Just this morning actually, everyone else in the house was asleep. I was on the computer, an I heard someone whistling at the other end of the room.

Also, I once saw a large shadowy figure walk into my room and then disappear.

Third, I heard a loud scraping noise in the basement as if a bin was being pushed across the floor. There was nobody else down there.

These experiences were most likely my mind playing tricks on me, but they're definitely weird.

Well, all of those things can be explained, but the shadowy figure, were you awake? like Wide awake?

Yeah, it was only like 6:30.

Ghosts are mostly just a side effect by gasses and old electricity lines reacting, triggering parts of your brain to hallucinate.
Often these hallucinations trigger a vague memory, be it something you've been told or something you actually experienced. Which explains the old man you and your family saw, you mother saw him as an hallucination told you, and maybe you even saw a picture of him at one point and then you all started to see him, but never in all rooms in the house, just in certain rooms or parts of it.

I personally used to believe in ghosts, but I'm not sure I do really, guess I lost that believe along with Santa and God.

I do believe in aliens though, simply for how unlikely it is that we're the only ones in this giant universe. However, I don't believe in aliens actually visiting our planet any time soon, those UFO sightings are just crazy people and/ or experimental aircraft by our own people. Oh and then there are the fakes that are often discovered and swamp lights, or ball lightings.

That doesnt explain ghosts thah have been seen outdoors, or underwater. That man was never mentioned once before then. The only picture she had of him was in lockbox that she hadnt open in nearly 23 years.

Point is, No one but her knew who he was, and she only opened it after I kept persisting...

Seriously, you mention you have a photo of the guy but you dont want me to see it? the argument when on for a while, but she would not win.

Not sure if I believe in ghosts, but I'd like to. I've never had a paranormal experience. Are they displaced living energy? Hallucinations? Who knows?

I believe in aliens, but I doubt they've been here yet. Just seems very scientifically far fetched to think they've actually made it here without us noticing. Or have we noticed? The government keeps lots of secrets.

Ghosts: I believe there is the possibility of spirit activity in the world, and that SOME stories of spirit activity could be valid. However, I believe a large amount of descriptions of so-called "sightings" and television programs on the subject are pretty much crap, either a lie or a hallucination. Because ghosts and paranormal activity intrigue so many people it's easy to fabricate a story for attention or money.

UFOs: I believe all UFO sightings are one of these three: 1. A fabricated story 2. A hoax 3. An experimental vehicle/device created by the government/military. I believe there is life elsewhere in the universe, but it is too far to reach us or us to them, so I reject the theory of aliens on Earth. Yes, Area 51 and whatever other places the government has now do hold top secret things, but not aliens. Just a bunch of experimental aircraft and weapons, like the Aurora spy plane.

Cryptids/Unexplained Creatures: Most of what people say is 100% crap. It is interesting to entertain the idea of an unevolved ape man or something but I doubt there are Sasquatches and Yetis running around. The moth-man was an interesting story, and I'm actually on the fence about that.

Personal experiences of none of these have happened to me though. I'll believe it when I see it.
Please note: If you think I may be joking, I probably am.

I like reading paranormal reports, but I just cannot believe them. More often than not there just isn't enough proof backing up the claims (eyewitness accounts, blurry footage, and idle speculation does not a strong case make).
Shows like Finding Bigfoot and Ghosthunters are even worse; there is no way their "methods" could possibly find anything.

Jumping to conclusions and sweeping generalizations really hurt a lot of these cases, too. The term "UFO" doesn't imply anything about a phenomenon beyond it being unknown and air-born, yet any odd spec in the sky is instantly labelled "alien spacecraft filled with little gray men hellbent on abducting poor humans." And then of course the paranormal is so utterly ill-defined you can't ever disprove it, regardless of how much and how solid evidence you got it was something perfectly normal.

I'm a rather rational person most days, however I can have bouts of Nixon-esc paranoia when "differenty" things happen, like if there's odd noises.

When it comes to ghosts, ohh, I don't really believe in them. My friend says that he has a girl haunting him but he's in the UK sooo yeah. However, I live in 100 year old building so I don't want to take any chances. I mean if you watch horror movies, ghosts and demons, they only target those who piss it off.

