It's not awful because of the mold, necessarily. It might look okay in robot mode if it were properly transformed. It's the incredible clash and mix of colors that make it
worthy in my opinion. Brown/bronze, lavender, red, black, yellow..... just such an ugly clash of non-complementary colors. I get that Hasbro is trying to appeal to the Playskool crowd with all the bright colors in this line, but these colors aren't even complementary. At least Ripclaw's red and green, Soundwave's blue and yellow, etc don't clash. They look silly in some instances (and so do all the spikes and such), but they mesh together. Starscream's colors just do not go together at all.
And that jet mode is absolutely horrible. Looks like a pile of flying parts that look NOTHING like Starscream's jet mode.
