Crueljaw was staring at the human corpse in his huge hand after a few cycles of deliberation he decided that despite the advantages of having a human corpse for a decoy in his leg locker he really didn’t like the thing flopping and impacting against his internal framing. It’s strange these creatures are small frail yet inquisitive and for the most part dumb as posts the thought was created as a direct response to his scanning of various human broadcasts and wavelengths on his wrist visual viewer.

He placed the human corpse up on a ledge and out of the way with the reverence reserved for fellow combatants in the pit. Despite his surly demeanour he respected fellow warriors despite them being taken out by underhanded assassin tactics they still deserved respect even in death. Silently he said a prayer to primus being an ex gladiator/ pit fighter he was religious often after battles he’d often offer thanks to primus for him surviving and wishing the sparks of the departed well on their voyage to be with Primus and the allspark.

He was brought out of his internal musings by Vindicator handing over a small memory chip >>couldn’t you have sent it via burst packet transmission or are you that antiquated that you need to be giving out goodies<< Crueljaw snarled over his inter con radio. Crueljaw looked down the hall as he downloaded the data into his memory the map layout was fairly standard but didn’t show any blockages or cave ins from the incident he turned back as Vindicator and Darkfire decided to go together to reduce the chances of either him or them getting into a scrap. >>Hey before you disappear this map doesn’t take into account damage caused by the incident does it<<

Before Vindicator replied Crueljaw turned and headed off in the opposite direction his strides slow and deliberate as he wasn’t sure if Psychout was going to be joining him in heading for the command centre or not as he opened a comm line to the midget leader of the mismatched team. >>Boss I’m heading for operations the love mechs are heading for the generator to restore power<<

As Crueljaw moved off he sent via the comms

Landgrab had taken the digs about his tunneling speed in stride. It wasn't the first time that he had been accused of being a little slow, in any sense. He had simply chuckled and continued on until one of the others had decided to speed things up and utilize explosives. At least Landgrab had received extensive training in the event anyone ever said the words "fire in the hole".

Undamaged and none the worse for wear, Landgrab simply stood and watched the others as they figured out what their next step was going to be. Landgrab had no opinions on the matter one way or the other. His job was simply to assist and follow orders. In that respect, he carried his simple function out with a level of competence that few could match--most Decepticons were too concerned with advancing their own status to simply blindly follow orders of a supposed superior officer. It was likely why Shockwave had selected him once again. Landgrab possessed no such qualms.

"I don't care who I go with...but...we should probably find at least a few live humans to switch out with facsimiles. At least, if I'm understanding this internal directive from the new 'imperator', or whatever, correctly."

Crueljaw. Ever the aft of the group, but Darkfire knew his type. She tended to get along with them so long as they weren't incompetent or idiots. Crueljaw was neither - so far - so she'd tolerate him. Warriors and assassins didn't usually get along though and she tended to stay away from most. Some found assassins...cowardly simply for doing their function in the best and most efficient manner, striking from the shadows. She hated those self-righteous idiots. They never hesitated to shove their honor and their codes down her throat.

Darkfire actually ranked amongst the more honorable assassin, but she would never permit her honor to stop her from finding her mark. She could not afford to fight every opponent on the battlefield, face-to-face, hand-to-hand, though she was certainly capable of doing so. It just wasn't efficient. When you took out the commanding officer, everything else began to crumble. She couldn't afford to take any chances. She could never not choose efficiency, nor would she want to choose anything other. The ends justified the means. That was the Decepticon way. Let the Autobots have their honor.

The assassin turned her attention back to the chatter in time to catch Crueljaw's quip about dunking assassins into lava pits. Well that was certainly an idea. She smirked with amusement. However, when Jaws made a certain foolish comparison, her countenance grew cold. A step too far in the wrong direction. It made her want to punch the bodyguard in the face. Just once.

Darkfire continued to listen to the banter without adding much to it, eventually calming down. She began to sift through optical views. If more humans were scurrying around, she wanted to be aware of them as soon as possible. She considered thermal vision, but eventually dismissed it. Too much heated material still around for it to be very effective. She finally settled on a biometric readout. While listening to the banter, she picked up a few more details concerning Vindicator's past experiences down here. Fortunately, they didn't seem to be hampering his functionality down here.

As Vindicator went on to speak further about the base, Darkfire considered its current value. When they reactivated the central breakers, it might be able to function as their base at the very least. The Autobots were aware of the former base's location, so that made a complete return impossible. The pest infestation would be dealt with soon enough as well.

Vindicator's voice brought the assassin's attention back to him. She wondered briefly why he had chosen to speak instead of continue communicating via comm link, but she quickly attributed it to personal preference.

She noted Vindicator's sidelong glance and smile, offering him in return the faintest ghost of a smile.

"I guess then that leaves it to you and I Darkfire, to get this base powered back up in some core locations..." He looked back at Jaws and winked at the surly mechanoid "... If I go with Jaws, we'll end up in a scrap, and if Jaws goes with you Darkfire, I have a feeling that all that will come back of him is his head...."

"Oh, maybe a little less than that," Darkfire said smirking and looking back at Jaws.

"And if Shockwave wants facsimiles," she said to Landgrab, "consider it done. We will be sure to capture any that we come across."

The assassin turned to Vindicator, done addressing the others. As Vindicator keyed in coordinates, she considered how they were going to go about transportating captured humans until a proper place could be found. It was an unpleasant thought, carrying them around for extended periods of time.

"...Fem-con's first..."

Darkfire cast the seige master a softer gaze than her customary glare and scowl and nodded, gracefully moving in the direction indicated.

Moving forward not really bothering to note the look of pure rage etched on Darkfire’s face plate due to his earlier comments Crueljaw activated his avatar which appeared at his feet in contrast to the hulking surly mech the avatar was a tall slim lanky human wiry hair. The avatar mimicked the bot it was linked to on his optical feed Crueljaw had both his own optics feed and a second feed feeding information from his Avatar. Crueljaw had sent the avatar several dozen metres in front of him as a scout and early intervention. He thought of his current situation in human terms what he was doing was rubbing his belly and patting his head at the same time while humming the national anthem.