UFO's; Never seen one, but doesn't they aren't real. I think there are aliens. Maybe not like that show uhm Ancient aliens, but yeah

I saw an elderly man walk through the living room and out through the window. Just then my cousin asked "you saw him too?" I said "yeah" and he said it looked like an old man.

Mass-hysteria is one explaination.

It's really a powerfull force, a while ago I was at a schoolcamp (as a teacher). During dinnertime one table of six students got sick and went out to puke. While I was searchiong for the cause, antoher teacher explained to me that similar cases frequently occur. One gets sick for some reason and the rest convince themselves that they are too. A symptom not of sickness, but of social conformation.

The mind is a great thing, it can bullshit itself severely. All six girls where fine ten minutes later.

That's whats commenly referred to as "The Rake"
Its a well done fake. The reasons I dont believe it are:
1. I cant understand a damn thing they are saying.
2. You ever run into an angry homeless guy in the woods tak'n a ****? I havn't, but I think he'd react like that.
3. Those particular cameras can make anyone look like that at night, so they could have just had their friend posted in the bushes up there, and had him waiting.

But there have been numurous sightings of "The Rake" but only after it popped up on a CreepyPasta site. Seriously, you like horror, go to CreepyPasta.com. Great stuff can be found there. There's also a guy on youtube who reads the best stories, MrCreepyPasta. It's all un-believable and fake, but some people believe alot of it, or base their stories off of things like that video there. check it out.

I work on Archaeological digs (amongst other things). As far as I'm concerned, 'Ghosts' exist. The definitions of Ghost, Spirit, Soul, Psyche and so on are so blurred now that the first thing you have to do is acknowledge and yet ignore all of them. Regarding Aliens, the mathematical possibility is such that they should exist as well.

Don't take offense at what I say:

* Don't do drugs. Whether you do or not is none of my business, but there are very many ppl who do recreationally- the first step to deciding whether or not you have a 'ghost' in your vicinity is to be clean.

*Don't pay attention to ANY television or storybook versions of ghosts. They aren't there to kill you, and they aren't there to come back to life and Marry you, the same way you aren't there to either kill or marry them.

*Go to your Spiritual Father/Priest analog according to your religious denomination and request for a blessing/cleansing ceremony of your denominations' choice for the 'Ghost'. 99% of the time the same ceremony will be provided for you as well.

*If you see them again and again, look at what is happening around you.I can give you plenty of ghost stories, but I would rather not tell too many cuz in my culture, this jinxes the ghost and brings them bad luck.

*Don't believe ANYONE except yourself.

*

My room was haunted by a shadow peerson for the longest time, and for all you naysayers, I dont give a damn, that **** was as real as it gets.
Shadow people can't harm you, at least, I dont think they can, but the wikipedia entry states otherwise, but they are scary as hell. I mean, just WOW.

I did a rough MS paint sketch of what the damn thing looked like, and before you say bullshit, I swear to god, this thing haunted me. And not just me, millions of people have seen them all over the world. My crude sketch from memory:

Image
A sketch from another man I found online:
Image
Pretty damn similar. Sans the spikes and horns. Point is, shadow people have become the #1 most sighted paranormal phenominon in the US. I think at least 85% of it is complete BS, because they are often described as "Being seen as moving shadows out of the corner of your eye" but the one I saw, I looked it dead in the eyes. Those eyes. Those red, soul piercing eyes...
I also couldnt move, or talk, or scream, until it whent into my ceiling. Like in that pic above, it was at the edge of my bed. I looked at it, and I made out it's head, bony structure, horns, and the shoulder spike looking things. It didnt have feet though, it just drifted up, and the bottom of its body was blurred. It was completely silent. Odd thing is, everything else was too. It's like when it was around, sound just didn't exist. But I'll never forget that thing, as long as I live.

I have a friend who experienced a shadow person in his home. He told me he prayed to Jesus as loud as he could because he was so afraid and it went away and he never saw it again. In the Orthodox Church, the 'Hallowed be thy name' prayer ("Our Father who art in Heaven, Hallowed be thy name.Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven..") is the Official prayer for self 'exorcism' against undesirable spirits. There is most likely a list of codified 'prayers/mantras/equivalent(respectfully) to use when...' in all of the older monotheistic faiths, at least.

