I wonder if you could add the chrome effect on the standard figures at home with paint?

If you had paints with a metallic sheen, maybe. Real "chrome" is actually vacuum-metalised plastic and as such requires a separate set of machinery. I recall one Japanese fan commissioning a factory to completely metalise his Fortress Maximus!

O_O That takes dedication. It must have come out beautiful though.

Still, i hope this was done fairly recently or to a very high standard- my RID Prime's stomach chrome has very sadly almost entirely flaked away (although the translucent blue-green underneath actually looks pretty sweet...) and the thought of such a labour of love/money flaking away saddens my heart.

I know you can use paints to get an effect very similar to vacuum-metallization, but I think you're right that true chrome (like the kind you got on the Microman line) needs special machinery.

That lovely candy metallic sheen that figures like the old Soul of Chogokin Evangelions (not the SPECs) had is completely possible with paint though. I'd love to see a Prime done in candy-apple red, maybe with a metallic flake effect.

If I decide to purchase the Voyagers of these two, this is the route I will go. The chrome may be in some silly places on Prime, but at least it breaks up that bland hardly any paint applied scheme used on the regular retail release. The addition of the mouthplate is a real plus too.

Get ready for more scrappy looking weak skeleton form robot modes from yet another crappy movie. Man I had hopes they wouldn't completely blow it this time but no luck. The only thing that they got right is optimus primes vehicle mode. But then he transformes into a skeleton looking robot. Where's the beef?

Ah, Hasbro, who needs stand up comedy when we have your business decisions to look at. Seriously random chrome is silly. What both of these figures needed to hook collectors was proper paint apps, Optimus to bring out his detail, and Grimlock in his movie colours (what we have seen in the trailer at least.) Chrome wouldn't be a bad thing in the right places on Prime...but...I mean this is random and silly... #-o

It's worrying how badly they just don't have their finger on the pulse with this anymore...

hasbro doesn't understand how to use chrome properly.. perfect example is takara's buster prime.. that's the PERFECT use of chrome.

robots looking like skeletons?.. wow that guy has no clue what he's talking about.. maybe in his world all of the robots are supposed to look like bulkhead. . that's comical.

The funny thing is, that shot makes me like that toy a lot more. In any case, I actually love the paintjob and vehicle mode on it, but the robot mode kinda makes me cringe.

@Fires_Of_Inferno: A bit off topic, but hating the entirety of anime seems a bit...hasty? I mean, crap like Naruto and Dragon Ball maybe, but Miyazaki movies, Akira, Evangelion, Gunbuster, anything by Satoshi Kon... Really?

I get that a lot of movieverse bots do look skeletal, but the dinos don't. Grimlock especially is one chunky beast, and Slug(?) has a lot of bulk to him too. Love the way they've gone with these guys, especially their heads.

While Ryan is preparing the galleries for the by now actually quite anticipated Transformers: Age of Extinction Voyager figures Evasion Mode Optimus Prime and Grimlock, here at Seibertron.com we've decided to give you a bit of an appetizer - check out below the scans of the instruction sheets for the two figures, showing the 18 steps to transform them, and ..very little else. As always, leave your thoughts in the Energon Pub, and make sure to come back later this week for the full galleries!

After years and years of obscure and hard to decipher instructions leaflets, Hasbro finally do it right! At last, the ones who are neither TF experts or those who have a hard time understanding puzzles will not be left in the dust.

The funny thing is, I didn't need the instructions at all to transforms both figures!

so with this toy and the new movie, we see Prime being in his original alt form but still using the live action robot model. so if this was possible, why didn't they just use that alt form to begin with? or was it bay who wanted a long nose cuz it was more rad or something?

The reason he gave was because the long nose truck has more mass than the flat nose. That way he could make Optimus look much bigger.

But then you watch the movies and realize that scale means as much to him as it did in the G1 cartoons (just look at the scene where he's holding Sam and Mikala, then the scene where he picks up the glasses). So really can't tell what the reason is, but the one he gave works for me.

Biggest problem with these instructions is that they are in reverse order from how the products are packaged. Getting closer to making these simpler for the average person/parent/child.

d'oh!
I've always liked how the Japanese TFs I've got have had instructions for both ways. Maybe it's not all of them (I tend not to spring for the imports) but it is quite helpful sometimes, as occasionally "reverse instructions" doesn't always seem to work right.

Hasbro recently started doing that in the past couple of years and Takara followed suit. It's nice to have the instructions that way.