The decepticon was curious about various rooms his avatar went into one room as the main body walked past. The avatar saw nothing untoward in the first room striding out it broke into a sprint and sprinted past its controlling mech heading back ahead resuming its scouting. As he turned into a side corridor his avatar’s feed showed a glint of metal in the distance that wasn’t part of the structure and looked like a limb. Activating his comms he sent a brief communication to vindicator >>Vindicator how many cons where in this base when the place exploded?<< He’d expected to find dead or stasis locked cons but not this soon.

The limb was hot pink and orange not the most subtle of colours with the remains of a wing probably a seeker then thought Crueljaw as his avatar looked over the ruined corpse cause of death probably the massive roof support through the chest plate. >>I got structural damage here and a body looks like the remains of a seeker it took a roof support to the chest plate advise caution<< Crueljaw closed the comms link as he knelt down by the side of the ruined decepticon no way for a warrior to go even a seeker most decepticons had back up memory logs separate from their main ones the hulking bodyguard searched out where his fallen colleagues back up memory was stored.

Thou knowing seekers they where probably dumb enough to leave the back up with the main units Crueljaw settled on tearing the deceased con’s head from its neck and continued on his merry way. As he opened a communications link to Psychout.

>>boss I’ve got something that might shed some more light on this bases last few cycles it’s a real heads up on the situation<< as he looked at the head in his hand for some odd reason the sound of some earth musician yelling “Yeah” popped into his thoughts unbidden he dismissed the thought as he continued on his way.

Psychout had been happy to leave the team to it whilst hitching a ride on one of the Landgrabs giant cannons, after all, he was the boss and they were the workers... but he figured it was probably time to get back being the leader again.

Darkfire had proven exactly why she was such a highly valued covert operative - silent and deadly, she had performed the role she was designed for flawlessly (although possibly with a little bit too much enthusiasm, but that can never be classed as bad thing). That was where it began to seize up a bit though, neither Vindicator nor Crueljaw were outfitted for stealth, covert ops, or in fact any form of subtlety, and their commander was almost amazed they hadn't brought the volcano down on their own heads stumbling around as they have been.

Having utterly failed to keep a straight face whilst Vin and 'Jaws re-wrote the textbook definition of 'banter', Psychout almost jumped when Landgrab made his astute observation, finally something had been said that actually made sense and the small mech of many words stared at the giant mech of so few.
"I knew Shockwave sent you here for a reason 'Grabs, it's so I don't have to listen to those two idiots all the time!"

He jumped off Landgrab, engaged his flight circuits and hovered gracefully in mid-air where he could clearly see all four of his team and switched to the internal comm-system, figuring it was about time to address some of the carnage being left in their wake.
>>Darkfire, halt, HALT! Change of orders. I want you and Vindicator to switch and for you both to head to operations instead. I want details of who and what is stationed there and if this place is operational in any way I want to know about it now - numbers, tech, threat level and any indicators of individual rank. This remains a covert op so use Vindicators knowledge to best effect to find your way there, capture any ranks for duplication and pacify the rest as you both see fit. Report with urgency and secure operations when complete.

>>Crueljaw and Landgrab, you two are on power. CJ, escort Landgrab to the power couplings whilst he re-routes the generators. I want minimal power signature so only bring the vital systems back online - comms, telemetry, advanced computer systems and the facsimile growth pod circuits. Repair the other systems but leave them offline for now. Any resistance you come across is to be pacified with non-lethal force until Darkfire has confirmed that the humans command is in the operation bunker - I do not want to lose any wandering fleshlings we could clone to your giant flatfeet - although once she has checked in and we have a headcount you can do what you like with the little meatsacks.<<

>>I want regular updates and you are to maintain cover and operational silence at all times, internal comms only. Ensure you pacify any fleshling resistance with silent or non-lethal force, we are here to create more facsimiles and for that we need live subjects. well, to begin with at least. After that you can do whatever you want with them.<<

>>Finally, if I hear ANY gunshots, I will be using the culprits head cavity for a hammock, am I understood?<<

He knew he was being brusque and direct, especially after they had even come up with their own plan, but this was why he was the commander - he could see the bigger picture, and how to use the right soldiers strengths in the right situation. He had not personally had the need to draw his weapons in almost 6 thousand years, and he didn't plan on doing it now, but he hoped the fear of the unknown would keep his teams minds on the task in hand.

>>Oh, and if you fancy a bit of good news... Mal has just reported in. Sounds like the fun's about to start up on the Thantos, Shockwave's cleaning house...<<

"Well, I'll be skunked. This ain't no little military training exercise, I'll tell ya that," Abraham Dante said, as he was lead deeper in to the goings on along with Miss Svenson and Mister Porter and the military entourage they had gained along the way.

"No, Mister Dante, you're right about that," a uniformed military officer, flanked by a couple of others, said as the party from Epsilon Holdings approached. "This ain't an exercise at all."

"Well sir," Dante said, holding out his hand, "color me intrigued. Abraham Dante. Though a guy with that many medals on his coat can call me 'Abe', if'n ya want."

"Colonel Smith. James Smith. 'Jim'. You and your company come highly recommended in this department, Mister Dante," the other man said, shaking the offered hand.

"Well thank ya, sir. We do try to live up to the reputation," Dante said, following the colonel and the other officers deep in the makeshift command post that had been set up. "So whatta we got here, colonel?"

"Not a lot yet. Weird readings. Weird mineral compounds. Weird everything. So we're locking it all down until it's not weird."

"Right," Dante said, nodding absently as he half-heartedly paid attention to what the colonel was saying while simultaneously trying to get a gander at everything else they were running in here. The more clues the better.

"Your teams up for the job?" Colonel Smith asked.

"You give us the clearance and one'a them nice, fat government checks and we'll get to the bottom of it," Dante fired right back, a big Texas smile spreading on his face. There was a pause for a moment, as if the colonel seemed to have doubts, even after having made allowances for the Epsilon Group to come here. But they seemed to wash themselves away in the next moment when he spoke.

"Do it."

Dante's smile grew just a fraction wider. He looked over at Miss Svenson.

"Alpha and Beta teams cleared for entry past the secured zone. Gamma and Delta on standby. Off y'go."

Miss Svenson looked as if she had been waiting for nothing else but those words and was gone from the tent in the next instant. Dante grinned and looked back over at the colonel.

"So...'Jim Smith', huh? There must be like a thousand of you runnin' around."

And This U-Turn is....

