I have seen any issue 14 stuff for sale. No one on CAF seems to have it, but I think it's out there. Just a matter of who has it, heh.

You seriously have an impressive amount of artwork!
Some of the pieces are really really nice, actually a little bit jealous.

I like your choice of focusing on that rather than the toys, and you've actually inspired me to post some of my comic-related pieces in my thread too.

Thanks for the compliments!

Comic art and commissions are pretty cool to collect and it's a pretty unique expression of my collections. I loved the toys and I still appreciate the ones I have (never really sold / got rid of them), but Blaster and Soundwave (believe it or not) were the only two toys I had a special affinity for and the comics were (and continue to be) a fun way to continue the story.

Does this mean you will be buying the FoC versions of the two?
They look quite nice, and Voyager size to boot. Not my taste, scale-wise, but worth a shot if they're in your favourites' list!

Perhaps if I run into them at a store I would not be adverse to buying them.... It's been awhile since I've looked into buying more toys, but I'll have to check these out. I'm a big proponent of going to the store and buying things (other than comic art ;) ), so if I bump into it, then potentially.
