You werem't kidding that he is hard to transform. That was alot of twisting!

Soundwave looks amazing though, a little small but I can't wait to get him. Thanks for the review

I'd be happy if they would make available a stand that extends for his canon arm. Luckily his joints haven't given way to the weight of the canon but it sucks for me to not be able to arm and pose him with it :-(

Agreed: I should have added pics, I really wish I could show off the wear on paint from transforming him (about 10 times).

I heard the add-on after market package helps with alot of problems with the fig but makes the barrel seem crooked, I don't have it so I cannot comment on my own.

I don't regret buying him, always thought the fragility was exagerated. It wasn't the hip clip on one side broke very easily. Despite that he is still a great figure, wish I would have bought 2 myself knowing that we has a display figure.

My review of TF: Animated Battle Begins pack. As the forum cuts pictures off, there's a link to each picture underneath it.

As pretty much everyone is probably aware, the UK has been blessed with the slightly early release of two TF: Animated toys, namely the Optimus Prime and Megatron Battle Begins 2 Pack at Toys R' Us. I went to Gloucester last week to buy this pack, and I now present my findings to you. NOTE: This review would have gone a lot smoother if I hadn't bought Legends class Movie Scorponok, who wanted in on the pictures. Damn stupid little...

Anyhoo, the pack comes with a DVD of the first episode. You'd think they could have at least included all three parts of the first story, but no. On the other hand, this really is just a bonus rather than the main event, so I'll try not to let it bother me. The toys themselves are the Deluxe versions of Cybertron mode Megatron and Earth mode Optimus Prime. Both sport some battle damage, but I don't think it really gets in the way. Let's have a look at them.
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/01.jpg
Sarcastic little buggers, aren't they? As you can see, Prime comes with his rocket axe, and Megs has his fusion cannon. Both have ball joints at their elbows, shoulders and hips. Their knees are hinged, and have rotators, Prime's below his knee and Megatron's above his knee. Something I haven't seen noted yet is that both have a "power punch" feature. If you twist their upper bodies a quarter turn to the right, they spring back to deliver a punch (assuming you positioned their arm). Personally, I think this is a pretty lame gimmick that I'd rather had been left out in favour of a posable waist. I've removed the springs from both figures and am looking into whether to just glue their waists in place, or try and leave them with some posability. Not a major problem, but a niggle nonetheless.

Size wise, both of them are Deluxe class, and are about average for that class. For a better idea of size, you can see them here next to Classics Optimus Prime:
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/02.jpg
Maybe a head shorter than Classics Prime. At this point, I should point out that Megatron can be a little tricky to pose. His cannon is really too heavy for the join on his left hip, so he tends to lean unless you pose him carefully. A little nail varnish on that joint will hopefully sort things out. At least on mine, the joints on both figures are a little loose. They'll hold a pose, but they'll fairly easily be knocked off it as well. Also, none of the three figures seems to hear the word "boogly" until it's too late.
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/03.jpg
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/04.jpg
As you can see, they don't feel much loyalty to other Transformers, possibly because of their Animated styling. Megatron has the better head posability, with it being possible to rotate his head, and slightly tilt it up and down. Prime's head is on a ball joint, but can't move because his transformation leaves his head locked in by his shoulders. Not a great piece of planning there, Hasbro.
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/05.jpg
This pose was a pain, as Megatron's cannon threatened to throw him off balance. I did get them into this without blu-takking them down, though, so they're not that bad.
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/06.jpg
You really can achieve some nicely dynamic poses with them.
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/07.jpg
Ah yes. One of Megatron's features is his cannon's ability to become this... sword-thing. It's not very good. It doesn't look like a sword, it doesn't work like a sword. It sucks. But you don't have to use it, so it doesn't matter. Yay!
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/08.jpg
By contrast, his fusion cannon looks pretty good.
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/09.jpg
Yeah, poor situational awareness. I hope the other Animated toys will be a little more alert.
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/10.jpg
Red hot Prime on Megs action.
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/11.jpg
Vehicle mode for Prime is really quite nice. As you can see, smaller than Classics Prime's truck mode, but a surprisingly solid truck mode. Megatron's mode suffers a little from "what the hell is it" syndrome, but the twin VTOL engines tie in nicely with the twin rotors of his Earth mode
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/12.jpg
My main gripe with Megatron is the visible head in vehicle mode. Shouldn't we be beyond this now? At least the red light-piping fits in with the red of his elbows, so this isn't too noticable a problem unless you view him from below... like you might do when playing with a toy aircraft. D'oh!
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/13-1.jpg
From behind, Megatron looks fine, whilst Prime suffers from his fists being visible. A fully enclosed cab would have been nice. Also, note the G1-esque colour scheme and the addition of smoke stacks not present on the animation model. Not quite sure why they've added these on, but they do look good so I'm not complaining.
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/14.jpg
Megatron's head a bit more visible here. A shame, but there it is. So, are these guys any good? Overall, yes. I'd give Prime 8 out of 10, losing points for the punch gimmick and the open cab when viewed from behind. Megatron is 7 out of ten, losing points again for the punch gimmick, the visible head and the overly heavy cannon. But they're good toys, and they've got me looking forward to the rest of the line, so I'd recommend them if you see them. And hopefully, they'll be equally happy living here.
Image
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y65/1TrueSledge/15.jpg
Or not.