Vindicator pressed his finger up to his tranceiver as the transmission from Crueljaw came buzzing through, questioning how many con's were left behind when the plug was pulled from the earth base. Consulting his internal database, the records of the number of Decepticons that were stationed in the base flew past on Vindicator's hud, each personnel record flashing by in a nano-second, and to Darkfire, it looked as if Vindicator's optics were glowing - where in reality, it was the briefest of moments before the siege master replied back to the picklepus bodyguard.

>>"There were almost a hundred capable decepticons stationed here, not withstanding medical staff and other base operatives..."<< he paused as the list abruptly ended >>"...I think that only fifty or so made it back to the ultrax...you know... the usual suspects!"<< he paused and looked softly at Darkfire before continuing talking to Jaws. >>"I wouldn't risk an energon goodie by hazarding a guess that you've come across some of the previous residents...."<< A dark thought crossed his optics >>"...or whats left of them..."<<

He cut the comm and opened up a private line to Darkfire, and knew that she was a seasoned warrior - an assassin of the highest calibre. But would that perpare her for seeing the shrdded carnage, and the ruined wreaks that were former decepticons? Only one way to find out.

>>"Darkfire..."<< he looked softly at the fem-con, directly into her optics >>"...There may be the remains of many decepticons here, some virtually unidentifiable due to their...."<< he paused >>"...injuries..."<< A sour look crossed his faceplate as the sound of loose rubble in the darkness gave him a shivver up his central column. An unexpected flashback of a recent event.

He felt his neural processor surge and his internal systems begin to heat up as the chilling thoughts flooded his processors.

For once in his existance, the large mech felt and knew fear.

It was only then that the incoming orders from their diminutive leader, carrying rather upset and harsh tones, did he snap out of his memory lapse. The nightmarish scenario fading back into the darkest recesses of his neural pathways.

>>Darkfire, halt, HALT! Change of orders. I want you and Vindicator to switch and for you both to head to operations instead. I want details of who and what is stationed there and if this place is operational in any way I want to know about it now - numbers, tech, threat level and any indicators of individual rank. After that you can do whatever you want with them.<<

Well he was brisk and to the point at least, but still the diminutive mechanoid did have a better handle on this than the rest of them. Sure Vindicator was part of the heavy muscle of the group - but he had an intelligence that belied his thuggish exterior, and it was that factor that made him quite an imposing figure. Howenever, orders were orders, and looking at Darkfire, giving the fem a soft smile, blatantly spoke softly, keeping his vocals low so that it was almost a whisper.

"Looks like our date has been cut short..." he gave another half smile before confirming that he had understood and received the new orders from Psychout

>>"Orders received Psychout...will find out what you need to know..."<<

Vindicator looked at Darkfire and touched her shoulder gently.

>>"Seems like we're on a detour...."<<

Base of Mount St Helens

Commander McBench studied the troops that he had placed at the entrance to the dug tunnel, and to his grim satisfaction, they were performing in their duties admirably - well as admirably as they could be! Still...they did what they were told, and they didn't question why. They followed orders like the faithful little naive pups that they were. This would work out well.

There was a chirping noise in Maximillian's belt clip, and instinctivly reaching down, the Commander pulled out a slim silver cellphone and flipped it open. The voice at the other end was a little frantic, jabbering on about items being stored purposefully in unmarked containers. Military issue weapons crates to be exact.

"You can calm down Sergeant Keys, I am fully aware of this involvement, and the details...." the voice on the other end of the phone still held an edge of frantic panic. "...You will report to the site coordinator Sergeant, those trucks will need to be fully and finally inspected by myself before they will be allowed off this site...Private Security Firm or not!"

The Commander hung up the cell phone and looked at the multi-hued touchscreen and ran his thumb over the screen in a particular fashion. The action was both alien, yet comfortably familliar to the Commander as the display changed from the US Special Forces logo, to the Emblem of the Decepticons. Another thumb gesture called up the contact card for A rather suave yet smartly dressed male. Maximillian thumbed the call feature as the contact with Alexander D'Enzo appeared on the screen.

The call connected quickly.

"Senator, Maximillian McBench...yes we have something important to discuss"

Inside the Base

Vindicator looked at the holomap projection from his arm, studying in detail the isometric view, judging which would be the best way to get to the main command room. Hlaf of the routes on the map wer already coming back as blocked or caved in. A handy thing though, using the planets native - although primitive - geo mapping satellites, in conjunction with the satnav system that his facsimile had gave to him prior to the entrance and excavation to the former base.

>>"The route options are getting limited....this - as the meatsacks would say - effing blows!"<<

“I wish he’d get his aft in gear and tell us what we’re doing before we start out” Crueljaw grumbled aloud as he stomped back to Psychout’s position. His avatar was still in step with him in his huge mitt was the head of the dead seeker that looked at him with blank optics “I totally agree with you Crueljaw he should of told you what you were doing before you moved out” Crueljaw was stimulating the pistons with mild jolts of energy mimicking talking it was like a human child play acting with a puppet. He continued jabbering to the head until he reached the entrance where he was to wait for Landgrab when he received more communications from his vertically challenged commander.

>>Finally, if I hear ANY gunshots, I will be using the culprits head cavity for a hammock, am I understood?<<

>>yeah you can’t shoot cause your guns have disintegrated through lack of use oh and by the way catch here is your extra intel from a pre eruption source<< with that said Crueljaw hurled the head through the entrance at his commander. “When you’re ready Landgrab”

Crueljaw was internally seething at his commander for taking so long on his orders to the team that the vents on his battle mask vented small flames scorching the super heating the vent edge's. His optics flaring bright white the surly bodyguard directed his anger as he opened the small compartment in his hand to allow a small Vibro knife to emerge the blade was about the same size as his index finger once it extended from the handle quite descrete and could cut through anything short of a guardian.

“Non lethal huh well what about uninjured” Crueljaw mused to himself aloud his optics finally going from his outraged white to their more usual blood red colour. While on the inside of his optics an overlay of the base schematics appeared as he planned his new route towards the generator room. “Slagging midget always got his processors shoved so far up a femme bots skid plating you need a welding torch to separate them” Crueljaw continued to growl and mutter as he transferred the projected route moved from his optic to his wrist viewer.

