This may not affect everyone on here, but in some countries (particularly in Latin America and Europe), Paramount Pictures has decided to move the release date of the upcoming Transformers: Age of Extinction movie around, to avoid it competing with the extremely popular World Cup sports event. The company spoke to Business Week about the decision, and you can read an extract below and the full interview here. To find out whether this changes your robot viewing plans, check the Paramount global release dates page!

When the robot hero Optimus Prime returns to movie theaters in June, his toughest foes might not be other transformers but Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Paramount Pictures (VIAB) will release Transformers: Age of Extinction in the U.S., Asia, and parts of Europe smack in the middle of soccer’s World Cup, which runs from June 12 through July 13 in Brazil. The studio will delay the movie’s launch date in many soccer-crazed countries until after the tournament ends to avoid a dent in the box office.

The World Cup, the second-biggest global sporting event after the Olympics, coincides with the peak of the movie industry’s big-budget summer season. “The World Cup will continue to pose more and more of an issue,” says Anthony Marcoly, president of international distribution at Paramount, which is owned by Viacom.

If it comes out in the UK on a Wednesday, that'd be alright.

Thursday 10th. Films are unlikely to be released on a day other than Thursday in the UK.

And knowing how you feel is half the battle.

By me, ToysRUses all seem to have the same Retaliation cases that the 5-Belows put out just over a month ago for half the price, so our toy aisles are still feeling the aftershocks of Hasbro/Paramount (who's decision was it again, exactly?) shooting their franchise in the foot 2 years ago, and will continue to do so well into next year.

Is this making anyone else think of that Tiny Toons ep that ended with dinosaurs playing soccer?