Please feel free to ask questions if I've missed something out in my rambling style.

Weapon: Switch Blade Tail
Animated Voyager Class Optimus Prime Review

Vehicle mode (A futuristic fire truck with a powerful water cannon.)

Pictures

Image
Image
Image

Pros:

Solid.
Freewheeling.
Detailed.

Cons:

Smaller than you'd expect.

Overall a great part of this figure and well designed given the size and how it looks.
A solid :BOT: :BOT: :BOT: :BOT: :BOT:

Transformation

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z6HxtVrJaU4

Pros:

Automorph pushes his waist and legs downward and into place with a spin and a lock. (Really neat...*when* it works.)
Has a G1 Optimus style transformation, with a bit of Masterpiece Convoy's as well. (G1 the torso, Masterpiece the legs)

Cons:

The Automorph is spring and gear driven and if you skip a tooth on the gear, it absolutely refuses to work. It'll pop loose and the waist will come down, but the legs won't spin, so you have to do it all by hand. (Which is not a problem, but if the feature's there, I want it to work.)

Overall a solid and fun :BOT: :BOT: :BOT: :BOT: :BOT: (even with the Automorph problems.)

Robot mode

Image (Battle mask on)
Image (Battle mask off.)
Image (Holding both axes, the Deluxe's looks better.)
Image (Axe and water cannon.)
Image (Axe and water cannon on back)
Image (Rear view of axe and water cannon)

Pros:

Quite poseable (as the video and pictures show.)
Mask gimmick is much cooler in person (and not as ridiculous as the official photos would have you believe.)
Solid robot mode.
Water cannon actually works! (Yes, that's right. You can fill it with water, push back on the barrel and it'll spray!)

Cons:

Holes in fists are too tight and slightly at an angle, so it's difficult to place the weapons in there. (Or remove them.)
Shoulders could become loose and floppy with time.

Overall a solid robot mode and again a nice :BOT: :BOT: :BOT: :BOT: :BOT:

In conclusion: Voyager Class Optimus is the best Optimus of the line. (No I don't own Activators or Supreme "Roll Out And Command" Prime, but both of those are completely gimmick driven and that's their selling point.) He's one of the best Optimus figures ever made and he fits the animation model quite nicely. It's incredible that Hasbro just continues to churn out hit after hit with this line, and I recommend all of the figures (of course) but Optimus is one of those figures that sells the line for you. Well worth $20.00, you won't be disappointed! A fantastic :BOT: :BOT: :BOT: :BOT: :BOT: Go get 'im!

Animated SUPREME Rollout Command Optimus Prime PIC &VIDEO RE

Postby xSEANxLONGx » Tue May 20, 2008 3:51 pm

My Video Review of Transformers Animated SUPREME Roll Out Command Optimus Prime!

I Show of the Features, Details, Huge Axe, Lights, Sounds, Speech, Auto Transformation, and Size Comparison to Animated Leader Megatron, Animated Leader Bulkhead, Animated Voyager Optimus Prime, Animated Deluxe Optimus Prime, and Premium Movie Leader Optimus Prime.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ydqzSVQD8LY

This is like Leader Movie Optimus Prime and Ultimate Bumblebee Put Together. It pretty much transforms itself minus the legs and hands. It says "Rollout", "I Am Optimus Prime", "Let's Go", and "Bring It". He makes siren sounds, engine sounds, axe swinging sounds, punching sounds, and laughs when doing both. Also the transformation sound when he transforms. His eyes, siren, and headlights light up.

Headmaster Warrior Rodney Review and Mini-Gallery

Postby Repair Bay » Wed May 28, 2008 10:06 pm

Hey all, I figured this would be interesting to some of you guys. Recently, I acquired a rare Japanese figure: Headmaster Warrior Rodney. I've been very excited about this new find and figured I'd do a quick review and mini-gallery (bare with me, I don't do many of these).

First, for those of you that don't know about the Headmaster Warriors, they were Japanese exclusive figures. They were only the actual heads (having no real partner or transector of their own) and came packaged separately. Considering their size, and that they came out towards the end of the Headmasters series, these figures have become extremely rare (and forget the entirely white chase versions - . -).

I was lucky enought to acquire this figure MLC from a member over at TFW2005 for $256 shipped. It was worth it. This little guy is really neat. Neat color scheme, neat mold, of course, neat alt. mode. Like any other Nebulon, he can connect to any Headmaster body. And of course, he's only got a Takara stamp on him.