Placing his hand against his audio receptors as his comms gear received Vindicator's reply

>>"There were almost a hundred capable decepticons stationed here, not withstanding medical staff and other base operatives..."<< >>"...I think that only fifty or so made it back to the ultrax...you know... the usual suspects!"<< >>"I wouldn't risk an energon goodie by hazarding a guess that you've come across some of the previous residents...."<< A dark thought crossed his optics >>"...or whats left of them..."<<

Deep in thought about the message Crueljaw reviewed his internal power supplies he was running around 75% no need to worry about recharging the lack of combat was a blessing as he didn’t need his plasma sword or shotgun his solar receptors that was built into the windows of his alternate mode kept his power constant while in alternate mode. Finally he started to think clearly his temper had finally abated as he activated his comms again.

>>So we should check any of these corpses in case we got some live ones I mean it stands to reason that stasis lock would protect some of the Dumb.... i mean hardier cons that where down here?<<

Mount Doom to the Humans - Team Midget Military Base

The assassin glanced over to Vindicator as he dealt with Jaws' query, waiting for the siege master to catch up. For the briefest of moments, his optics glowed. Curious. As he busied himself with replying to CJ, Darkfire turned away and looked out into the darkness, keeping vigil and scanning the corridors for any human bio-signatures. Her attention was drawn back to Vindicator as his voice rumbled over the internal comm.

>>"Darkfire..."<< he looked softly at the fem-con, directly into her optics >>"...There may be the remains of many decepticons here, some virtually unidentifiable due to their...."<< he paused >>"...injuries..."<<

When the siege master looked into her optics, Darkfire felt a flicker of warmth steal into her cold and hardened spark. It was an utterly alien feeling to the assassin, having steeled her spark against most emotion over the millenniums. Before she had a chance whether she care for this new development, Vindicator's face soured at the sound of some crumbling rubble echoing off from the darkness. Her thoughts flicked back to her recent revelation, regarding Vindicator's past experiences with the mountain. Some wounds left deep scars.

Without her ever realizing it, a concerned expression stole over the assassin's countenance. She placed her hand on his shoulder and gave him a gentle, reassuring shake before letting her hand fall away. It was only when Psychout's voice came over the internal comm did she realize exactly what she was doing. Immediately, she reclaimed her usual cold, eloquent composure.

>>Darkfire, halt, HALT! Change of orders. I want you and Vindicator to switch and for you both to head to operations instead. I want details of who and what is stationed there and if this place is operational in any way I want to know about it now - numbers, tech, threat level and any indicators of individual rank. Darkfire turned, glancing back at the way that they had come after receiving their vertically challenged commander's new orders. Brisk and to the point, as she preferred it. Hopefully, not too much time would be lost in taking a detour. She had only suggested that she go to repair the power was because she was fairly competent with such things. Her trade required a rather expansive and varied skill set, and she had picked up more than a few things over the years. She was even fluent in the primal vernacular (otherwise known as old Cybertronian). One of her previous assignments had required a detailed knowledge of it.

>>Finally, if I hear ANY gunshots, I will be using the culprits head cavity for a hammock, am I understood?<<

Looking back to Vindicator as their diminutive commander finished with that rather amusing threat, the assassin allowed an amused smirk to grace her features. Only Psychout could make such a threat. The smirk was soon transfigured into a soft smile as Vindicator smiled at her.

"Looks like our date has been cut short..."

She could not help but smirk at the mention of their "date". Pressing a digit to her transceiver, she sent Psychout a brief acknowledgement.

>>"Understood."<<

Darkfire glanced to Vindicator when he touched her shoulder.

>>"Looks like. Hope that's not a problem for you."<< she added teasingly.

Kowalski took some time to straighten out the tie of his newly acquired suit. Nice. Classy. Fashionable. It fit rather loosely though that could not be helped. Its previous owner had not been the athletic type. The facsimile glanced over to where he had dumped the body of the bidder. That would serve for the moment. It was concealed from sight. Kowalski pulled the invitation to the auction from his pocket to find out his new name.

"Sir Reginald Figglesworth, esquire," Kowalski said in a deadpan tone. He stared down at the name for a few seconds longer before scowling.

"What kind of a name is Figglesworth?!"

Letting out a terse sigh, Kowalski turned for the car. He got in and began to drive the rest of the way to the compound. At least as Figglesworth, he would have a reasonable chance of bypassing security. He would need to implement a British accent to play out his role.

"How droll..." he hissed with an accent.

It's Human Season - Decepticon Earthbase

>>"By the way,"<< Darkfire said to Vin over a private comm, >>"Don't worry about me. I've seen more than my fair share of corpses."<<

The assassin neglected to mention that she had created many such corpses. She also neglected to mention the extent of which she was familiar with death and the dead. Her apathy to such things tended to disconcert some Decepticons. She did not mention the varied manners in which she had killed, nor the creativity involved with some kills. Darkfire glanced to the siege master with a smirk as he expressed his frustration with the route options.

>>"And from that, I can safely assume you've found the shortest route to the ops center?"<<

Vindicator looked down at the holomap as the blocked off areas were slowly filtered out as they passed them one by one, the sound of settling debris filling the cavernous hallways, drowned out only by the footfalls of the two mechanoids making their way through the blacked out base. Vindicator's optics switching from bio-metric to standard every time that he checked the holo-map, its soft blue glow gently illuminating the hallway. Enough to pick up the basic outlines of shapes, but not enough to cast any detail glow - and certainly not powerful enough to give away their location, which - so far so good - wasn't compromised in any which way.

Although how long that would be was anyone's guess...

...especially when parts of the old base were not structurally sound!

Vindicator tried relentlessly to keep his mind occupied, and away from the debris that kept on raining from the roof every so often. It was like some large earthmover was slowly rumbling back and forth as each rain of dust, and the occasional sound of sliding rubble made the seige master shivver slightly. He tried to put a brave face on it all, as he couldn't show himself as being afraid - especially in front of Darkfire.

His comm-unit crackled into life again and the large mech lifted his hand tup and pressed the receiver switch, not braking his stride, but slowing enough to answer Crueljaw's question.

>>"So we should check any of these corpses in case we got some live ones I mean it stands to reason that stasis lock would protect some of the Dumb.... I mean hardier cons that where down here?"<<

He paused to consider a reply.

