TRANSFORMERS™: WAR FOR CYBERTRON EXPLORES A BRAND NEW, PIVOTAL CHAPTER IN TRANSFORMERS LORE

New Action Game Delves Deep into the TRANSFORMERS Universe, Introduces All-New Visualizations of Iconic Characters in 2010

Santa Monica, CA – December 16, 2009 – Experience the legendary battle between the AUTOBOTS and DECEPTICONS as Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) announced today that Transformers™: War for Cybertron is in development by award-winning High Moon Studios. Based on Hasbro’s legendary TRANSFORMERS property, the game takes players to the TRANSFORMERS characters’ home planet of CYBERTRON for a new look into the epic story of the grand civil war that spawned one of the most brutal rivalries of all time.

“Transformers: War for Cybertron is an origins story, taking players on a gripping, adrenaline-fueled journey that precedes the TRANSFORMERS characters’ arrival on Earth,” said Rob Kostich, head of marketing, licensed products, Activision Publishing, Inc. “The game transports players to a living, metallic planet where they will battle as giant converting robots in single player, online co-op or head-to-head multiplayer matches that are fully immersive from start to finish.”

“For the first time, Hasbro is working with Activision to drive the TRANSFORMERS fiction forward into new story arcs, demonstrating pivotal moments in Transformers history that defined who they are,” said Aaron Archer, Senior Design Director, Hasbro. “This remarkable video game helps us to tell a critical event in TRANSFORMERS lore that will be used as canon for future storylines in a way we could have only dreamed of a few years ago. It is a testament to the success of the TRANSFORMERS brand and a key element to the story we look forward to telling in 2010 and beyond.”

Transformers: War for Cybertron features two distinct storylines: the AUTOBOT campaign tells a story of heroism to save their home planet against overwhelming odds, and the DECEPTICON campaign tells a story of an unquenchable thirst for power to control the universe. For the first time in a TRANSFORMERS title, fans will be able to play the game with their friends through team-based online co-op, or go head to head in a variety of intense, online multiplayer game modes. The game features a sci-fi art style that introduces to fans the entire living, metallic world of CYBERTRON, as well as all-new visualizations of the iconic TRANSFORMERS characters in their original Cybertronian forms.

Transformers: War for Cybertron is in development for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system, Windows PC, Wii™ and Nintendo DS™, and is not yet rated by the ESRB.

I really liked when they said that it is going to be a key to things ongoing in 2010, to me that statement means that it is going to tie into the new series and therefore the new toylines. AWESOME!!!!!!!

Using it as canon for future storylines...
Preceding the TransFormers' arrival on Earth...

Can it be true? Has decades of whining finally caught Hasbro's attention? This game looks absolutely fantastic, and it really sounds like they are setting up a great new storyline for future figures and tv series.

I'm hooked.

Awesome! Online team battles, that's what I wanted to hear! I assume that since Peter Cullen and Frank Welker are buisy, we will be getting (most likely) Gary Chalk and (hopefully) David Kaye as the voices of the two leaders? That would be awesome, sadly they might choose the more recent Corey Burton though. He can do a good voice, but I would personally much prefer David Kaye just cause Beast Wars was awesome. :PRED:

Firstly, that is one gorgeous picture of Cybertron! =P~

Too bad there's not also an offline split screen co-op option. I guess me and my husband will just be passing the controller every death/checkpoint.

I'm SO glad this game doesn't relate the the live action movies. It seems to loosly relate to G1 cartoon? If the story in the game is good, and maybe if we get a sequel to it, we may be looking at another continuity! I woldn't also mind reading supporting fiction for the game.

I'm also glad this is a shooter!

I assume that since Peter Cullen and Frank Welker are busy

What could be more important? I think they can spare a day in the recording booth for this!

Sorry but can somebody tell me why playing this on the Wii is so important? When the game was announced, half of you were worried sick that it might not get a Wii release. Now that it it's for sure there is rejoicing from on high. I really don't know what the appeal is and need to be enlightened. For me, given the choice between zany motion-controller and next gen graphics, I'll go with the next gen graphics every time. It just feels like taking a step backwards. Don't get me wrong, I know how fun the Wii is. I have one myself. I just don't know why waving the remote around occasionally is so much better than the cutting-edge visuals of the PS3 or XBOX. Especially with a game like this.

I think the issue might be that people have Wiis and don't want to buy another console...

Well if that's the case then I highly recommend getting a next gen console! A bit pricey but worth it!

YES!!!!! Wii!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The reason I rejoice, is that after 7 years of keepig the PS2, everyone around me asking what my gamertags and stuff were, I finaly decided to except my parents' offer to get the 360, when my sister butts in and asks for a Wii instead. So every since the info got out I've been dying and afraid it'd be not released on Wii. So I'm getting a Wii this Christmas, and now I'll have another reason to like it.

If it'a shooter then guess I'm going to skip it. I don't like FPS games.

If it is/was an RPG or action/adventure games I would be a very very happy Transfan. After playing almost every bloody FPS on the N64 I got and still am completely burned out on the FPS genre. If a demo is released on XBL I'll give it a try, but after the disappointment I had with the demo of Bioshock 1, I'm not holding my breath.

Still don't know about this game. The fact that it's a fps sounds like a major plus for me, hate rts type games. And I doubt this type of game would work as an rpg. But I'm kinda hating the look they went with on the characters. Soundwave just doesn't look right, the others, especially Megs, look like crap. And if these looks are going to be canon and the start of a new era, I think I still want out. This g1 type look crossed with the movie look has me totally turned off to this. Just blech!

First of all i have always been facinated with the planet Cybertron so this does look very interesting to me. But the whole online stuff scares me. If the game is anything like most of the xbox game i've played that support online this will be bad. If its anything like "RE"5 then i will not be getting this. But if it is unique to itself then i will be interested. I know i will get it on the DS, probably free, if you know what i mean. But for the bigger consels that is another story.

i would like it better if it has offline multiplayer and if after you finish a level you go to the ark where you can talk to other transformers change your character and customize them then choose another level in a free roaming fashion

but i dont care if its first person third person or whatever

I AM GETTING THIS GAME!

I do have reservations about the designs myself. If they're going pre-Earth, I'd have preferred designs closer to War Within. Dreamwave AND IDW used those designs or at least close variations. We even got War Within toys.

I'm not too pushed about the pointed shoulders but at least they look a lot closer to G1 than the Movie.

After the ROTF game where you don't even get to chose when to transform and the 2007 game which was a lot better but still lacked the Armada's game of being able to ram enemies in vehicle mode, I'm sceptical about Activision. I loved their early Spiderman games but their TF efforts could be better.

I too have waited 7 years to upgrade my PS2. Used to play a lot more computer games in my younger days before I got back into Transformers.

Despite my misgivings, I am still looking forward to this.

In the trailer, it's easy to spot Prime and Omega but do we have any idea who the other characters are, if indeed they are meant to be known characters?

Woo! New Cybertron wallpaper. Excellent.

The game looks like fun if you're into gladiatorial matches, but it doesn't seem to have much depth to it except for fightan and killan. :-?

I'm glad you have the bestest console in the world ever and that everyone who doesn't is obviously less of a human being than you. Congrats.