Things along the lines of these Shadows are not uncommon here. A few (but not all) include the silence and a 'being held down' type of experience. Tho some just give out a 'waiting patiently' vibe, others seem Nightmarish. One soldier I know experienced one which held him down until he gave up.He says that as soon as he stopped resisting a voice told him something. I've had similar experiences (Not always voices, but visions, feelings - or bizarre dream-journeys (Like the Native American 'Medicine Walk' in my opinion) with no exit-places etc but the shadows have often changed to less scary (more 'unarmed') silhouettes over time and none which have gone have come back.

Well, then, here is a list of POSITIVE 'paranomal' experiences to ease your mind:

* Obi Wans description of the Force in A New Hope.(As Qui Gon says- Focus determines reality- dwelling on Old Bens words grants a feeling of shared control in an encounter with anything spooky, in my opinion).

* Getting up on time to go somewhere, getting interrupted by something like an 'annoying' visit or phone call that drags on, leaving 2 hours late and accidentally running into somebody important from the past who has been out of your life for ages, would never otherwise have been re-encountered, and turns out to be a welcome return!

*KNOWING that the next batch of Transformers have arrived in the shop *Today!!!!!!* (Don't tell me it's never happened to each of you- I won't believe you readily unless you only collect casually or have just begun). It happened to me with Armada wave 1 and TFP/RID wave 1 and still happens with the latest posted Epic Rap Battles of History on YouTube every now and then.

*Suddenly deciding to turn left instead of right down some street, and then suddenly avoiding a brawl or coming across an accident where you can help.

*Picking up the phone to call someone just when it rings and it's them!

*Opening a random book in a random bookshop to a random page, reading a paragraph of blah, and then magically being specifically equipped to stop two friends from breaking up a year later with that exact suddenly recalled blah!

*Getting the urge to start a chat with a total stranger who turns out to have significant information or loads of stuff in common with you.

*Channel surfing and having characters in different shows all have the same name.(huh? moment-happened to me more than once with News reports, then Law & Order shows & some Greys anatomy type show about plastic Surgeons, with a name & case repeated the next night on some other Crime Night type show).

*Standing around the front door in a hurry to leave, positive you forgot something & trying hard & fast to remember what it is you forgot, when the phone rings to tell you "don't rush cuz I'm running late"- and it turns out during your more casual post phone call triplecheck that you never forgot anything in the first place.

OK, I'll reply first again:

I'd be very happy if the creature was a Plesiosaur. I want to believe that it did exist but my head tells me that even if it did, it is now gone- dwindling mating territories & Old age, see.

I got told about a 'historical record' written by Caesars' troops in Africa who came across a 30 foot lizard and killed it with arrows. Again, I like to assume that this was a Dinosaur. I've never found an Archaeologist who knows about this record and have never seen or heard it mentioned anywhere outside of a Pub chat, but in their defense, there are few Archaeologists in SE Europe who specialize in pre paleolithic human periods as most Mediterranean governments preserve these finds as Heritage and don't dig deeper than that layer.

However, there are lakes ALL OVER Europe which are called 'Dragon Lakes'. There's one within 60km of where I live (Google 'Drakolimni' if you wish) . It's on top of a Mountain (called Strakka). A Historical Geologist I once spoke to about it said that the Mountain is interesting because it looks just like a Volcano plug, but is missing the Volcano. Also, it is reported to have a Glacier in it from the last Ice age, which feeds the wellsprings of the river Voidomatis in the Vikos Gorge. A Belgian survey team tried to measure the depth of the lake (altitude 2222 above Sea Level) in the early 80s, according to my Old Dad but they didn't succeed in hitting the lake bottom.I think they tried with a Helicopter & a giant reel. Obviously, there is zero sign of a Dragon there.

It's something that should never be taken away."

Interesting enough. But keep in mind that a whole lot of people didnt really believe in the giant squid until a couple years ago. Also, it is said that 85% of our earth remains un explored and un discovered. You never do know what lurks down there. New species are found every day.

Yeah, but that's hardly paranormal. It goes right back to my original point in trhis thread; once discovered / explained... You can drop the 'para-', 'crypto-' and whatever the hell you can write in front of stuff simply not commonly known.
