Not buying Botcon 2013 stuff due to Third Party

So I don't think I will be buying any BOTCON 2013 toys because of all the awesome third party and Masterpiece offerings coming out this year. Unless they offer something awesome... I think they really need to step up their game if they want to compete for my money at least.

Anyone else feeling the same way?

For me it depends a lot on what they are offering.

I bought all the TFA stuff a couple years ago, because I'm a fan of TFA.

Last year's set was pretty lackluster for me, so I only picked up Red Tracks, and the Insecticon Junkions. That was all that caught my attention.

This year they are plugging Machine Wars, which is NOT an area of interest for me. But if any of the specific molds or characters look good, I may spring for some of them.

By and large though, I'm not really interested in much that is coming through the normal Hasbro channels. The MP stuff is great, and I'm getting that, but that is mostly coming from Takara. (Hasbro should have that coming out simultaneously, IMO.)

The 3P stuff is what is really keeping me interested in the hobby.
I rarely hit the homepage for seibertron anymore. The 3P forum is my first stop, and then I read the news sidebar just in case any info pops up that ISN'T about Kreo or Botshots.

I'll most likely get most of Botcon's offerings, because the theme is of interest to me.

It's only money

I'm not hugely into Botcon. I'll get the odd figure if it's relevant. I'm not into Machine Wars, so that won't likely happen this year. As for Fun Pub, this year the only figures that've caught my eye was Scourge and SG Blaster / SW, but they have to wait a bit since I just put MMC's Tantrum on preorder.

I gotta agree, it's been mostly 3rd party products that are on my wish list lately. With Generations focusing more on lines that don't interest me, I don't really view the main page either. Although there's still official TFs I want.

My thoughts exactly.

I do intend to go to Botcon though. For me it's also about an excuse to check out other cities that I would otherwise probally never visit. Machine Wars is kind of like late G1/early G2 era I believe, so it does spark an interest for me. Even though I never owned any of the original line. But as soon as Botcon does anything Beast Wars, Ill be skipping the convention. It seems 3rd parties are finishing up the classics line for Hasbro and they are moving on to other continuities targeting younger audiences.

There are so many items I want right now and in the next few months, so ordering a $300+ gift box and various 2-packs for about $100/pop will be pretty difficult.

I don't know too much about the Machine Wars line, but I think the decision to buy or not to buy (depending on finances) will come down to the molds being used, the color scheme, remolded pieces: essentially, the whole package. 3P purchases don't necessarily prevent me from buying other things, but definitely eat up my spendable income per month. If I really want the offerings from this year's BC, I'll find a way to get them. I know I'll likely pay secondary market prices anyways as I'm not planning to go to the event this year.

I'm still interested in lots of Has/Tak stuff. the MP line, the United Line FOC Grimlock, FOC blaster, FOC wreckers. I still have plenty for has/tak stuff. but for high end, high price items I don't believe I will be spending that money in BOTCON stuff like I did last year. 5 repaints with new heads versus the Stunticons? I'll take the Stunticons thanks

Also I think Has/Tak will continue with classics... I mean they're still giving us new characters, the new Ratbat looks awesome!

If the MW botcon prime is good i'll get it :BANG_HEAD:

other than that I try to only let 3P and Masterpiece take my money since I've got most of the classics guys that I thought were good.

If I can make it through 2013 with all the presented offerings without being totally bankrupt my collection might be near the completion mark!!!

....untill some 3P company makes something I can't live without :BOOM:

If Botcon has any Beast Wars repaints I'll be all over it, otherwise I'll likely be skipping it (as usual).

Not saying it will happen, but if there was a G1 Botcon repaint of Energon Scorponok I would literally throw money at them, so it all depends, I guess we have to wait and see.

Nope. I'm buying all the Botcon figures because I always do. I don't regret any of them. Botcon is all my big love for the fandom all rolled up into one awesome weekend per year. Some thrid party stuff might have to fall by the wayside to free up funds. I get what I want eventually though.

True, but that's more about the experience and the event than it is the toys, right? I can certainly understand that. It's a chance to meet your friends from all over the world who share your interest in plastic crack and all things Transformers.

For those like me who do not attend such events, the figures themselves have to stand on their own which makes it much harder for them to be worth the price unless they're really something spectacular (which in my opinion, they generally aren't, but then again I'm also quite a picky bastard :P).

I normally don';t buy Botcon stuff anyway. I've bought a few items, but not many. Machine Wars... doesn't interest me. So I'll be passing there.