>>"If you want to go corpse scraping then be my guest Jawbreaker!"<< the large mechanoid began >>"...I would say good luck in finding any that are still funcioning - or borderline..."<< he couldn't believe what he was saying either >>"...best case is to slavage what you can from whats left of the idiots that didn't get out in time - memory cores, data chips, and whilst your at it - and judging from your location - you and Landgrab are near Fulcrum.02..."<< He stopped and heard the semi interested grunt >>"...in short jawbreaker, you're near the data core for the base, and if my memory serves me correctly, there should be a data block there that will allow you store the various memory core's from whats left, and anything that's part salvagable should be lifted too...all that we can get here is a benefit for us, and not those fidgety humans..."<<

He stopped the comm as he looked back at Darkfire, her reply to his soft quip about their date being cut short made him smile some more as he looked into the red optics of the decepticon assassin, and he spoke to her with a softer tone than that of his conversation with Crueljaw.

>>"I'd rather it not cut short Lady Darkfire...."<< he paused, glancing at the floor where something crunched under his foot 'That better not be another organic lifeform....' he continued >>"...I'd rather spend more time with you if I could, and in answer to your other question my dear beautiful assassin, yes I have found a quick way into the central command center....but unfortunately..."<<

He zoomed the map into the area he spoke of, and with the assistance of the geo-mapping sat nav, it helped render the actual image of the bridging part of the base. Google maps, apparently, was a wonderful thing. Very handy too.

>>"...there seems to be a fissure in the hallway, meaning that we'll need to see what its like when we get there..."<<

He lowered the holomap and looked off to the side where the corridor that they would need to take to get to their destination. Vindicator moved towards the door, half of it closed, the other half ripped off, and split into two halves further down the corridor. There was crunching and crushing sound underfoot as the remains of the glass neon bulbs overhead was decimated under the lithe and lumbering footsteps of the two decepticons. From where they both were before moving off in Vindicator's chosen direction, the remains of a lone optic glinting in the waning light of the holomap.

In the darker recesses of the abandoned base, a set of dimly lit optics glinted, and a broken hiss emitted from the shadows.

There was the dull scrape as something dragged its way the floor.

Landgrab hadn't really known what to say at Psychout's appreciation of his observation, so he didn't say anything. He didn't absorb compliments of any form all that naturally. They were few and far between within the Decepticon ranks as it was. And when your commanding officer was a mech like Shockwave they were almost nonexistant. Or painfully hard to understand.

That, too, suited Landgrab just fine. He'd just as soon complete his objective and move on to another one with no one really being the wiser.

To that end, he had lumbered off after Crueljaw--as directed--and found himself to one of the power relay stations inside. As far as he knew it was just "one of". It could just as well be the "only".

As he attempted to patch himself in, he ran in to a myriad of roadblocks. So many that he had to pause.

"Wait...what am I doing, again? Psychout wants power back in the old 'Con base? Is that what he wanted?" Landgrab asked, his questions genuine. He thought about it some more as he analyzed the systems. "That's.....that's just not gonna happen. This place is a shell."

The Decepticon looked at the ground, already disappointed in himself.

"Sorry..."

Crueljaw made it to the power generator room beaten to it by Landgrab leaning against the bulkhead wall sounds emanated from within. Landgrab could be heard moving around inside checking relay’s and muttering about the system being deader than a mech who’d been fed to a pet Scraplet.

Crueljaw listened to the reply from Vindicator his larger colleague had that hint of what lesser mechs called fear in the tone of his voice . Crueljaw called it a luxury that couldn’t be afforded by cons on combat or grey ops thou it did have some surprising effects sometimes driving timid mechs into the most uncontrollable bezerkers rage out of desperation. His optics dimmed as he contemplated the information “fulcrum.02 the data core for the base” he muttered as he added it to the list of things to do.

Reopening the link to Vindicator he spoke again >>Remember Vinny everyone is out to get you even the dead look at the amount of times screamer has been presumed dead and popped back up to annoy Megatron or whoever is in charge. He’s like the decepticon equivalent of Grimlock but with a better vocabulary<<

Closing the link Crueljaw opened a separate link to Landgrab >>Hey Landgrab I’ll be back here shortly the data core is nearby I’m gonna go see if its intact I’ll keep the link open if you need my help<< Crueljaw turned to leave but stopped he could of sworn he heard movement metal grinding against metal with a noise that could rival dirge’s engine note.

Crueljaw dismissed it Vinny had mentioned that there was no survivors so baring humans moving equipment the place should be empty. He peered into the darkness his optics flicking visual modes to make sure he was alone his FoF locator on his optical feed map was showing Vinny and D-fire a fair way off to his left somewhere circling around so it wasn’t them. He shrugged causing his huge shoulders to bob as he turned and walked off his train of thought was set on checking the route to the Data core as he walked off something In the darkness stirred.

The whif of energon had wafted past an offline corpse shortly after a pair of tired optics started to come back online dimly at first getting brighter by the second the cracked optic lens focused sharply. Like a puppet on a string the creature rose to a standing position armour plating hanging from various parts of its body. The shambolic corpse staggered down the corridor its leg dragging behind the walking off-liner found the hot pink seeker that Crueljaw had torn the head off its ruined neck stump was leaking energon the shambolic creature’s optics widened in glee before diving on the corpse like a vulture feeding on a corpse or a vampire of human myth. It’s ruined face rose from the corpse its optics burning white as energon dripped from the corner of its mouth but was soon sucked back into the famished mech. Uttering its first words in vorns the voice grating like rusty nails on a metal plate due to its degraded vocal processors “E-e-e-en-en-energonnnn”

Psychout was concentrating on the radio chatter outside the volcano, it would appear that they may have visitors shortly, so they were running out of time. He transmitted a few stalling orders to the security personnel but knew they couldn't hold these guys up for long.

Landgrabs whining didn't help matters. "Then FIND a way. Establish an alternative power solution or I will take you offline and wire you in as a power source myself. Crueljaw can attest that you wouldn't be the first. You have 10 minutes to radio me back with an answer I want to hear, understood?" his tone of voice was meticulously clear that this was not an idle threat.