Let's start off with the color scheme. Simple, complementary colors, unique amongst his brethren. Hes main body and the face of his head mode are a nice royal purple, while his legs and arms are kind of a Mac 'n' Cheese orange. With his robot face and Headmaster eyes painted gold, I vote the color choices pure win (of course, I also like G2 neon colors :P ). Plenty of good things going on here.

Next, the mold and details of the little guy. He's got fairly unique detailing in both modes. His head mode looks as if it's supposed to be that of a samurai, and his robot mode seems to reflect that. Overall pretty cool looking in both modes, as even his robot mode's face seems to have a samurai-like faceplate. The only two gripes I really have about the mold is that 1.) his arms are really thin under his armor plating, pretty much being just pipes with hands at the end, although they're not too bad, and 2.) the crest on the top of his head mode. It flips down alot (though it certainly can stay in place), and it seems that Takara didn't even try to make it so that it would stay in place the whole time or be tight. Still a very small complaint, at that. Transformation is simple, pretty much like any other Headmaster.

So, I give this figure a 9 out of 10, and definitely worth the money if you like your Headmasters. For a little more info on these guys, you can check out their Wiki entries:

My vote for the HOF goes to my favorite Transformer, Kup, to the Headmasters (who still need new figures that aren't just the characters without their master components) and to seibertron.com for for being the ultimate TF resource.

Thanks. Yeah, these guy are like my holy grails. They're expensive little buggers, but they're worth it. (Hey, don't [i]you[i] know a few things about expensive little robots?)

Anyways, I plan to give reviews and pics as I get each one. There's just not enough information on these guys.

Maybe a head shorter than Classics Prime. At this point, I should point out that Megatron can be a little tricky to pose. His cannon is really too heavy for the join on his left hip, so he tends to lean unless you pose him carefully. A little nail varnish on that joint will hopefully sort things out. At least on mine, the joints on both figures are a little loose. They'll hold a pose, but they'll fairly easily be knocked off it as well. Also, none of the three figures seems to hear the word "boogly" until it's too late.

This pose was a pain, as Megatron's cannon threatened to throw him off balance. I did get them into this without blu-takking them down, though, so they're not that bad.

You really can achieve some nicely dynamic poses with them.

Ah yes. One of Megatron's features is his cannon's ability to become this... sword-thing. It's not very good. It doesn't look like a sword, it doesn't work like a sword. It sucks. But you don't have to use it, so it doesn't matter. Yay!

By contrast, his fusion cannon looks pretty good.

Yeah, poor situational awareness. I hope the other Animated toys will be a little more alert.

Red hot Prime on Megs action.

My main gripe with Megatron is the visible head in vehicle mode. Shouldn't we be beyond this now? At least the red light-piping fits in with the red of his elbows, so this isn't too noticable a problem unless you view him from below... like you might do when playing with a toy aircraft. D'oh!

TFX-01 Parallax aka City Commander Armor

Postby fenrir72 » Fri Sep 26, 2008 7:21 am

Motto: "Power to the strong and the right!"
Weapon: Plasma Cannon
Contents: Box
Plastic Frame
Trailer (armor.whatchamacalit)
Label sheet (aka licence plates for City Commander)
Instruction Manual comic entitled "TF-Parallax:Orion

Description of contents:

1. Manual: very slick 'cuz they portrayed a "Stargate" like foe instead of "Megatron" which then focused on the hero Orion ( in Powered Convoy diaclone colors) "transforming" which doubles as a how to attach the armor steps. (unlike the near useless manuals of the official TF products)

2. Trailer: which doubles as his armor (chest, shoulders, hip guard and boots)and his BFG! ,
Did I fail to mention you can attach the wind vane ion blaster and machine gun weapons of UM on to his shoulders plus the G-1 side missiles too?

3. Most important thing of all............don't forget to purchase either Ultra Magnus or Classic Optimus/ Henkei Convoy figure.

The Good: Starting from head to toe figuratively, let me start........the armor is a marvel in engineering, a great commercial type scratch and build set. The plastics used in this case looks superior to the "official" Ultra Magnus figure, smooth, sturdy with great paint applications not cheap looking. Another neat feature is how they employed feet suspension to give him feet stability.

The Bad: Let me think..............cosmetically the limitation of the Ultra Magnus mold makes his shoulders look too tight and narrow.

Okay...........his BFG is a tad heavy (due to the Ultra Magnus mold most likely), pulling down his "glove" and there is potential risk in breaking his "boot" with constant removal so this will be like a one way street transformation unless you buy two.

Price: Now that is a sore sticking point, but given that this is an "indie" type creation, aww heck, they don't have the same economic muscle as Tomy/Takara/Hasbro............for hard core fans only but truely worth the price mind you, again worth the price.
