It's too bad I'm not fond of the whole "camera" theme... because these look really well done.

I'm in. Preordered and stayin' that way. I LOVE the bot modes. I have the PE version of Reflector and as neat as it is, I was incredibly underwhelmed. This is the kind of homage to Reflector I've been waiting for.

Dont like. That is definitely "not Reflector". Any less G1 and it could be a Hasbro product. The PE version was by far the superior of the two. It's a shame PE didnt go scout size though...

looks decent in both modes. the size is good, but like they've done with Devy, and as Rated X says, it is a very Hasbro-esque updated interpretation of the concept. Almost like the mother of all Real Gears. Quite underwhelmed that there doesn't seem to be much in the way of accessories, what with the big ol chunk of lens there. I passed on the PE version because it was tiny tiny tiny, but at least there was a lot of playability with that one.

The lens has a seam in the middle. It splits apart and all the other bits turn into weapons and such. I saw a video from TFCon I believe that showed at least a bit of it. I'm sure TFC just haven't revealed everything it can do yet.

The camera mode is supposed to be "NEO" but is already out-dated. Who uses cameras like that other than paparazzi or foreign tourists ? They got the robot size right, but they really should have gone G1. The Hercules bot modes werent this far off from the cartoon. You cant have both modes "NEO" at least Hasbro makes the robot modes look G1 cartoon accurate.

Had they made the heads cartoon accurate, it would have been enough to make this truly must buy. I think there's enough there in the robot modes to evoke the cartoon, save for the heads. Unfortunately, the heads are one of the most important things.

Modern digital SRL cameras do look like this. That's what it's supposed to be which is why it has such a massive lense and why they compare it to a modern Canon digital SLR camera.

It's the type of camera that professional photographers use.

And I used to work in an electronics store that sold digital cameras. Yes, tourists and photography buffs use these types of cameras as well, but they're far better (and way more expensive) than the small, compact, more modern looking, cheapy digital cameras used by most people.

I also don't think I would have liked it if the size of the bot modes had to get sacrificed in order to make a credit card sized camera.

Besides, I don't think too many will be keeping them in alt mode anyway (though it is neat that they look so realistic in alt mode).

I think it looks pretty sweet. I like the alt mode and on the rare occasion that i display my figs in alt mode (Seacons, Terrorcons, Dinobots, Headmasters, my meager collection of Beast formers and Predacons......i guess not that rare but rare for a none beast mode TF) i would keep this in alt mode. Oh.....and i keep my Unicron in planet mode.

But to get back on topic....The bot modes are kinda boring too me. I appreciate the attention too detail in the camera mode. Also the paint apps indicating the various functions of the camera are crisp, sharp and in abundance. The neck strap is a nice accessory too boot.

how much is it?

Don't mind him, he's out of touch with current times.

It's the standard DSLR body, which is one of the biggest camera markets on the planet. It looks more Cannon than Nikon.

Finally got a chance to open this guy up and wanted to throw in my two cents.

First off, it's not "Reflector" to me (or not "not-Reflector", as it were). The styling, colors, and size discrepancy between members simply doesn't work as a G1 homage. Even though Perfect Effect's not-Reflector kit is ridiculously small, it works as an homage much better.

That having been said, I LOVE this set for its own merit. The modern camera design is well-executed and all the elements fit together seamlessly. The robots might suffer a bit from the standard TFC "blockiness" aesthetic, but they don't look cheap for it. The LED light is an interesting addition, although I imagine I'll be taking that battery out soon to avoid a risk of acid leakage.

In short, while this really has no-place in a strict G1 CHUG collection, I very much can see these guys running around the TF universe, filling in for Reflector and Laserbeak on their days off. If you have a photography affinity of any sort, or just like more unusual alt modes, I would strongly suggest picking this set up!