He turned his attention back to the humans at the base. Most of the Facsimle recalls were still a few hours away yet, but he had scanned a bunch if datafiles about the the various visitors these bases get, their interests and their businesses. If he could Establish a controlling aspect here, ownership of these fledgling should be pretty simple, but keeping to the protocols wouldn't be easy. Luckily, he still had one ace to play, bit that had to wait for now.

"Vindicator? Have you and Darkfire found anything yet? We're about to get visitors..."

Landgrab looked over at Crueljaw briefly as he mentioned what he was going to do, nodded, and then quickly returned his attention to his work. What was he going to do? Argue? Maybe other Decepticons would have. It would have taken much more severe circumstances than this to prompt such a reaction from Landgrab. The worst that could happen would be a few fleshies wandering this way--necessitating a transformation and a delay in his work. But he didn't even see any reason to worry about that for the time being. The fleshbags seemed to be content working their own areas, with only the occasional military scout or security patrol wandering outside of the boundaries where the higher ranked meatsacks had stashed themselves away.

Psychout's transmission, however, had prompted an entirely different reaction from the habitually obedient Decepticon. He could already feel his circuits beginning to freeze. He was typically happy to comply with any request his superiors made of him. After all, it would bring Megatron's vision that much closer to success if he did. But normally the requests made of him were orders that he could achieve.

This base...it had been obliterated. Whatever battle had taken place here had been one of monumental proportions. The fallout had decimated everything. That was likely why the humans' curiosity in this site really only seemed to be piqued and there wasn't a full-scale military base being suddenly constructed on top of it.

Maybe once they dug a little deeper....

In any event, the shell that remained was nothing akin to the base that had once been burrowed within this volcanic site. All that being true, Landgrab still didn't want to find himself being sacrificed in some sort of effort to bring the base back online, futile though it would ultimately be. Even Vector Sigma couldn't get this place running again. Not without the Constructicons starting from scratch and giving the legendary super-processor something to work with.

And so, his transmission back to Psychout contained nothing of his doubts regarding the diminutive mech's current expectations. Not until he could get back to Shockwave. Then he would be a little bit more forthcoming about his findings.

>>"Understood, Psychout. I'll keep working."<<

For whatever good that does. Just find some fleshbags to facsimilize and let's get the slag out of here......

Darkfire felt a modicum of disgust at being termed as "Lady" Darkfire. The pet name did not appeal to her and suited her less, but...she would allow to pass for now. They did have more pressing matters to attend to. Although, the assassin devoutly hoped that Vindicator would not become more creative with his little pet names. They would probably need to have a "chat" if he did. As it was, the assassin simply leaned over to get a better view of the holomap.

>>"Interesting. Still, it shouldn't be a problem. And watch your step, ya big lug. Wouldn't want to step on any other organics,"<< Darkfire added with a hint of a derisive smile.

The assassin followed Vindicator toward the door, frowning as she saw its condition. Several red warning flags went up in the assassin's mind. Immediately put on guard, she examined the intact door and the fragments. The mountain's eruption could have blasted the door down the hallway, but that wouldn't account for the negligible damage to the other door. Why only one? Something did not add up.

Darkfire continued into the inky darkness ahead cautiously, cringing at every crunch and crack of the shattered glass on the floor. The sound was absolutely deafening in the otherwise silent base. The assassin moved to the side of the hall, where the glass shards were less concentrated to avoid making more noise than necessary. She tuned his audio receptors for any signs on threats lurking within the darkness.

Perhaps she was being overtly paranoid, but it never paid to be caught unprepared and unaware. Besides, any humans in this sector might be alerted to their presence by the noise. Darkfire would begin to feel better after they had passed the glass. It would be easier to hunt when every other step was not accompanied by a tinkle of crushed glass. Silence was the sound of a predator.

>>"Vindicator, I don't like this. I think something went through that door. Avoid stepping on the glass if you can. If there is something, we do not want to announce our presence. We can't have vermin hearing us either,"<< she warned.

Receiving Psychout's transmission, Darkfire deliberated whether or not she should mention her suspicions. Best to be thorough. She opened up a communique to Psychout.

>>"We've almost reached it, but there is something that concerns me. One of the doors on the path back seemed torn down. It could have simply been an effect of the pressure build-up from the eruption, but I have my suspicions that we are not alone in here."<<

The door erupted inwards flying from its runners and hitting the deck with a resounding boom through the now vacated doorway stepped the surly bodyguard of the tiny Psychout his red optics taking stock of the situation at hand something had been behind the door holding it closed. Crueljaw had wondered why the door hadn’t opened when he unlocked it using some of his onboard fuel to power it. All he could see leaking out from behind the fallen door was fluid dribbling out he wasn’t sure what it was and he wasn’t concerned with it. His major concern was getting the computer core back online and the facsimile chambers prepped.

Crueljaw stepped forward just before he reached the console a scanner beam shot forth from above and started to scan his form. Though not the most tactful decepticon ever made in his vast experience it was less painful to stand and allow the scanner to finish rather than attempting to shut it down. There was a chirp and a computer voice announced “Operative: Crueljaw, Function: Close Protection access granted” the bodyguard would of smiled if able as the computer core started to power up however something reflected in the blank screen in front of him caused him to turn rapidly his hand outstretched connected with something that vanished back out the room quicker than it entered.

>>Crueljaw to team midget be aware we got interlopers something just got a face full of my fist don’t think it was the midget. In other news the computer core is active. Stay Frosty out there<< Crueljaw was regretting his jibe about spark eaters and the corpses walking cause whatever he’d just launched out of the computer core room was starting to stir again but Crueljaw started his work to locate the facsimile pods and get them prepped.

>>Crueljaw to team midget be aware we got interlopers something just got a face full of my fist don’t think it was the midget. In other news the computer core is active. Stay Frosty out there<<

Fan-tastic, Darkfire groaned internally. She did indeed utterly loathe when her hunches proved to be correct. Something was down here with them. Lurking within the darkness. This could prove to be a problem. Crueljaw was a competant warrior, of that she has no doubts. He would only face complications if whatever it was that was down here took him by surprise.

Glancing over to Vindicator, she assessed that their group was likely the safest out of the three. Vin was a tried and true warrior, and she was an assassin, knowing the art of the hunt like the back of her actuator. Psychout, however, was diminutive little Decepticon, and Landgrab, Darkfire did not know. Perhaps a reallocation of resources would serve them best. She opened up a private comm link to Vindicator.

>>"Vin, perhaps you should head back. If Psychout gets attacked, he will have only Landgrab as back-up. I will go on ahead and secure the command center."<<

Without another word, the assassin increased her pace, sidestepping as much of the broken glass underfoot as she could. She knew not if Vindicator would do as she had requested or persist in accompanying her in some misguided attempt at chivalry. Finally, Darkfire cleared the shards of glass, much to her relief. She continued on in silence. The sooner they were finished with their operations in this husk of a base, the better. As much as the assassin did not care for being exposed out in the open, she cared even less for potentially being trapped underground.

It wasn't long before Darkfire came across the fissure that Vindicator had mentioned before. It was a massive crack in the floor of the base. Magma bubbled a few meters below the floor line, illuminating the dark space with an angry, violent, red glow. She could feel the heat rising up in waves off of the molten earth. Suffice to say, she did not enjoy the proximity of the magma to the hallway. It seemed stable enough for now though. Kicking on her thrusters, Darkfire easily soared over the gap, landing delicately on the other side.

Before too long the doors to the command center were within sight - and standing open. She detected several biometric signatures within. The humans had penetrated the base this deeply had they? How...annoying. They would have to be dealt with before they could report their findings to any other fleshlings. Fortunately, the assassin had the perfect solution that solved the security breach and the requirements of their mission: Facsimiles.

Kneeling, Darkfire materialized her holomatter avatar once more to approach and investigate the human activities. This time, however, she kept her own senses primed in case that something down here approached her. Controlling her avatar would be marginally harder without her full concentration on its actions, but she would have to manage. She couldn't afford to be taken by surprise. The assassin decided to report her progress to the others.

>>"Darkfire here. I've reached the command center, but the humans are crawling all over it. I'm going to infiltrate and subdue them. They'll make fine facsimiles. How goes the preparation of the pods?"<<

The fingers of Crueljaw floated across the keyboard of the computer core he knew the basics of prepping the facsimile chamber. The lines of code floated up the screen in front of him he had one optic on the blank screen to his right using it as a rear view mirror. He didn’t like surprises and he wasn’t sure what had tried to jump him earlier he found the facsimile protocols the bodyguard started the chambers they had their own power supplies.

>>"Darkfire here. I've reached the command center, but the humans are crawling all over it. I'm going to infiltrate and subdue them. They'll make fine facsimiles. How goes the preparation of the pods?"<<

Crueljaw’s ministrations to the computer core was going well he was finishing off sorting the various gestation programs when Darkfires message came through.

>>The pods are starting up I’m just bringing the bio organic vats back online should be a few breems and ready for useDarkfire What the sla......<<<

Crueljaw’s reply was cut short by something jumping on his shoulder the bulky Decepticon grabbed whatever it was on his shoulder and ploughed it into the ground. He then stepped on its back keeping it pinned however sounds of more movement forced Crueljaw to swing around and find more heading his way. “Oh you’ve got to be yanking my crank”

>>I got friends here might take slightly longer than anticipated to get the vats online<< just before his link closed the distinctive ‘Whoosh’ of his plasma blade igniting sounded across the link as its ruby glow illuminated the once fallen now walking offline the glint of madness in their optics.

The officers trekked quickly down the large cavern corridors, flashlights in tow.

"The energy spike came from this direction!"

"Yeah, I saw. We're not stupid."

"I'm just sayin'!"

It looks like it's..."

"Whoa..."

"...who left that parked there?"

The trio of officers came upon the oversized piece of equipment. It looked mobile. And it looked vaguely like something the Army might have produced. Two them started to climb aboard while the third continued to shine his flashlight in various crevices.

"Where's the keys?"

"I dunno. There's probably just a 'on' button somewhere."

As one of the officers began to fiddle around on the dashboard control panel, a scanning beam activated and ran itself over the officer.

"Hey, what the hell...?"

"Eh, guess you three'll do, for starters," the machine said, before locking the two officers in place and reaching out to seize the third. The headlamps on the front end of the vehicle kicked on and the bulky Decepticon rumbled off down the corridor.

Team Midget - They're touching our stuff...

One good thing came out of Crueljaw's transmission. The knowledge that whatever was hunting them was still stalking its original target. That was, if there was only one of them. She needed to take care of these humans quickly. Landgrab's own transmission soon followed Crueljaw's. Excellent. The excavator was proving himself. All the better. Hopefully, they would be off of this dirtball soon.

Darkfire continued forward as her avatar, scouting out the human encampment. There weren't too many of them patrolling surprisingly. She supposed that they assumed that whatever had been in here was dead. The assassin's avatar overtook two guards and incapacitated them easily. She moved forward to where a work area with a few pitched tents was located. Lights circled the perimeter, filling the outer darkness with light. How these humans did so love their light.

The avatar approached stealthily from behind a tent, watching the shadows of the humans inside cast on the canvas as well as the few humans still standing about outside of the tents. The guards outside would have to be dealt with first. Fortunately, two of them were standing adjacent to each other talking about something of little import.

“When do you think the docs will be done with this place?”

“Don’t know. Don’t care. As long as I’m paid, I’m good.”

“I don’t like it here. Docs been tinkering with some controls or whatever on that platform up there and who knows what else they’ve found with since we got to this place.”

“Not our business. We’re just the help.”

“But-“

Crack. Thud. Thud.

The avatar looked down at the two bodies, scowling. That had been a little more force than she had intended. They probably had fractured skulls. She’d have to be gentler. It was easy to forget how fragile these humans could be. The avatar grabbed the bodies to begin dragging them into the darkness.

“What? Who are you? What are you doing with them?!”

The avatar’s head snapped back up to see that one of the scientists had left the tent and more were coming out to investigate the commotion. Darkfire’s actual fist clenched into a tight ball with frustration. Her avatar dropped the bodies and leaped forward in an animalistic pounce, landing heavily on the scientist that had discovered her, grabbing one standing behind him and throwing him over her shoulder into a tent.

Stomping down on the human’s skull, the avatar sprang into the tent where she’d thrown the other scientist, dealing with the tent’s occupants decisively before stepping out to witness the sole conscious scientist sprinting away into the darkness. Fortunately for Darkfire, he ran down the hall where the assassin was actually located. The avatar dissipated into nothingness as Darkfire returned completely to herself just in time to snatch up the human. He screamed in abject terror until the assassin flicked him once on his head, knocking him out.

Darkfire let out a terse woosh of air from her intakes. Chiding herself for being so careless, Darkfire stored the human that she had captured and moved on to the human encampment, collecting the incapacitated humans. From what she had overheard, the humans had been meddling with cybertronians technology. Who knew what damage they had wreaked? Whatever was prowling about the base now had probably been released by these idiotic humans.

Crushing the lights under her foot, Darkfire moved over to the main control console, destroying the human scaffolding with a sweep of her hand. She tried to get the console to activate, but her efforts seemed to be in vain. No matter what she did, there was no reaction. This place was a dead husk. They should place charges at critical points in the remaining structure and simply finish what the eruption started. The human facsimiles could report that it had been a natural instability that caused the collapse. She opened up a communique to the others.

>>”I’ve captured the humans. I have more than enough. Some of them are disposable, but others may actually prove useful. It gets us a foot in the door at the very least and the facsimiles can take it from that point. The bad news is that this place is dead. Nothing is responding anymore and if it had been before, the humans have thoroughly ruined it.”<<

A corroding fist whistled past Crueljaw’s cranium as he lent to the side of the incoming fist a second bouncing off his shoulder but that only served to increase the force with which Crueljaw’s other hand within which rested the flaming plasma sword. The blade continued on its journey through the two walker’s a third was resisting his grip but a savage twist of his wrist permanently putting it offline. Crueljaw turned throwing the corpse into the hallway he had time to finish the start up sequence for the chambers. In the facsimile room the chambers started to power up various screens started to churn data down the screens. The chambers themselves where beginning to fill with a green liquid from within the base of the chambers. As Darkfires radio message came through asking about their status's.

>>Facsimile chambers are starting up just add DNA will meet you there, now if your finished asking if I’m finished I got someone to finish off here<<

The last of the walkers was the one that had originally jumped him its jaw hanging loosely from its chin. Crueljaw rocked back on his heels extinguishing his plasma blade then replacing it within his wrist locker he then sprinted forward arms pumping the bodyguard twisted and put his shoulder forward as it slammed into the last walker he continued forward the walker scratching helplessly at his armour as the wall loomed. The sound of the impact was like rolling thunder echoing through the hallways his opponent was completely crushed. The hulking bodyguard stepped away from the impact zone and looked at the fairly large impact zone a crushed walker was left embedded and a smear on his shoulder. His messing with the Computer core done the bodyguard left satisfied his body was having no lingering effects from an extended CR stay

Landgrab's bulky formed arrived where Crueljaw's signal was emanating from. Transforming and securing the three human military officers he had captured around his waist almost like something of a belt, he tentatively approached the other Decepticon.

These scant few humans knew they existed now, but it was hardly going to to matter. They would be replaced by Decepticon technology and probably never heard from again. He couldn't say for sure, but he didn't expect Shockwave would jeopardize any of their longstanding infiltration protocols for these little fleshbags.

"Fresh DNA," Landgrab said, blocking the only practical exit out of this area and dumping the humans on to the floor. "Don't know how you got power to this thing, but you better make it fast, 'cause it might go at any astrosecond. We need to get these guys facsimilized before their little runty friends know they're gone."

Darkfire traversed the treacherous corridors, making her way to Crueljaw's location with her horde of humans for facsimilizing. In actuality, the assassin did not possess many humans, but she had no place large enough to store them all efficiently. It irritated her. Darkfire checked her progress with some mental landmarks - the fissure, the broken door, the hall of glass - and soon, she realized with satisfaction that she was near to the computer core.

The assassin silently prowled the corridor and approached the computer core carefully. She peered inside to see that the situation was normal with both Crueljaw and Landgrab standing about the facsimile pods.

"Hey," she said as she stood behind Landgrab - who was blocking the entrance- more to let them know that she was there than anything else. The last thing she wanted was to end up with a hole through her because she had taken her comrades by surprise. It has happened to her once before. She did not intend to relive that experience.

"Here are the humans I've collected. Let's get them all facsimilized. We should probably send in a report to Shockwave of our progress after that," she stated plainly to both of her fellow Decepticons, "And Landgrab, move out of the way."

"Hey," another voice had said, alerting Landgrab to the fact that another Decepticon was in close proximity and that he should watch his step, left he unintentionally injure one of his compatriots. Not that he cared about inflicting the injury, but more the consequences that would be coming once someone higher in the command chain read the mission report. Someone like Shockwave.

"You got some too, eh? Good. That should make the chief give us a 'satisfactory' report," Landgrab said, before moving his bulkish form out of Darkfire's path. "Oh....uh, right. Sure thing."

As he moved out of the way, he felt a tingling in his chest cavity as he finished entering their current progress in to the mission log and sent it up to the Thanatos. The automated message that was returned went to not only him but everyone on the team.

//Infiltration objective accomplished. Return to assigned operating vessel immediately. Secure contents in laboratory and reinstate facsimile replacements within 5.7 breems.//

Landgrab looked to the others, not exactly sure of what to make of the message, despite how clear it seemed to be.

"So, um, just like that?"

Crueljaw looked at the sample specimens “we stick em in the chambers right cause I know how to set these things up and get the programming but actually using them above my pay grade” the bulky decepticon moved to the facsimile chambers and opened the receiving bays “I’m thinking they go here scraplet’s and femmes” He swung around and looked at the console he started tapping away utilising long unused subroutines to set up the link to the command ship for them to program the facsimiles. “The links to the ship are complete the Colossal Processors up on the ships can set these things up cause I dunno how it works” just as he finished talking Landgrab relayed an automatic message.

//Infiltration objective accomplished. Return to assigned operating vessel immediately. Secure contents in laboratory and reinstate facsimile replacements within 5.7 breems.//

Crueljaw raised an optic ridge at the reply he looked at Landgrab “so can you put the doors back on this room I kinda broke it when I came in can’t secure a room with no doors and keep the chambers cooking” Crueljaw moved over to Darkfire kicking one of his previous playmates out the way “so what’s with the automated message you must have sources up there is Shockers planning summit?” Crueljaw turned from Darkfire and looked at Landgrab his optic narrowed as his fists clentched as he had a horrible thought “do you know more than your letting on big rig?”
